Amazing!!! We were on tour with the United States Band of Mid-America out of Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and we needed to rent a set of drum hardware. John Haga was amazing. We emailed him a list if gear we needed and within an hour he responded with a list of gear he had available and could supply. I called Guitar Center an hour earlier and told then the same thing. I am still waiting for them to call me back! Small business’s ROCK! John came in on Sunday so we could pick up the equipment. And this was all on Labor Day weekend. I highly recommend Bud’s Music Center in Hopkins! John Haga puts his heart and soul in this business and he takes care of his customers!

A new owner bought Bud’s this year and is bringing it back. They are still in the re-construction phase, but it is obvious he plans to turn it into a cool little shop. Lots of lessons available at the moment, and he is fount of knowledge about local music and where to find gear. Can’t wait to see the shop in a couple months.

I stopped by as I had not noticed the store before.(I do not get to Hopkins much either) I made the mistake of asking if it was new and the person at the counter replied,” Not really, been here since 1955.” The body language said it all. I was not welcome and should leave because he was not going to look up. I asked if they did guitar lessons and again the guy hesitates and does not look up . He says«No not really.» But they do over 375 a week on a good week of lessons I was informed. That was nice to know as I was looking for a market that needed a friendly music environment and this sure seems like one! Maybe it was a bad day but the 375 students were not there only me so I feel this rating is appropriate especially seeing it looks common in other rating.

As you can tell from their website, Bud’s inventory is underwhelming to say the least. Whatever it is you’re looking for chances are they don’t have it. Mostly, I believe, they continue on by offering lessons and student instrument rentals. They also offer repairs but in the times I’ve gone there I’ve never seen anyone working on anything. Mostly one or 2 guys holding up the counters ready to say«no, we don’t have those» to any inquiry you may have. But if you want a $ 450 Cort semi-hollow body. That they have! Spending most of my waking hours in the west metro, Bud’s could be a great resource for me to pick up some items during a lunch break but I fear their minimalist approach to inventory doesn’t fit into my lifestyle.
