I’m still going to leave Hoagies at 4 stars but I had a burger there for lunch recently and it was damn good. As expected, the price was also very reasonable. So I can somewhat confirm breakfast and lunch is tasty for the price.

Hoagie’s is a busy café in downtown Hopkins. Their food is ok and the prices cannot be beat for diner style food. My problem with this place is that the servers are so robotic and I often feel like the experience is diminished by that. Their breakfast food is pretty standard… nothing special in my mind except for the cheap eats aspect of it. It gets crazy busy there at times, but unlike my family members, I do not think the wait is worth it. But their cult-like following puts me in in the minority, I guess. It is not bad, just not awesome.

Small-town-feel right in the cities… Our wait was long(not complaining; it was packed in there and we expected a wait) but there’s so much to look at we didn’t even mind. Downtown Hopkins is hosting a fair amount of renovations, but the majority of it is pretty quaint and antique-y, and this place fits right in: an old box TV on the wall playing a show about outer space, the familiar light wood and brass lighting of the 60’s, and TONS of kitschy vintage and antique signs on the walls: we spent a good 20 minutes just looking around reading them all. The waitress was kind and attentive, constantly topping off our coffee & making conversation with us which was appreciated. But certainly the best thing about this place is the prices! My order came out to just about $ 5 here, but it likely would have cost $ 15 at Perkins or a similar breakfast place: 2HUGE pancakes, 4 slices of toast, 2 eggs over-easy, and bottomless coffee. Portion sizes were great; I could have had 1 pancake, 1 egg, and no toast, and still left stuffed. Not to mention my bill would have been about $ 3 flat! Insane… I love it. **Lastly I’ll mention, they only take cash or check! Not to worry though, they have an ATM in the back.** Definitely stop in sometime; breakfast is served all day!

A great little ‘greasy spoon’ diner in Hopkins on Mainstreet. Breakfast is served all day and is really good, especially considering the price. Breakfast with coffee and juice is under $ 10! Lunch isn’t more than $ 10 with a soda, and you can’t get outta subway under $ 10 these days. Great little spot. Lots of locals and regulars, always busy.

Love this place! Feels like you’re at a diner from the 60s in the middle of Iowa. Has the small town feel and service. The food is extremely cheap, in fact, I’d be surprised if they changed their prices since the 60s. This doesn’t poorly reflect the quality of food though. I’ve eaten here a handful of times and always left full and satisfied.

It’s good to know the good ol’ American diner is alive and well in Hopkins. Hoagie’s is a step back in time to the family restaurants of old, where everyone in town can be seen with a pot of coffee, served in ages old white mugs… and you can feel the grease of the spoon in the air. This place is cash only, but it’s so inexpensive you can walk in with $ 10 in your pocket and eat comfortably. It’s standard American fare for breakfast: eggs, hashbrowns, meat, pancakes… served up by friendly wait staff who appear to be high school or college kids who live in town. Hopkins has that type of charm, with a vibrant old time downtown with antique stores, a brewery, a record store, and plenty of street parking. If you’re looking for a hearty breakfast, cheap, and delicious, make sure to eat here.

What breakfast at a diner should be. Great, friendly service, solid coffee, amazing food(they poach their eggs perfectly). I love this place. Cash Only

I had a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and toast. The omelet was 4 eggs. IMHO the proportions were all wrong. Too much egg, very little ham and cheese. The eggs in an omelet should be there just to keep the ham and cheese wrapped up. It shouldn’t be the main feature of the omelet. They should either decrease the eggs or add more meat.

If you are searching for a fancy, 15 dollar breakfast move along. If you are a person who just wants delicious, tasteful, and a good old fashioned breakfast this is your place. Best pancakes I’ve found in the cities hands down. Eggs are great, hash browns aren’t fake, and the atmosphere is low key and enjoyable. Finally found a great breakfast place!

Small town diner, excellent service and awesome food. I’ve had breakfast and lunch there and the portions are great and everything is homemade. If you have lunch, get the homemade french fries! The prices are unbeatable. Check it out if you’re in Hopkins. The place could use a face lift in terms of décor on the inside, perhaps that will happen once construction in the area is complete.

This restaurant was quite impressive. Don’t let the rustic knick knacks deter you. I will definitely come back to this restaurant. The food was good and modestly priced.

Diner on Main Street in Hopkins. Menu is limited to typical breakfast items and burgers/sandwiches. Service was friendly. Eggs, bacon and pancakes were all tasty and good size portions. Very reasonable prices for the portion size. Décor a little dated, but hey it’s a diner and isn’t trying to deliver ambiance. Can’t speak to the non breakfast part of menu since our entire party had breakfast.

Hoagie’s is amazing! I have to say it is my new favorite diner(which is a big deal coming from this avid Key’s enthusiast). My boyfriend recently discovered this place and we stopped in for a late Sunday brunch today. I was nothing short of impressed with the entire experience. The service was great and the food was extremely cheap, fast and delicious. I have to say, though, that the retro décor was my favorite part of it all. I’m a sucker for the old-school feels. I will definitely be going back again very soon. Amazing, just amazing!

This place is great! Be transported back in time and away from the urban environment in this wonderful diner. Oh, and bring cash. Hopkins business owners tend to dislike newfangled plastic. So what could be better on a cold, wet day that comfort food? The specials were fried chicken, split pea soup, and hot turkey. I had the hot turkey which is a bunch of sliced turkey topped with bread, topped with mashed potatoes and gravy just the way they did in my little home town years ago. They have loads of cool old advertisements with funny slogans such as: «There are no bad vegetables, only misunderstood ones.» The counter with the stools is definitely vintage. The service was super fast and they help each other out. Like any good diner, they have regulars they know by name. If you haven’t been, you simply must go!

BRINGCASH. Serious diner style breakfast. Very inexpensive prices. You might have to wait in line on the weekend. The front windows/walls are so thin that winter comes right inside. I would seriously consider wearing extra layers if you visit in the coldest winter months. The bathroom door has worn down so thin in the area that people put their hand on the wooden door — you might see through it. Sure this place is older than I am, but some basic upkeep would be welcomed. The food was exactly what the hangover doctor ordered. Runny eggs, bacon, and that o’so tasty hash browns I just can’t seem to make the same at home. All delivered minutes after ordering by a fast and friendly wait staff. The prices are very reasonable, much less than heading to my standard breakfast fare location of The Original Pancake house. Overall, will I be back? Absolutely because I know a deal when I see one, and you can’t find this diner style hash’slingin breakfast anywhere else in the area that I am aware of. If you don’t mind a bit run down, you’ll love it here!

Basic diner breakfast & lunch is what they do. They do it well, but not necessarily the best. I was in for breakfast and got my usual 2 eggs OE, HB, WW dry. The waitress wasn’t sure if I had said wheat or white, so I appreciated her asking instead of assuming. After a good five minutes the breakfast appeared and the order was just as ordered. It is amazing how many places have a hard time filling an order for DRY wheat toast. The coffee cup was kept topped off throughout the meal. Here is where they excel — PRICE. My order was $ 4.35, and the coffee was $ 1.30 since I had food($ 1.50 otherwise). The eggs and toast were done very well. The downfall was the hashbrowns. While somewhat crisp they may have sat too long in the window before being served so that the potatoes were not as crisp as they could have been. They also had a large quantity of oil in them. The portion of hashbrowns was huge but they sure left a ton of grease on the plate. The coffee was not the best, but at that price I didn’t expect top shelf. Will I be back? Hell yes. The place is a good place for a cheap breakfast but don’t expect any frills or haute cuisine.

If you have ever wondered what it would be like to go back in time to the 1960’s, and you’re hungry for a great breakfast, look no further than Hoagie’s in downtown Hopkins. The food is fresh and prepared well. The service is solid. The wait staff wants you to become a regular and they treat you like it. The chairs, booths, and benches are old and uncomfortable, though. The prices are low. This is a great American value. They don’t take credit cards or checks. It’s a cash only kind of place.

Stepping into this place is like stepping off a time machine into a malt shop in the 50’s. They haven’t changed the décor since Dr Emmett Brown conceptualized the flux capacitor!(BTW: people were shorter back then. The chairs and booths are closer to the floor than standard seating in most restaurants.) I sat at the counter, removed my leather jacket and tucked my Marlboros under my white t-short. Before I could comb my hair back, my server slapped a glass of water in front of me and asked if I was ready for a drink order. He suggested the Patti melt, and I replied with«that’s great, daddy-o!» The service was as fast as my switchblade during a battle with the Sharks. I left satiated and paid in cash. No plastic or checks allowed in this joint. The only thing missing from this place is a Wurlitzer juke box.
