If I could give zero or negative stars, I would. I went to this place to get a loan on some of my grandmas old jewelry that she left to me when she past away because I needed to pay a bill. I had the full intention of buying it back as it had a lot of sentimental value to me. So I get the loan on the jewelry for $ 100. I knew it was worth more than that, but I figure I only needed $ 100, and this way I won’t have to pay that much when I pick it up. So the maturity date comes along one month later, and it slips my mind that I have to pick it up. But I don’t freak out about it because on one of the receipts they gave me it states that if I don’t pay back the loan in one month, there is still a 30 day grace period after that. So I come in a couple weeks late fully willing to pay back my loan and any late fees. When I give the guy(who I now understand is the owner) working there my receipt, he tells me «you didn’t come back on time, so your jewelry is gone.» I say«you can’t do that, there are laws that say you have to hold my items for 30 days before you can do anything with it.» Then he says«there are no such laws, look it up on the Internet, that jewelry is ours now.» I left that place frazzled. I went on the Internet, and looked it up and it confirmed what I thought, that pawnshops in Hawaii have keep your items for a 30 days in holding period before they can do anything with it. Then I went to another pawnshop to ask them for advice, and the owner looked over my receipts and told me the same thing, they also suggested that I go to the authorities and report them(which I definitely am going to do). But the thing is, the other shop I went to ask for advice said that if the jewelry was worth a lot more than the loan I took out, there’s a limit on how much they will have to pay me back that’s based on the loan amount. So in the event that they do pay me, they’ll still probably be making a profit. And to be honest I don’t even want the money. They could pay ten times the cash value of that jewelry and I’d still be upset. All I want is to buy my grandmas jewelry back. To be completely honest, I have never posted a Unilocal review before. I use Unilocal all the time to read reviews, but I’ve never actually had an account before. My only purpose for creating one was to let everyone know how shady this pawn shop is. If you really need a loan there are several other places close by or in adjacent neighborhoods that won’t screw you over. I will never forgive these people for what they’ve done.

This place offered more than the spot price for a 1 oz gold coin. Not sure how that worked lol but the important thing is I got more here than any other pawn shop offered

This business gets 5 stars because they offered the highest price by far for my bracelet. Jeremy was very nice, patient, and honest. Their ad says they cut out the middle man when trading in your gold for cash. My first thought was«yeah ok I’ve heard that before.» Let me tell you, it’s true because he(Jeremy) offered me way more than 3 other places I went to. My first offer was for $ 570 so I went to Jeremy and he offered me $ 900. I told him I was going to shop it around some more and that I would come back if he was the highest. He said no problem and was not pushy or arrogant at all. I guess he knew I would be back and was confident enought that he was very nice about it and understood that I just wanted to get the highest price I could. The next place offered me $ 646 and that included a 10% bonus for being a first time customer. The last place offered me $ 705. I then took it back to Waikiki Gold & Silver and Jeremy just smiled and paid me my cash. This is a true story of first hand experience and I will without a doubt take my next gold for cash to them. Don’t take my word for it though, just make sure that you at least make Waikiki Gold & Silver one of your stops as you shop around and you will see the difference in value from what anyone else offers you. And hey, if you find someone else that offers you more then take it. Just make sure you let people know about it on Unilocal!!!

I heard a radio ad about this place, and when I found it I realized it was so sleazy & unprofessional, in a weird trashy neighborhood, and a kid who was just wearing shorts and slippahs, the«office» was dirty & dark & cluttered with all kinds of weird junk, the desk was dirty & sloppy… I had a ½-carat loose diamond to sell that I’d bought from Zales, when I mentioned that he trashed Zales, I’d already sold the band at another gold buying place & he trashed them, I mentioned I’d gone someplace else to try to sell the diamond and he trashed them too… all he did was weigh it, then call somebody else on his cell phone & give a brief description… then said all he could offer was between $ 50 — $ 100, I said«sorry I wasted your time & mine»
