Kathrina’s Cafe Roma III

It’s literally in the building next to mine. PERIOD!
I like their egg and potato tacos. I ordered their American breakfast and both times they left something out (which is annoying esp when I didn’t realize it till I got back to my building so now I check first)
For lunch, I have had their gyros, ½ sandwich and soup and their a alfredo. The gyro was ok. And their ½ sandwich was a standard turkey sandwich that anyone can make at home but their vegetable soup was super greasy and hardly edible. The alfredo was made of spiral noodles which surprised me. But it wasn’t anything special, just mediocre.
They are a bit pricy but convenience costs sometimes. The dining area is bland and normally I just get it to go.
Overall, it’s not the best but since it’s so close, I will prob be back :(

Kathrina’s is basically a greasy spoon type of place, located in the basement of an office building. Everything about it is probably what you’d expect.
Kathrina’s food is not bad. It’ll definitely do in a pinch, and some of it (patty melt) is pretty good (if not good for you).
That’s the up side. There are a lot of down sides.
We’ll start with the trivial: there is no ambience to speak of:
The kitchen and dining area are all in one space, separated by a counter; but the dining room, dwarfed by the kitchen, is typically further cramped by merchandise stands, an intermittently broken beverage refrigerator, sandwich cooler, and ATM machine, and pallets of unstocked dry goods.
The lights are harsh compact fluorescents, the televisions constantly show soap operas, the paint is peeling off the ceiling fans.
The service is unbearably slow. Last week I ordered (again, in a pinch) two sausage and cheese breakfast tacos (serviceable food, again) but I waited over ten minutes for them to be made when there were three people in the kitchen and only one customer. To add insult to injury, they were over $ 2 each; after taxes etc the bill was over $ 4.50 — just for 2 breakfast tacos.
More than once when I have gotten my food, the person taking my money has been wearing food service gloves — I can’t say I’ve seen them go back to cooking with the same gloves, but that gives me pause.
Synopsis: If you still consider getting food from Kathrina’s after reading this, be sure to call ahead and wait ten minutes before going down there. it’s not really a fun place to stand around and wait.
