So much fun. We had some great laughs with the man serving us. He had a great sense of humor and was very knowledgable. Very down to earth and not pretentious at all! He took the time to explain some of the wine tasting jargon that can be a little intimidating to some people. We left knowing several things about wine and wine making that we didn’t previously know. Highly recommend!

Very friendly staff, dogs on premises, offered snacks of olives and breadsticks and chocolate for dessert. Informative and educated. Try the Tempranillo!

I am very disappointed to write this however, when you advertise yourself as a dog friendly place then ask the folks(me) with dogs to leave because they bark to say hello to newcomers, well… We were having a great time with Ken, talking wine and physics and all other nonsenses but the moment my 11 month old girl barked her hello to a group of about 15 guests, a woman presented herself and forcefully requested we go outside with our noisy dog. I’m sorry, what? We were having such a good time before being shunned by this woman. She needs a reintroduction to businesses 101 or something. Sorely disappointed. She ruined our visit. Ken was Awesome.

This is a wonderful Hood River winery. It’s located by the railroad station. I have been here a couple of times and have always enjoyed it! We were greeted by John and his friendly malamute, Lucy. John was very pleasant to talk to and the wines were enjoyable. I especially liked their syrah. It was so smooth and fruit forward, but not sweet. Just a great, balanced wine! I bought a bottle of that. They do concerts herr on Tuesdays that I would love to see. They sound like so much fun. They also have all their wines on tap. You can purchase a growlier from them and have it filled for the same price as a bottle of wine! What a great deal. Anytime when I am in the area, I will make a point to stop here.

Good concept, but I probably wouldnt be back as I prefer the more traditional wine tasting ambiance and venue. In this winery they do the newly hyped tap wine where as it is kept from being wasted or going expired as can easily happen with bottle. They also will fill up your wine growler too. This place will do just fine and they come highly recommended from the other tasting rooms around. They do offer a nice little olive and bread plate with their tasting menu which I think is always a nice gesture. Good luck Springhouse cellar.

The wife and I live in the Portland area. Decided to get out of town for a little get away. We randomly picked Hood River. Great decision :) We’ve had a amazing time visiting all the winery’s and shops. But the highlight was Tuesday evening at «The Ruins» live band, dance floor lots of cool people having a great time.

Came here as a wine noob(more of a beer connoisseur) and loved it! The tasting was amazing as our bartender was super knowledgeable about the wines, flavors and varietals. The generous $ 5 tasting includes 7 pours and complimentary bread and cheese. The space is huge and well decorated, you wouldn’t know it from the outside! I can see why this space is a favorite for events and weddings. While we didn’t get to explore the ruins it was cool to see them from inside and the story behind the old distillery. We took home a 2012 Cabernet Franc, it was perfectly balanced thought I would have happily taken home any of the wines we tried. If I lived closer or had a car I would opt in for their wine growler which allows 1L refills of wine for the 725ml price. Love the wine on tap! Highly recommend this winery, do not miss! Perfect walking distance if you are at the Hood River Hotel.

For my lovely mother’s birthday, I took her to the Mount Hood Railroad Murder Mystery Dinner Train(whew — what a mouthful!) and we arrived about an hour early. So I spotted out of the corner of my eye Springhouse Cellar Winery and suggested we go wine tasting. It only cost a couple dollars and we really enjoyed our time there. The wine server, whose name escapes me, was amazing. She treated my mom so sweetly and walked us through each wine. We ended up purchasing a bottle. I also mentioned that my mom and I were interested in whether or not they hosted events there(aka weddings) and she gave us all the information(it looks like it would be amazing to have a wedding there). The wine was good — not fabulous — but yummy in its own right. The wine server was also very generous with cheese and crackers — she heard us say we were starving and just kept handing us more and more wine and crackers. What service! I can’t wait to go back!

Epic fail! Maybe a change in management or ownership? Good lord… Our experience was part of Wet Planet’s Wine tasting package(Wet Planet was amazing!!). We had prepaid for dinner and wine tasting as part of our package. We gave Springhouse a call as soon as we got off the river. The lady who answered, and later served us, was so rude! She essentially told us too bad, and the winery was closing in 30 minutes. Once we got there the food was lame! Salad and a sandwich with a Costco cookie. The wine was ok, but I couldn’t tell you anything about is since the lady that worked there only told us the order to sample them in. She told us «normally groups just want to talk». She was right, we did want to talk but we also wanted to learn about your wine as well. We basically felt like we were imposing on here by being there. There were 13 people in our group, had you talked to use at all, you probably would have sold more than $ 100 in wine. Oh well, your loss. Overall, super lame! I will not be returning here!

Springhouse is THE place to go for fun activities in Hood River. Every Tuesday in the summer they have concerts in the«ruins,» a fun outdoor space with great wine, food and beer. Plus, tons of other events are held in their amazing space by the train station. Wines are superb, and come in refillable bottles, and you get more wine for the same price when you refill the bottle than if you buy a regular bottle — plus it’s friendlier to our earth.

I was going to write a review of Springhouse because it’s one of our favorite wineries, but then I read someone else’s review that blasted the three wines we think are great, so I HAD to write a rebuttal! :) The great thing about wine(or anything really) is that everyone has their own tastes and likes. For us, Springhouse offers really good wine at pretty good prices, in a cool tasting room with friendly staff. I think that gives you 5 stars. We went there yesterday and bought several bottles. Every time we are near Hood River, we stop by there and get restocked. Yesterday we really enjoyed the Sauv Blanc, Sangiovese and their red blend«Ruins Red»(funny those were the wines the last reviewer didn’t like!). We also bought the Syrah and Petite Syrah – both really nice wines. And since we seem to stop there at least once a year, we bought two of their refillable«growliers” — you buy the 1 liter bottle and refill the wine – you get a little more wine than a normal bottle at the regular bottle price. I love that it’s environmentally friendly. Great place. We highly recommend trying them out!

I feel bad about about this review, but not bad enough not to write it. The place is really nice, I can’t believe I have not been here before. I guess in years passed the madness of Thomas the Train kept me away from this area. After having lunch with my hubby at a local place, I wanted to check this place out. The lady at the tasting room was nice and told us about the event on Tuesday nights with live music and pizza. We started to sample some wines. We started with the Sauvignon Blanc, wow, I never thought I could dislike a sauvignon this much. This is one of the easiest to like, I am glad the tasting serving was small, because I poured it out after the first sip. I then had the Sangiovese, again I poured it out, after that we had the blend and after pouring that one out, we decided to cut our loses and leave. Since a tasting is 6 wines for $ 5. I told her we would stop there and count my hubby’s and mine(3 each) as one. If those three were so awful, I didn’t need to go on and torture my palate. Too bad, I had such high hopes for this place.

Springhouse Cellar Winery saved the day! One week before my friends wedding was suppose to occur the venue called and said she could no longer have her wedding there. In panic, many places in the area were called to see what was available. Luckily, the amazing staff at Springhouse had an opening. The venue is absolutely gorgeous. The bride chose to have her ceremony outside and the reception inside due to complicating weather the previous days. The day turned out to be absolutely beautiful so it was nice for people to mingle inside and out. Also outside is an old stationary train. A large group of us snuck inside of the train for a nice photo-shoot. It looks like it stopped working yesterday! Love the venue! Perfect spot for a wedding.

This place is unique, where else can you get a growler of wine? I was a California wine snob till I ventured north. I was pleasantly surprised to find decent wines in Oregon. The wine is different than Cali fruit but just as wonderful in it’s own right. Winemaker Carey Kienitz does a fabulous job here and I’m looking forward to his new reds coming out next year. Do yourself a favor, drop in and enjoy good wine from the friendliest bunch of folks you’ve ever met.

Great quite and unique place. Tasting was 5 dollars but wavies with purchase. Their wine was pretty good and would recommend that if you are in Hood Ricer to check them out. A really unique thing they did was poor their wine from a keg. I had never seen that before. Also they have this wine club called Club 33. Basically you buy a 1 liter Bottle from them and in turn you get 250ml more of wine each time you use it to by a bottle.

One of my favorite wine tasting venues! I’m used to wine tasting in Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino county, though was visiting Hood River and thought I’d check this place out. They have wine on tap. It is a new/strange thing to get used to, but I really like it. You can buy Grouliers(pronounced Growl-ee-ay) and have them refilled, similar to all the Portland breweries. Best of all, they have great puns/jokes written about each of their wines, and the wine is at a great price. If you go, definitely try the«Make Cab Not War», every time I open it around guests, it seems to disappear within minutes.

Oh boy, after a three hour tour on the Mount Hood Railroad brunch train(where we were offered cheap champagne and forced to listen to the worst muzack imaginable for at least half the duration) I was definitely ready for a nice red wine. Fortunately for me, Springhouse Cellar Winery is located next to the railroad, sharing the same parking lot. Upon entering, we were hit with the strong smell of yeast and wood, indicating that the wine-maker had been doing his thing rather recently(the ‘08s must be in preparation!). A quick look around was enough to establish that the place was roomy and, well, woody. The floors are made of aged pine planks, the walls and bar of fresh pine, and a nice fire was going in the wood stove. There were several tables scattered about the large room whose walls were lined with oak barrels. We sauntered up to the bar, which had no stools but a nice long foot bar at the bottom. I must admit, I love little details like this. Everyone likes to put a foot on something, even when standing. What a great touch! The wine-maker was super friendly and happy to pour us a taste of whatever we wanted, so we tried several different ’07 wines to start, including the«quiet» merlot(Poetry in Merlotion), the«loud» merlot(Perpetual Mertlotion), the Yakima Valley Sangiovese(Sangioplasty — best. name. EVAR.), and the Columbia Gorge Gewürztraminer(Gorge-Traminer). All were full and flavorful, but we eventually settled on glasses of Poetry in Merlotion and Sangioplasty. My husband, who is NOT a big red wine drinker, was rather pleased with the muted tones of Poetry in Merlotion. It’s probably the first glass of red wine he’s ever really enjoyed. I, on the other hand, love the strong taste of red wine tannins, and Sangioplasty had more than enough to suit me. LIPSMACKING, indeed. Truth be told, we are normally beer people, but one can’t help but take advantage of the fact that so many excellent wineries exist in Oregon by trying out a few, and I’m glad we stopped into the Springhouse Cellar. I desperately needed to wash away the memory of cheap champagne and grating elevator music from our otherwise pleasant train ride earlier that day, and Springhouse Cellar Winery was just the thing for helping me forget.
