I have been coming here since 2001. Used to always get my haircut by Joe (rip) and I now go to Cindy. She’s great. Spends a lot of time on my cut and has a great attention to detail. She might double, triple and quadruple check her work, basically, she takes her time and does a thorough job every time. I have been very happy with Avalon Barber shop and recommend them all the time

This is a real gem. Just good haircuts. Like the old days. Friendly and competent barbers with everything you used to expect from a full service barber shop. Also, they just put up their new website with more information.

I live in Chicago, but I only get my hair cut at Avalon barber. I always ask for Carolina as she is a superb professional designer who sticks with the traditional tools. She uses the scissors and comb as natural tools of her craft. I have never left with a unsatisfactory cut. I will return as soon as I am in back in town.
Would recommend if you want a clean and smooth cut.

All I want is a hair cut and a traditional shave! I don’t need a facial, don’t need a neck massage, no cigars, beer or personal TVs… none of that nonsense! I just need an awesome haircut by a professional barber in a place where former Presidents frequent and all at a reasonable price. Avalon delivers.
BOTTOM LINE: Great place for an old school hair cut… if you want other nonsense services, this is not the place.

I’ve been in Houston for a year and have finally found a barber that I will keep returning to. Carolina listened to what I was looking for in a haircut and delivered a fine haircut. I can stop looking now — thanks to Carolina and Rudy at Avalon!

Went in for a haircut and a shave. Haircut was great but worst shave of my life. The woman that did the shave clearly didn’t know what she was doing (which is dangerous when she has a razor). The shave took over an hour and she seriously injured me. My face was completely red and hurt like hell. Also she missed several spots. Worst shave of my life. Shame though because I liked the place and my haircut.

It’s a classic Barber Shop and they do a great job. It’s been there forever in this River Oaks location — lots of execs, judges, attorneys, and docs get their haircuts there. A Houston institution. Worth every dollar spent. They take their time and make sure not only you get a good haircut, but you have a good customer experience. Nothing good is cheap and nothing cheap is good. The price is very reasonalbe for the service and experience provided. If you want a quick cheap haircut you’re probably in the wrong area of town.

I have been going to Avalon for my hair cut for about 6 months now. It is ALWAYS a pleasant experience. My barber, Carolina, is the best. Not only is she a master barber, but also a great stylist as well. As for the previous review about it being over priced at $ 21? Are you kidding?
I will be going back regularly!

It was a good cut, I just thought it was kind of pricey at $ 21. Also kind of slow. I had to be somewhere at the top of the hour so when I mentioned this to my barber at around 40 past he did finish up pretty quick. There was one guy who had been sitting in his chair before I got there still getting a cut when I left. I think it was a good haircut, but I don’t see the difference between a haircut from here, Raymond’s, or Doug and Don’s, except that the latter two charge $ 10 or so for a cut and this place charges $ 21.
