This place is officially closed and gone, but I have wanted to say something about it for a while now… I visited this store 5 times total since last summer. One time someone greeted me upon entering. A few other times I was ignored until I made my way to the back to browse, and once the gal working ignored me the whole time! and i was the only one in the store, haha. No one ever asked if they could help me or tried to speak to me, other than a «hi».(I wondered if their bosses/business owners had any clue how little of a shit their employees gave, suuuurely these people have no idea). These girls were always looking down at their phones or wandering off to the back. HI– LOSSPREVENTION? I’m very independent, but really? I felt sort of panicked for whoever was paying the bills in that place. terrible customer service, and the two times i made a purchase, not even a «thank you». more recently, I went in two weeks ago to look for some tokyomilk lotion(i give it the two stars because they do carry great merch, i always liked their products) and noticed it was starting to clear out in there. I asked the employee if they were closing and she goes«yeah haha» …i don’t see how its funny, but it DOES make sense that they closed the doors, with employees like that! Business owner(s): if you have another location, send in a secret shopper now and then… i really really hope you do not have this staff-quality issue elsewhere.

I went in after seeing the Indie Ella dress in the window. I am looking for a vacation wardrobe and this shop looked like it would have some promising pieces. There were definitely other items I would have wanted and that included items from the bath and body brands. They have lovely brands like Tokyo Milk and it’s sister line Lollia. Unfortunately, as I walked in the door one of the two sales girls looked right at me and quickly away. I browsed the beauty items for a few moments and saw the second sales girl who also ignored me. Since I think shop assistants should greet their clients and I was willfully ignored, no sale, no recommendations. Next!

Visit Blue Elephant. Fall in love with Blue Elephant. Notice that Blue Elephant does not exist on Unilocal. MAKEBLUEELEPHANTEXISTON UnilocalINORDERTOSPREADTHEGOSPELTRUTHOFBADASSBOUTIQUESINRICEVILLAGE. Yall need to know about this place. Forget all those cookie cutter boutiques along Rice and University that seem catered towards uppity Houstonians who are seemingly obsessed with chevron pattern tunics at $ 60+ a pop. It’s about time someone like Blue Elephant came along to shake up the scene. It’s new, at less than a few months old, but you’d never know it based on how much incredible, fashionable attitude this place radiates by the second. Maybe it’s the latest colorful trendy maxi dresses and chiffon blouses up front and center. Maybe it’s the Austinite memorabilia sitting lovingly on a rhinestone-lined vanity table(who can resist coasters made from Austin skyline and SoCo graffiti photos?). Or the love projected in vintage photos of Houstonian landmarks like the historical Riveroaks theater. Maybe it’s the sassy red-headed owner who hails from Austin and blasts Jay-Z’s «Holy Grail» in the middle of a dainty, feminine boutique in Rice Village because why the hell not. Maybe it’s all of these things that tell me Blue Elephant is chock full of style, personality, FUN attitude, and a beautiful reverence of one’s hometown. Even better is the fact that their dress prices aren’t out to break your bank. I FINALLY found a perfect maxi dress for less than $ 50. In an independent boutique! In rice village! To be fair, some products were a little on the stiff side(that Austin Soco coaster was $ 12BYITSELF) but you know what? That’s a small price to pay for a gorgeous coaster-photo of SoCo’s famous«I love you so much» graffiti sold by one of the most charming and conversational boutique owners I’ve ever met. Truly, a one of kind boutique.
