Disappointing! Ordered a Bud Light and Red Wine to start, but they don’t have a liquor licence anymore. Not sure why and they didn’t give an explanation. Ordered Vietnamese Spring Rolls and they were didn’t have them anymore or were out of the rice paper, again not sure. Had Hunan Shrimp and Shrimp and Scallop in Red Bean sauce which both tasted like they were made in the same wok. Decent amount of shrimp and veggies, just the sauce for both dishes was almost identical and could barely taste any difference at all. Pork fried rice was just sad, only way to put it. No veggies and it was like they took the rice and threw some soy sauce in the wok to cook the rice. Weirdest fried rice I have ever had. Overall a completely horrible dining experience.

I’ve reviewed this place before. Service continues to be excellent but of course the place is nearly empty on a Monday an hour after peak lunch. I tried the Hunan Chicken lunch special. It’s still typical Ameri-Chinese but not as good this time — too much soupy sauce and vegetables a bit overcooked. The egg drop soup was hot and tasty on a cold winter day. My search for a 4-star Chinese«go-to» place in Energy Corridor and Green Trails area continues though…

For quick takeout lunch, Café Taipei is a decent option with the standard selection of Americanized Chinese staples. I chose the Hunan chicken, as they use only white meat, which came heavily sauced and accompanied a medley of veggies and brown rice. The hot and sour soup was average, and the egg roll was a bit on the small side, but for a lunch, I suppose the sizes were adequate. Prices are reasonable($ 7 — $ 8) for the area.

Consistency is key. Their food is consistently delicious no matter what I eat. I dine in, pick up and also do delivery. This is the only Chinese Food place I eat at now. You need to try the appetizer bbq spare ribs. They are amazing.

You can disregard any positive reviews of this restaurant. I thought they might have changed ownership or gotten new management because EVERYTHINGISPOORQUALITYNOW. This was one of my favorite chinese restaurants on the west side and I just placed my usual order and I am so disappointed. I called the restaurant to confirm my suspicions, and yes, it’s not the same people working here. They are using frozen everything, the rice seems like it was pacjaged two days ago, the chicken and broccoli sauce is coagulated and they use cheap spaghetti noodles for their lo mein.

I was craving bad Chinese food that was near my workplace and I found Café Taipei. I normally order the general tso, and this time was no different. I decided to pick up, even though they do offer delivery for a fee. I wanted to go inside so I could see how busy they were during lunch time and their cleanliness. I was surprised at how quiet it was at lunchtime, but I guess on a weekday behind several subdivisions I can’t expect much. I was 10 minutes early for my 12:30pm pick up so I paid first and waited for my food. I ended up checking emails on my phone and before I knew it, it was 12:40pm and I was being handed my food. I was not happy that I had to wait 20 minutes for my food that I actually ordered at 12:10pm. So I get my food and I got everything I ordered, which was a general tso chicken with steamed rice(but you can also get fried rice or brown rice), egg drop soup, and a crab Rangoon. The soup was what you would expect, and the crab Rangoon was pretty good. It was a good proportion of filling and fried dough. I like the fact that the general tso is actually spicy when I asked for spicy. The flavor was good, and everything was hot when served. The only thing I didn’t like was the chicken was drenched in sauce. I’m pretty sure if the chicken wasn’t already dead it could have drowned in the amount of sauce I had. Overall experience, I would not mind ordering from them again but I will definitely order way ahead of time to get it when i want it.

I have been coming here for 8 years and would recommend this place to anyone but after yesterday’s lunch, Shrimp and Chicken in Garlic Sauce, I am totally thrown off. Shrimp was stinky and old. You lost longtime customer.

I had take out for the first time here last night. Lady at the front desk was friendly, both on the phone and in person. Food was ready quickly and the dinner combination was good. Wished the general tso’s came with broccoli as well. Decent sized portions. Would eat here again.

Arriving recently from Shanghai and settle in here, we wanted to try how good the Chiense food is. Café Taipei is on our way home, so we tried it. What good Chiense food. The butterfly shrimps at starter. Big, tasty a very good start. The Hunan dish was not as spicy as Hunan Food is, but very well prepared and very tasty. The shrimp and scallop with black beans was awesome. We picked up a menue and next time I will try the Gungpao. It is not easy to get a good one. Really looking forward to it.

The food was fresh and hot. Nothing like traditional Chinese food. The service was fast and decent.

I randomly came upon this place, after driving looking f for an apartment in the area. I saw the great reviews and gave it a try. I love the set up of the place and the great customer service. I also like the wonton soup. I rice is a little bland, but everything else we as great. I love that it is family owned.

Not a huge fan of Chinese food but my husband is. So I have been on the search for ‘acceptable’ chinese food that I can agree to have with my husband once in a while when he has a hankering. Ive tried a few restaurants around the energy corridor and stumbled upon Café Taipei… Much thanks to my Unilocalers. WOWZA! I can only speak for the orange beef but YUM-O! Not only is it acceptable, but it is all I ever order from here. My hubby is a Kung pao/Gen Tso kinda man, which he enjoys from here as well but Café Taipei has made him a believer in their Orange Beef too. I especially love the pieces of orange peel in their tangy sweet sauce. Their brown rice, i know this is a weird comment, but it is the best I have had around as well. I need to try more stuff from here but that one dish just keeps calling me back and I cant get enough!

Decent food, and speedy service. I’ve only been for lunch, but the best things on the menu are the orange chicken and garlic chicken. The convenient Energy Corridor location is the main driver for going here. I have been many times, and undoubtedly will go many times more.

I love coming here for lunch with coworkers. The lunch special is a good deal and the food is a lot fresher than most Chinese restaurants. I’ve enjoyed everything I have ordered here.

Just picked up some«linner» at Café Tapei. I ordered their House Lo Mein. Very tasty! No complaints here. The price is great considering how much you receive. I definitely have enough to last me another meal or two.

Decent food that’s not really special, the customer service was bad. We were the only people in the restaurant literally! I was very disappointed in this place after reading the reviews. But now I can honestly say don’t waste your money or time.

We tried this place for the first time for dinner tonight. We were very happy with the choice. The eggrolls were delicious — crisp and not greasy. The veggie lo mein was also light and not greasy. The general tso chicken was also really tasty. The service was friendly and prompt — the waitress stopped by frequently to refill water and check on us. We will definitely come back!

I am shocked this place only has threes stars. Café Taipei embodies everything that makes family owned restaurants great. This restaurant was the first Asian restaurant on Eldridge. Before the chains and subpar meals Café Taipei was bustling with patrons. It saddens me to see restaurants like Kim Son come in and take what used to be a strong customer base. The service is always excellent with the waiter constantly coming around to check if you need a refill. The lady that works the front has literally remembered me ever since high school. After living in a different city for four years she still remembers my face and ask me how things are going. While I’ve worked my way through the menu over the years some of my favorite dishes are the sesame chicken, orange chicken and garlic chicken. The lunch and dinner specials come with rice, eggroll or crab Rangoon and soup. Portions are smaller during lunch but during dinner its typically enough for two meals. The biggest thing is that the food is consistently fresh and delicious.

This restaurant is the best and only Chinese restaurant I go to. It is family owned and all their food is made with high quality ingredients. Try the General Tso

Seemed like just typical Chinese food. The lunch menu was a kind of boring… pretty much pick your one meat… sour and sour pork or cashew chicken or beef and broccoli. The perk is that you get your choice of rice(wite, brown or fried), of soup, and an egg roll. I thought the food was a a little too salty. Overall average if you’re just looking for decently-priced, standard Chinese food.
