You get what you pay for. You need customize your own food for content and flavors. Then the chef will cook and you can watch. If you are good at selecting right meat, vegetables and sauces, you can make your meal really delicious. If you are not, good luck:)

Went to Genghis super hungry last night. It was my first time going so I wasn’t really familiar on what to do so my friend walked me through it. You can either purchase a small, medium, or large bowl. I thought a medium was too small and frankly, I think it’s a little expensive. I brought my large bowl to cafeteria looking set up. You choose your protein(there’s a good variety from sausage and Cajun chicken to shrimp and fish) and veggies. They mixed our stuff together and the service sucked

I come here only once a year for my free birthday bowl. If you sign up for Khan’s Klub you get emailed a coupon for a free bowl every year on your birthday! Each time I try to perfect my construction of the bowl to fit in as much food as possible. Here are my secrets! — Start with the veggies, that way, your protein will just weigh it down. My favorite is spinach as it does not take up a lot of room. –Make an outer ring around the perimeter of the bowl with the green/yellow squash pieces placed vertically to create a rim that will allow you to stack more food. An alternative vegetable that can be used to accomplish«the ring» is the snow peas. –Reinforce the ring and make the height of it taller by placing pepperonis around the rim behind the vegetable rim. — Place flimsier items that would fall off more easily in the base of the bowl: scallops, shrimp, peas, cubed ham. –Place raw items on top like bacon, beef, chicken, and pork as they are stickier and easier to stack on top of each other to make your pile as tall as possible. –Always select an egg. It doesn’t actually have to fit into the bowl for them to add it to your stir fry. You can even try getting away with 2+ eggs and multiples sauces if they let you. Odds are the guys at the grill won’t make you put that stuff back.

Filled my bowl with gains. Ate the gains. Gains were absorbed. Hallelujah and Amen. Oh yeah, a server looked like The Weeknd. He could probably make some money on the side as an impersonator. Would definitely tip him extra if he was my server. All in all, great experience. Great service. Great protein. And an almost celebrity sighting.

You get what you pay for and some. This is a great place for people. doimg a low carb diet like myself. You can make an entire bowl of protein and low carb veggies and top them off with a couple eggs. Protein includes chicken, steak tips, shaved steak, pork, shrimp, bacon, sausage, imitation crab, white fish, scallops and a few others. All seem to always be very fresh. For the vegetables they have about 30 options. I love the chopped onions, red and green bell peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, green beans, and chives. Top this off with a few eggs on the side and tell them no starch when you hand it over to the cooks and you are good to go on a low carb feast. I like that they got rid of the servers at this location and they give you a pager to let you know when your food is ready. It was always hit or miss for good service and no I can just do it all. I also think I can build a bowl with more food in the medium sized bowl than I can the large size bowl. I’ve tried this several times and I’m fairly confident. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

Staff wasn’t friendly and was made to feel unwelcome, rushed and in the way as the staff was cleaning while open. It was very dirty and didn’t seem sanitary. Ended up not even taking more than two bites of my food because some of the meat was still raw.

My first experience of this place was terrible. This time around it was much better. At some places they give you a veg bowl and a meat bowl. I like that here it is just one larger bowl. For the meatatarian such as myself this is great. I get some veg, but I still with the steak and seafood. I went during lunch and it was super busy, but the line moved quickly. Meat, vegetables, and sauces all were good and fresh. It took them about 7 minutes from when I dropped off my bowl until it was ready and I very, pleasantly surprised at how well cooked it was. the beef and scallops were both cooked really well. Like many places this place turns out much better meals when they have high turnover. Lunch is the time to go. For dinner the service very not concerned and food has been sitting for a quite a while.

Ok, where do I start… This place has completely gone down hill. First their prices have gone up & the service has gone down. I use to love coming here but this will be my final visit. When I first came in, they literally had one employee(bar tender) to help because the other one(which I’ll assume is a manager) was too busy sitting in a booth watching tv. After the women helps me she directs me to the line to build my one $ 11.50 bowl with no drink(use to be $ 8). As I’m walking down the line I start seeing Texas size gnats in the air. I already paid for my food & I tell myself the heat will kill the germs they’re spreading so I continue. I grab some meat & when I get to the shrimp, I see that it’s slimy & very grey with pink specks. I’m not a shrimp expert but I know that’s not a good thing. I ask the one employee about the shrimp & she says«oh, I’m not sure» –_-, so I skip the shrimp & keep going. I get to the sauce & there’s only 4 sauces out of 12 available. I ask the 1 employee about the sauce & she say, «oh we won’t have those until tomorrow morning.» I just chuckle & keep going. WHY didn’t she tell me this when I first bought my bowl? I have no idea. So I let them cook my food & generally cooks are pretty good with stir fry dishes, well that was a relief. The food was just«ok». ANYWAYS, spare yourself the disappointment. Do not eat here, it’s not the same!

I wish I could give this place five stars. I love the concept and I really think with some improvement the place would be awesome. The cleanliness of the restaurant is a big concern for me. The bar where you go pick to make your bowl can be horrendous. We are talking onions in mushroom compartments, runny and soggy chicken and shrimp in with beef tips. The cutlery and cups could be better too. I’d also like to mention that there’s are gnats everywhere… Gross! The employees seem to have a negative attitude and the quality of the food is definitely not there. Parking is another issue. It seems that people who frequent this spot don’t know how to park in between two lines. Overall, I am extremely disappointed with this chain.

This Genghis is ok, very different from the Genghis I normally go to on 290. I love going to Genghis because I’m a vegetarian and they have lots of veggie options for creating your own meal. This location is very small and you pay for your food before you create it. I’ve been here twice and the atmosphere is just not the same as the one on 290, the service isn’t bad but I’m just use to more interaction/smiles from the employees. They only have 1 line to go through which is a nuisance when there are a lot of people in line. The self serve food bar was very clean but for some reason it feels like they don’t carry the same full line up of items as the 290 location.

Here is how this place works… First you pick which of the bowl sizes you would like, what kind of rice/pasta you want added to your bowl and then… Well, you walk to the food station and mix and match meat/fish/veggies/fruits… BEWARE, they have a smaller cup for sauces for a reason… if you pour your sauce directly un the bowl beforehand, the result could end up being catastrophic!!! The food is partially cooked without sauces that are added half through the process, preventing the whole thing to be burnt to a crisp. Once you are done filling the bowl as far as it is possible(trust me. i have seen some bowls that looked more like a jienga tower), off you go to the grilling section. If you have food allergies make sure to notify the server RIGHT as you walk through the door, the griller will have to make sure there are no food residues on your grill. Once your bowl is being grilled, feel free to go back to your table or start filling a few tiny cups with sesame seeds, nuts and such to sprinkle on your food later… Once the order is up, your server will find your table(marked on the little card you filled out at the beginning) and. there you go!!! Though i truly think the concept is amazing, i question the freshness of the ingredients(i have seen some of the fish/meat cuts being refilled whilst still being frozen solid… others had a funky smell which told me they had overextended their welcoming in the food station and should have been thrown away rather than being still served. There is no chance for you to be served by the same server or getting the perfect grilling master for the turnover of the staff is probably only a month or so. The servers do appear quite nice and helpfull, maybe a little bit to quick refilling your almost full drinks with an excessive ammount of ice-per-drink ratio… but, being in TX it’s this or half hot drinks…

The food is okay. I think it is overpriced for what you get. I ordered the chef’s recommendation beef and broccoli bowl rather than make my own. The beef was borderline white chicken. It was so dry and over cooked. My husband got the medium sized make your own. It was okay as well, nothing amazing. I think I was just turned off by the whole atmosphere. I just don’t get the concept, they had franchise looking signs up at the pick your protein/veggie area but then they had a bar area and then they had decorations of tribal flags, gongs, and spears. It’s just trying to be too many things. So I don’t think I will be back, I would rather go to Kublai Khan instead.

This place is perfect for the low carb lifestyle. Great selections of meat and seafood. Great options also for vegans and gluten free friends. However– I’m not sure what is going on to cause the bug problems. Both locations at Bunker Hill and Greenway have a serious gnat or fruit fly problem. A little bit disarming for a dining establishment. FIXIT.

Genghis Grill has a pretty interesting concept. You pay for a small, medium, or a large bowl. Afterwards, you place a variety of meats and vegetables inside for the cooks to prepare alongside a selection of starch. The quality of the food was pretty questionable since some of the raw meats like the chicken breast were still half frozen. When I received my bowl, half the meats were burnt, which wasn’t very appetizing at all. In addition, the food portions are pretty small for the price. Although the service at Genghis is pretty good, the food is pretty lackluster. I will probably not be coming back in the future.

This place is awful! The service is amazingly bad, the food is questionable(there was an odor lingering around the raw meats.) and the utensils were dirty. I used to come to Genghis Grill because it was good food for a reasonable price bug after this experience I can’t imagine returning to this location.

We’ve been coming here for a little while. We’ve always had great service in the past. Used to that you were seated and then a waiter came by for your drink order. You chose between building a bowl or order from menu. If you chose to build your own bowl then you proceeded to the line where you chose your proteins and vegetables and finally up to the counter where you chose your carb and you handed it off to cook. By the time you were back at your table your drinks and/or appetizer if you had one were waiting for you. This time when we came in we noticed things were a little different. This time the counter was in a different place and you paid up front and now we have a third choice of a small bowl that was extremely extremely small. The prices may have gone up to I think the small bowl is now the price of a regular bowl and a regular bowl is all the price of a large bowl. So now you tell them what you want to drink at the cash register where there used to be your hostess stand now you have to pay and go through the line pick your proteins and your veggies or sauce and your whatnots from the line give it to the cook give the cook a card to get your drink and then you have to go find your drink find your table. There’s no more table service and they give you a little vibrator to take to your table so that you can know when to come back for your food. Before you were given a number and your food was brought to you at your table. I’m not sure I really like this new way of getting food at Genghis Grill. I like the old way better it just made for a less than personal experience. When I go to a restaurant I like to be served and I not to do all the work myself. I guess I could save on tip money next time I go I didn’t realize that I wasn’t going to get any service. Now in all fairness there was a lady who came by and refilled my drink one time and that was nice but she was the only person walking around no more servers to wait on you at this place. Food is still good it’s just a big change for the place and not a good one. I hope not all Genghis Grill have changed to this format. There is one on I 10 and Gessner that offers a cabbage choice for the carb and this one does not have that offer it, so maybe they’re different I hope. We’ll see next time I go to the other location.

I was staying in the area and stopped by to grab a beer. I sat at the bar and ordered some edamame and an Octoberfest beer on tap. Bartender made sure to upsell the 20oz for only a dollar more. I’ll take it! Edamame was ok, it had a bit too much salt and pepper for me but it wasn’t horrible. Service was good. Con: I watched them«make» the brownie dessert item while sitting at the bar. Its a refrigerated brownie, microwaved and topped with fudge. I was not impressed.

I am blown away by the concept of what Genghis Grill is. You walk in and choose either a small, medium, or large mixing bowl. After that, you go through a cafeteria style walkway and add all the veggies and meats you would like. You can add as much meat as you want as long as it fits in your bowl, build a mountain if ya want! That’s what I did. You also get to add all sorts of different seasonings to your meal. Mix it up if ya want. Once your done picking out all that stuff you’re going to eat, you drop your bowl off at the counter and someone there will ask you to choose a starch. I picked out the spiral pasta. They hand you a card with a number and the food will be sent to your table within a few minutes. This place is excellent for a quick bite before hitting the gym, IMO. Perfect place for gym junkies, and meat heads to fuel up and get carbs and lots of protein! Unfortunately, the staff is here just sucks. Like really, they suck. I’ve come here quite a few times and it has not improved. The employees are awkward, not personable whatsoever. I was acknowledged maybe twice throughout my visit. The waiter did not ask how my meal was. He walked by, attempted to leave my check, drops it on the floor, picks it up, and places it on my table. Doesn’t say a word to me. The employees do have time to clump up and chat about life problems though, that’s nice. NOT. I still left the tip, but it wasn’t deserved. Overall, the food is great. However, management needs to get off their ass and do some managing.
