Came here once and grabbed a drink with tapioca and honestly, it was horrible. Tasted like powdered milk and the tapioca was like sticky taffy. Never returned and doubt if I ever will with all the other options around.

Shrimp spring rolls and peanut(?) sauce were awful. I ate half a roll and threw the other piece and a half away. Tofu/vegetarian sandwich was really good. Since they put me in the mood to nitpick they can de-stem the cilantro for a better sandwich. I might go again but I won’t order spring rolls. I’d like to give a 2.5 rating if I could.

I have only ordered sandwiches here. The chicken and meatball and pork were all very good. However the service here is horrible. The man at the counter is extremely rude. And I was a regular here for a good 4 to 5 months. Never a «Hello, how are you?» when you walk in. Never an «Enjoy» or «Thanks for your business.» The sandwiches were so good I kept coming back. The final straw was when I came in one day and was ignored for about 15 minutes before I was asked what I wanted to order. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was a busy day. Maybe they had a rough personal thing going on. But continuously bad service is unacceptable. Another tip. Do not order on the phone. It’s impossible.

Bubble tea is made of powder so didn’t order. Ordered the Bo luc lac — they put sate(the spicy red sauce) on it which shouldn’t be there. It was chewy and didn’t taste very good. Ordered the banh mi sandwich and they microwaved the beef — ugh. The bread was fresh but I didn’t like the taste of the dressing/seasoning. Ordered the spring rolls — they used tiny full shrimps and it was loosely rolled so everything would fall out. Basically consider going here to wanting Mexican food and settling for Taco Bell. The restaurant itself didn’t look clean and looked worn down.

I love thier banh mi, they’re very authentic and taste good. Although the price is a little higher than other places; but i always got good amount of stuffing inside my banh mi so i guess it’s worthy. My most favorite are special banh mi and the customized Vietnamese ham & egg one(banh mi cha trung). Also, i would recommend they should offer a real printed and designed menu rather than just bland white paper taped together.

3rd time is a charm? :) we went there today for an early lunch. I decided to try other dishes. So we got a variety of food and different kinds of banh mi. 3 banh mi, 1 Com thit nuong, 1 mi hoanh thanh, 1 chicken wings for $ 43 bucks. I got the rice plate for my twin girls and I did eat a bite of their food though. The meat was very moist and flavored well. The portion size was shockingly plentiful. Thumbs up since the twins shared the dish. :) the fried spicy chicken wings my boo ordered was pretty tasty. The wings are cooked in butter/margarine it had a sweet and slightly salty buttery taste with my guess a hint of fish sauce they actually give a small amount of vermicelli on the plate.(I love to cook so this is my guess of what it taste like) I did not care much for the mi hoanh thanh(Vietnamese won ton) the broth was sweet and seemed to have a lot of msg in it. The«hoanh thanh» was NOT the kind your get at Tan Tan or most places on Belaire. They were like the frozen dumplings(pot stickers). The banh mi is usually very good the bread is a little bit on the hard/crisp side plenty of meat and fresh veggies. The jalapeño is HOT but I like it! Dac biet is my favorite it has a combination of all the cold deli style meats. It had a small amount of chicken and BBQ pork inside which was nice! The xi mai banh mi(Vietnamese meatball) was moist and had good flavor. Banh mi Com thit nuong Wings Mi Hoanh thanh

When I want a bahn mi sandwich close to home, this is the only place I go. Good bread, good quality meat and lots of vegetables. The perfect sandwich for only $ 3.99 and only $ 1.00 more to add extra meat. With the extra meat, this sandwich becomes huge. A very satisfying meal.

This place is so good! Their banh mi is so friggin’ good. I come here about once a week since it’s near my job. They changed the price of banh mi to $ 4.99 or $ 3.99(something like that)(*tear) now but it’s not going to stop me from buying it. It fills me up and I still think it’s a cheap meal. Their fried rice is banging! I love the little kick of spice it has. It’s flavorful and it’s a big portion. They are really fast paced as well. I order this place for my bosses and their friends all the time. I’d get more than 10 things and their done within 10 – 15 minutes. This area barely has Vietnamese restaurants, so I’d recommend this place out of all the other places nearby. I normally don’t sit in and eat there though. Everything I get, I order as togo. The strip it’s on freaks me out just a lot, so I don’t want to sit in and eat. But if you’re going to order togo! I definitely recommend anyone reading this to eat here.

I was born and raised in Houston and have not lived there now for 6 years. The Banh Mi from 529 Smoothie and Sandwich is the singlemost thing I miss about my hometown. It is an atrocity that this place only has 8 reviews. I hav1e yet to have a Vietnamese pork sandwich as good as this one(and they’re cheap!)

The best Vietnamese sandwiches that I have had in years! I highly recommend the #1 Charcoal broiled Pork Sandwich for $ 3.50. It tastes the way I remember it is supposed to taste! Awesome!

I ordered for takeout as my son was sceamingggg(screech!). I ordered the pork sandwich and the combo sandwich. The butter was smooth and a bit creamy, the meat had a wonderful lite saltiness, just the right amount and best yet, full of flavors. The bread was hard, old or overly toasted. Overall, food was good. I will return to try the other dishes they have on the menu. They serve rice too.

the food here is ok. i normally just go here to grab a sandwich. but the man that owns this place is RUDE!!! i asked him if he could heat my sandwich with the chicken too because the last time i got a sandwich, my meat was cold. he said he couldn’t do that cause its supposed to be cold! Okay, that makes no sense but anyway… how hard is it to heat the sandwich with the meat in it? the lady that was making my sandwich heard my request and did it for me. He’s just plain lazy and rude! Update from my last visit. I only order a shredded chicken sandwich from here and it’s 3.50 on the menu. Well I guess the ower didn’t think I would notice but tried to charge me 4.30 for it. BEWARE! So shady!

529 smoothie and sandwich is in a shopping center on 529 heading out of town. I tried to get here yesterday using my gps and it led me in the wrong way. Apple and google maps. The food was find but I will not be going back. I found the bugs crawling the walls a bit unsettling while I was eating. It makes me wonder what the kitchen in the back looks like. I can tell that it’s pretty dark back there. Most of the lights almost dark. Anyway, I came here for the Bahn Mi and it was quite good. It was much like ones I’ve had before but with bigger chunks of vegetables. Not good enough to overlook the bugs. The fried Vietnamese egg rolls are light and crispy with a light porky flavor that I really liked. The sweet chili sauce it came with was nice and light, and complemented the savory pork flavor with a light sweetness. Overall I did like the food.

This is a solid small mom ‘n pop joint on the northwest side of Houston. They offer banh mi, noodle soups, and rice plates. A previous reviewer stated that there was a rude male cashier, and while it may sound like he’s coming off rude, I can assure you that he’s just a loud person by nature, so it isn’t intentional. My go-tos here are the banh mis. The ga nuong(chargrilled chicken)($ 3.50), thit nuong(chargrilled pork)($ 3.50), and dac biet(a little bit of every type of meat)($ 4.50) have all been good. They don’t over toast their bread here, and the veggies inside are always fresh. Add a fried egg(+$ 1) for a bit more flavor to your sandwich and you’ll have yourself a cheap lunch for under $ 5. Their prices have increased by $ 1 since the last time I’ve been, but they’ve got to adapt to the economical changes as well. Aside from the drink cooler offerings of sodas, water, vietnamese drinks such as soy bean milk, coconut juice, and the like, they also have a smoothies and slushies with or without tapioca. I haven’t tried any so I can’t comment. This is a good place to go to on the northwest side to get your banh mi fix.

Rarely does the food live up to a place’s name. Here, «Best Vietnamese Sandwiches» doesn’t disappoint. My husband and I have tried loads of different places for bahn mi sandwiches and their charcoal broiled pork sandwiches are fantastic. The bread is delicious — perfect crispy baguette and very filling. The pork is tender and full of flavor. It’s topped with fresh chile peppers, cucumber, and cilantro. For $ 3, you can’t beat it. We haven’t had anything else on the menu but they have quite a selection actually. If their other stuff is anything like their sandwiches, I’m definitely looking forward to giving their other stuff a try.

Well, usually this place is amazing, with the girl cashier. But a guy cashier extremely rude. I usually get an extra bowl with 1 order of phở, which the girl cashier does, but when the guy is here he wouldn’t give us another bowl, I mean it’s just an extra bowl, I’m not asking you to divide the phở, I can do that.
