Brunch: The bastard child of breakfast and lunch. Some may argue that brunch was created so that lazy people could sleep in and drunks would have an excuse to get wasted earlier in the day. But is there anything really wrong with that? If a meteor came and wiped out planet Earth tomorrow, I think one of my last thoughts would be «Damn I wish I had gotten drunk earlier in the day!» I’ve been told I’m much more fun when intoxicated because over the years I’ve become rather wound up. Well what do you expect? I’ve got three kids dammit! Have a stab at childbirth and you’d be a bit messed up in the head too! A few cocktails turns me back to my old irresponsible self. Who cares about paying the bills! Who cares about taking care of an infant! I don’t need crosswalks! I don’t need travel insurance! I’m invincible!!! I think brunch is possibly the most enjoyable meal of the week and if God did not want us to enjoy it, she would have created Linner! So after many Twitter conversations with Esteban W, the UYE Brunch Boozers was born. Eggs benedict, waffles, bacon and 20+ Unilocalers drinking bloody marys on a Sunday before noon? Heck yeah I’m in! I have to say that the location Esteban picked was really gorgeous as Longhi’s has got a perfect view of Ala Moana Beach. A bunch of my fave Unilocalers were there along with some happy new faces and we had a blast! Our total bill was pretty hefty considering it was breakfast food but the company made it worth it. Thank you Esteban(aka Mr. Prolific) for putting together such an awesome gathering and I’m happy to see that this will most likely turn into an epic monthly affair! Brunch, you can be my bastard child anytime!

Mahalo for everyone that came out and joined the boozy fun and good eats. I am hoping(unless you ordered a plain waffle) that everyone had a great time, met some new folks and enjoyed the awesomeness that is brunch. I hope to see fellow Unilocalers next month, June 19th, 2011 @11am at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse( ) Father’s Day Edition: bring you’re dad and show him a great time with fellow foodies for some Simple-Satisfying-Amazing-American breakfast/lunch/BRUNCH.

I’m a secret introvert. I absolutely hate meeting people for the first time because I always worry about«damn, they won’t know that I’m trying to grow my hair out» and I assume that you’re staring at my unkempt coif. Also, I never really know how to tame my sometimes off-color humor(sheets, who the hell am I kidding, my humor is ALWAYS off –color) so I can come off as borderline Turrets. Another thing is that I can barely fit into my clothes because my journey to becoming Unilocal Elite has had some fattening consequences(oh ya, I’m a bit poorer as well) so I am always tempted to leave my house naked because it’d be more comfortable than squeezing into my should-be-baggy-jeans-but-they-look-like-skinny-jeans and my sausage casing-like t-shirt. Ok, enough of the psychological self-evaluation. I had a great time at this brunch. Save for the pricey menu, warm mimosa, and too thick toast for my crab cake benedict($ 17.50), the overall dining experience was great because it was nice to meet some new people, share some laughs and toasts(not the too-thick for crab cake benedict kind, but the alcohol-in-a-cup-Konpai kind), and put some flesh to the beautiful avatar/profile pics I see every day on my Unilocal«friends» list. I’m easily star struck so try to imagine how hard it was to not Unilocal(nyuk nyuk) like a little Chihuahua when I finally got to meet Emi H. Oh, and she was sweet enough to let me hold baby Isabella! Even though it was difficult to talk to anyone else on the other tables, it was nice to talk to Kui B., Norm D., Art, and Matt about working out, Cross-Fit, and losing weight in-between shoving the delicious crab cake benedict into my fat face. Esteban did great putting this together! I hope Justin’s «Beautiful Day» sunburn went away! I’m excited to meet more(Elite) Unilocal-ers this coming Wednesday at the Apartment 3 party. But for now, I am indebted to Longhi’s and Esteban’s UYE«Brunch Boozers» for popping my figuratively imagined(eh?) Bloody Mary and Unofficial Unilocal Event cherries. I hope to talk to more of my «friends» and make even more! Hasta la vista, baby. **disclaimer: I guess I’m not supposed to really talk about the food or service at Longhi’s, but if you want to know and you promise to not say anything to anyone, I encourage you to go elsewhere for brunch if you’re with a large party or want to have more than a couple adult beverages before noon otherwise you’re in for a gargantuan meal ticket!
