Excellent food for traditional Chinese restaurant. I love that the food is not overly sauced or overly salted or sweetened. You can actually taste all the ingredients which are surprisingly fresh. Sweet and sour chicken came delivered with sauce on the side, what an awesome idea, it wasn’t a soggy mess most other Chinese places deliver. The soups were great too, not overly salted and clean tasting.

Gross gross gross… food has no flavor at all. The egg drop soup was thick and slimy… over priced food that’s not even tasty

General Tso, was a great leader of the Qing Dynasty in the 1800s. He came from humble roots of the Hunan Province, and was highly revered for his all-around greatness. He was known to love chicken… fast forward to the year 2016, and one too many Netflix documentaries later, and here I am, in the great USA eating General Tso’s chicken from Hunan Emperor. Globalization, I tell ya… Anyways…on with the food, if I could give 3.5 stars, I would, but seeing as I can’t, the food has earned a solid 3 stars. I ordered the General Tso’s combo(chicken entrée, rice, soup and eggroll) Sunday night for dinner. First, the general’s chicken was covered in a generous amount of perfectly spicy Tso’s sauce, and the chicken was high quality white meat. The Hot & Sour soup, was spot on, and definitely one of the better ones I’ve had in this part of town. I ordered the steamed rice(the ever so slightly healthier option), seeing as I’ve watched«Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead» one too many times, I thought I would be doing my body good. The eggroll was hot & fresh but nothing to call home about. For the price you can’t beat the value this place offers, the combo set me back about $ 9 and some change. Not only was I satisfied, but I was also left with some left overs, and I can really eat! I called in for carry-out and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. I’m a very punctual person, and walked in exactly 10 minutes later, at that moment I saw the owner bringing the food from the kitchen. No additional waiting, or worry that my food had been sitting for too long. Couldn’t have had a better experience. I think I’ve found my new Chinese carry-out restaurant.

We had Kung Po and General Tso chicken plates. Delicious! And plenty of leftovers. BYOB. Atmosphere not as elegant as the old location in Lantern Lane center, but food and service just as good. Family owned and operated. Now that our kids are right around the corner, we’ll be seeing more of you!

I have been ordering To-Go from this place for years. I usually order the food to my job which is located in the westchase district. The food is always good and the pricing for the food is good as well. The timing in which I receive the food is always on time from the time frame given by them.

First time ordering I got the kung pao chicken. It had no flavor, no spice and a slimy texture. Do not recommend this place at all!

We went on a Sunday after Church. My wife ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan, which was ok. I ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork, which wasn’t very good. There was very little pork and I would go so far to say that half the dish was nothing but batter. The very little meat that was in the dish was tasteless. Also it looks like the cook cut up raw bell peppers, onions, and carrots and threw them into the dish without even frying them. I would have to say that the best part of the meal was the fried rice as it was actually quite tasty. The service was good and the prices reasonable, but if I were to visit again, I would not order any of their Sweet & Sour meals.

This place is really nasty! We ordered from here for the first time tonight and will NEVER do it again. We ordered: Orange Chicken with a side of fried rice, chicken lo mein, steamed pork dumplings, wonton soup, hot and sour soup, and egg rolls. The wonton soup was alright but I’ve definitely had better flavor in the broth from other places. The only way to describe the hot and sour soup is as «gooey» which is exactly as disturbing as it sounds! The orange chicken had decent flavor but the meat itself was chewy. The dumplings were ok. The lo mein was VERY greasy… like a layer of grease at the bottom of the dish greasy. They also just used spaghetti noodles instead of the usual thicker lo mein noodle. The egg rolls weren’t actually egg rolls but spring rolls which were so grease soaked they were soggy and the white paper bag they were delivered in was transparent from grease. And finally, they forgot our rice so when we unloaded the food and noticed, we called and asked them to bring it. The lady on the phone argued with my boyfriend then said it would be another 45 minutes. An hour later, the rice showed up. It was ok but was basically just flavored brown rice with eggs… no veggies! Overall… — Poor customer service — GREASY food(even by Chinese food standards) — Nasty good in general We will never order from here again! *Update* If the above isn’t enough to deter you, I was sick all night after eating from this place. Like, Pepto on the nightstand sick all night! Bleckh!

The food is amazing. I just moved to this area, and I was looking for a place that delivered. I’m always kind of skeptical about Chinese food because I’ve had some lousy experiences. This place delivered within 45 minutes. The steamed dumplings are to die for. I would recommend this place for sure.

Been getting take out from here for 15 years. They used to be in Lantern Lane on Memorial. I’ve only eaten IN a couple times. This is a take out place. I NEVER get delivery. The right things to get are House Special Fried Rice, Sesame Chicken, Tso’s Chicken, Hunan Beef, Orange Beef, Pork w garlic sauce, Moo-Shu Pork, BBQ Ribs, Spring Roll, Egg Rolls, Po-Po platter and Soups. I usually tip 10% on take out and they give me free food next time. If you order late, what are they going to do with all that soup but pour it out? Its already made.

USETHESAUCE! FORTHELOVEOFGOD, USETHESAUCE, MAN! We ordered online. Delivery took like an hour… but it was Friday night, so that’s probably not bad. We got dumplings, General Tso’s, sesame shrimp, and what I think was crab rangoon but might have been just cheese wontons. We started eating and things seemed bland, but then we noticed the assortment of sauces that were in the bottom of the bag. Slightly sour rangoon? Awesome dipped in sweet&sour. Bland General Tso’s…until we mixed in the chili sauce. Dumplings were way better after a dunk on the soy blend. They send sauces. USETHEM!

I had the chicken broccoli lunch combo with spring roll, hot and sour soup, and steamed rice. I ordered online. With a 10% discount that I got for ordering online, it came to $ 6.15. I thought this was a little cheap, but the quality and portion sizes did not seem to know this. They are competing with Panda Express down the street. Everything was good. The rice was perfect. I received lots of chicken and plenty of broccoli(I know, I’m weird, but I need to get my veggie fix). The soup was excellent. They packaged it well and provided all the condiments(mustard, soy, sweat & sour sauces). The lady at front who rang me up and had my order ready-to-go was friendly. I subbed the white rice for fried rice online and they did the order correctly. The dining room look very nice for a small place. There was a couple of older ladies eating at a table(this was 3 pm). Very nice inside… quiet, pleasant. This looked more like a dine in place, but they do delivery and pick up too. This place is on Westheimer between Jeanetta and Fondren on the south side of the street.

This is one of the places, that have a lot of potential, however their service is the worst I ever had in the city of Houston. Maybe the waitres was having a bad day And that’s understandable, but every restaurant knows that clients like to come back to places where their service is good. It is very unpleasant, and very uncomfortable when the waitres throw the silver wear and the plate to you in the table and throw you the check to your wife. The check was wrong, they were charging us more, with not description of our order. I asked why and they simple grabed their calculator and changed it. My wife will never come back to this place ever in her life. Personally, I believe their food was fairly ok, but as a business owner I will recommend new management or new training for people. I can really tell that they don’t like their jobs, so will lose many clients like us.

Wow! This place gets a lot of positive reviews. Sadly, I really don’t know why. I ordered lunch takeout just last week. It’s true that the décor and such is a bit dated, but that shouldn’t really affect the food. So, I get my sweet and sour chicken, fried rice and wonton soup home… and I am stoked! Seriously, I love me a good sweet and sour chicken — especially if I am hungover(which I was), and it isn’t all that hard to make it good. The chicken was really really dry. I would like to comment that they used white breast meat, though and that’s a huge plus. The fried rice was completely bland and the wonton soup had a large amount of salty chicken stock. The soup was actually a yellow color. I’m really not sure what went wrong, but with so many Chinese choices in the area, I’m going to have to say… Hunan Emperor is not going on my speed dial.

DON’T GETTHEMANGOCHICKEN! They’ve been at their new location for about a year. A lot of the earlier reviewers have said that their interior was old, but they have updated their interior since moving here. Their new interior is actually very nice. It was pretty empty during our stay. Not sure how they survive. Their lunch menu is comparable to General Tsos. Their menu is written in English, so it seems like they cater to Americans, even though some of their menu options are classic Chinese foods. I’m not sure who their target clientele is. Don’t get the mango chicken. Probably the worst Chinese dish I’ve ever had. It was drenched in sauce and way too sweet. The steamed fish, fried rice, and garlic eggplant were surprisingly good. The appetizer of eggroll and crabpuff was too greasy. Prices are good. The service from the Latino server was pretty good. He kept our drinks refilled and was very patient. The owner was distant.
