delicious food, good price, delightful service, clean and private place. Just perfect for me.

My three coworkers and I walked over from downtown. We called in four orders of Zeus’s Glory and waited in the lobby of the building. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes. Very fast and friendly. Kamal, the owner, mentioned that they will be moving next to Hank’s Café /Dragon Upstairs on Nuuanu Street(just makai of Hotel Street). They started construction and expect to open at the end of July. Now the food… My coworkers and I don’t agree on every lunch place, but we unanimously agreed that the Zeus’s glory at Shogunai Tajine was delicious. The gyro meat was light, savory and very tasty. Nothing like I’ve had before. It came with a salad which was a wonderful mix of greens topped with red onions and a sweet balsamic dressing. The quality of the food was outstanding. It was well worth the price of $ 8.75. Will definitely be coming back. Glad to hear that they will be at a more convenient location to the public.

Not sure what the business model here is, but I am sure it is working. I get there, the from desk says non-residents of the building can only get take-out and I would have to call and wait at the front desk until the food is made and brought out to me. Next thing we knew, some random dude comes up and says, «Oh no problem, let me take you inside.» Like its some secret fort or something. My parents were in town, so we had some beers, the food came relatively fast. The food is definitely made in advance and reheated. If you know anything about cooking, especially that type of food, would take about an hour to make from scratch, but sometimes you have to sacrifice that freshness for the sake of time. The lamb in a burrito, kofta, and tajine were all well made and delicious. Portion sizes are good but not huge in my opinion. Will probably get take-out from here in the future in a pinch.

I’ve been back quite a few times. I can say I have loved everything I have tried so far. So much that I have brought my very picky father here and even he has enjoyed it. The morrocan chicken was moist. The Zeus’ glory and it’s savory lamb bits were tender. The kofta sandwich is delicious meat with morrocan spices and cheese pressed between a baguette. *drool* I don’t know how to say how much I enjoy their food without drooling.

Repeat everything from the other reviewers, it is now not open to the public, but the owner is looking at getting a real restaurant somewhere else downtown, should be open in 2 months, when that happens, it will be the BEST place in Honolulu.

When we entered the Honolulu Park Place, we asked the security guard how good the food is at Shogunai. He gave us a thumbs up. I tried both the lamb and pork in the pita and baguetta bread. Both are extremely good. The portions are huge as relative to the menu price. Too bad the residents do not let outsiders in now. I wish the restaurant can soon move somewhere else for the public.

Seriously the most obscure location for a restaurant but I managed to find this hidden gem thanks to Unilocal! And oh me oh my, I’m going back again and again. Moroccan food, cooked to order! Once you walk in… the aroma is just amazing! The menu is limited but everything we ordered was great! Chicken Tajine on seasoned rice. Sooooo good! The hummus and pita was good too… different from Greek hummus but none the less good! The others ordered a Vegetarian pizza… wow!!! So different yet tasty. And then the Lamb Sandwich. For the life of me I forget what it was called but it was good and I don’t even like lamb! Now, the location… well, it’s in the lobby of a condominium. Weird yes. But who cares?! The food is good. Located inside Honolulu Park Place. There are tables to sit and eat. Average price of each entrée…$ 8-=$ 13 bucks. Not bad! Wish there were more menu items though!

Edit 7÷12÷12. Oh dang it. Disregard everything in this review. Right now it looks like the public can not get to this location. THEYAREHIDINGTHISFROMYOU. That’s right. They are keeping this place a secret because they don’t want this place to get crowded.(you know who you are…) Did you guys all read Thomas Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh’s review back in February? He used the word AMAZEBALLS in his review and said«every bite = orgasm face». Wow, I wanted to try this orgasm face food too. So let’s forget about the foreplay and get right into it: Oh-OH-OH-OH-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Zeus’s Glory $ 8.75 with fennel rice instead of pita(MYFAVORITE!) Zeus’s Glory $ 8.75 w/pita(the normal way it comes) Kofta Sandwich $ 11.95 Ah-AH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Moroccan Pomme Frites $ 5(YUMM!) Hummus w/pita $ 5 OMG! And he takes CREDITCARDS! ___________________________________________________________ HOURS(closed SUNDAYS): MENU:(not a large menu) TAKEOUT! There are only a few tables and a few bar seats, so call in your order to go. LOCATION and PARKING: I don’t remember.(You think I’m gonna give away ALL their secrets?! NOWAY!)

Hidden gem of a place that I almost don’t want to share, but I sincerely wish Chef Kamal success so here I am on Unilocal to tell you all to come for a visit. The restaurant is located in Honolulu Park Place so parking can be a bit of a hassle, but you could take a nice stroll from the nearby Safeway/Longs. Security will let you into the building no problem but just let them know you’re here to eat and they will have to buzz you past another set of doors. Chef offers delicious Moroccan food at moderate prices with the option to BYOW or B. For the wine, he has wine glasses for your use. He has CREDITCARD options, which makes him Superman to my credit card loving ways. Everything I’ve had has been delicious and spot on. He is a one man show so PLEASE be patient, his food is worth it. Already can’t wait for my next visit!

Street parking around Honolulu Park Place is free after 6pm, or there’s a municipal lot(max $ 3.00) on the left side of Beretania immediately after crossing Nu’uanu. After following previous reviewer’s instructions to enter Park Place and ask security for Chef Kamal, I was extremely pleased to find Shogunai Tajine. The atmosphere is casual and the food is amazing. Chef Kamal is friendly beyond measure and enthusiastic about his menu. He promised that I would enjoy his Tiramisu and it was the best homemade Tiramisu I’ve had. At $ 5.50, it’s also one of the least expensive. Kamal alternates weekly between homemade Tiramisu and Baklava, but the reviews of the Baklava are great and I’ll be sure to try it next time. The Chicken Tajine was amazing. With Moroccan food, I’m often overwhelmed by the spices, but Kamal’s use of spices is complimentary and restrained. The full flavor of the chicken is allowed to shine through. So moist and succulent, perfect! This is served with saffron rice and string beans which are perfectly seasoned. I also had the hummus and pita bread. The pita bread is warm and delicious, and the hummus is a perfect compliment. It’s obvious that Kamal has a flair for menu construction. He remarked that initially he had been commissioned to cook for residents of the building and have a rotating menu, but 11 months later he’s settled on a menu and specials that are priced and portioned perfectly. Call ahead 10 minutes, ask for the specials, and place your order if you’re in a rush. Otherwise, come with friends or a date, sit down, have some wine, and enjoy the company of a chef whose friendliness almost overshadows the excellence of his food.

Thank goodness for Unilocal or else I would have never known this place existed. As everyone says, this place is located in Honolulu Park Place and you have to tell security that you’re there to see Chef Kamal. I wasn’t sure what to order because everything sounded so good and once we all got our orders I can confirm that everything was in fact, SOGOOD! Anything you order will knock your socks off. The only downside was that the wait was a bit long but Chef Kamal told us to order in advance that way we don’t have to wait and can just pick it up. He’s so friendly and obviously talented. You owe it to your taste buds to come here. You won’t regret it.

I don’t know where to start… First off this place is in the oddest area! Could you imagine if they had more exposure the amount of business they’d get? I ordered the moroccan chicken tajine and OMG that was a lot of food. Very delicious! I’m still thinking about it. Definitely took me 2 sittings to finish it. My friend ordered the kofta panini sandwich and that too was very generous and tasty. Took her 2 sittings to finish it too! For the amount and quality of food you get for the price, Kamal definitely knows what he’s doing! Will be back soon…

Closed to the public! You can only place a phone order and the Chef will meet you at the entry for pick-up. Apparently, Honolulu Park Place owners do not want anyone walking in thru their secured lobby to access the restaurant. Actually, I don’t blame them — I wouldn’t want that either if I lived there and was paying for the security. CHEFKAMAL, PLEASEMOVETOANOTHERLOCATION!!! I’ll leave my review from a couple of months ago … Went here with several work friends after an awesome review from one in our group who’s a guru Unilocaler. Chose the Zeus’ Glory on spiced rice. It was bursting with flavor — ground lamb, herbs, spices, yogurt sauce to toss on top with a baby-greens salad… oh, so freakin’ good. The rest of the group ordered Pastrami panini-type sandwich, Zeus’ Glory-sandwich, the Cuban sandwich, and spiced fries. Everyone was so happy with their choice that they didn’t want to share — me included. We vowed next time, we’ll order one of everything and share. The owner/chef is such a nice person — makes you wanna give him a big hug after such good food and awesome service. You’ll pass the building’s security but just say where you’re going — no problemo. Only a few tables so good to come when they open — at 11. If this guy was 2 minutes closer to the other restaurants in downtown, he would definitely need another cook and wait help but then we’d probably be waiting in a line… maybe a good thing he’s just where he is.

After finding this place on Unilocal,my friend and I walked up to Honolulu Park Place to check this restaurant out. You have to push the button to get secuirty to let you in(we didn’t have to say anything at that point, they just let us in) and then you walk past the pool to get to the restaurant. There are 3 – 4 tables there and fairly small. And the food… was delicious! We split the Chicken Tajine and the Cubano sandwich. These two dishes were so good and the serving sizes were BIG… chicken was very tender and juicy… sandwich was BIG and flavorful! I ordered the avocado & orange blossom smoothie, which was delicious, fresh, herbal and not too sweet. Kamal really is the nicest guy. So friendly and just super super nice… did I say super? While we were digesting all of the delicious food, he brought us out a piece of baklava. it was soaked in honey and crispy on the outside… THEN he made a pizza for himself and insisted that we try some… he puts an egg on the pizza so it’s cooked all the way through, but the yolk is still just a tad undercooked(not runny at all)… this was delicious too! Big pizza loaded with cheeses, toppings, and herbs. You must try this place out… I don’t t know where you could park, so you should walk…

Great service, great food! I found a review of Shogunai Tajine on Unilocal and i’m glad I took the advice of the other Unilocalers! It starts off fun with having to ask security to let you in. «I’m here to see Kamal.» Kamal’s menu is short and I like it that way — otherwise I’d spend days figuring out what to eat! I tried the Chicken Tajine($ 13) and it was delicious. Chicken on saffron rice with green beans. Everything was tasty! My lunch buddy had the gyro(called something else) and I tasted her lamb and it was delicious! Kamal is genuinely friendly and wanted feedback, if any, on our visit and our food. My only regret is leaving without getting dessert! I didn’t know he took credit cards until after I paid so I used up all my cash!

Going to Shogunai Tajine makes me feel like I discovered a cool little lunchtime speakeasy on the edge of downtown. If security asks you if you know Kamal just say yes. Better yet, just tell them right off the bat that you’re there to see Kamal. Don’t worry, it’s not a total lie, cuz in a minute you will befriend the nicest chef you’ve ever met and when you come back next time, which you surely will, it will be like going over to your friend’s house for lunch. Your friend who happens to make the most deliciously aromatic Moroccan food that can’t be had anywhere else on Oahu. On to the food– he serves giant panini-like sandwiches, yummy looking pizzas, beautful plates of chicken, rice and green beans, very fresh salads with honey vinaigrette, and some of the best hummus around. To be honest I’m so over hummus, but his is really good. Next time I’m definitely trying the Moroccan spiced French fries… Great value, large portions, delicious food.

Elites! Remember those amazing Cubanos from the Grinch Who Stole Unilocal-mas Party? Remember how downright tasty those sandwiches were – absolutely exploding with flavor? Yeah, those amazeballs. Well, it turns out you can find them and a whole menu of excruciatingly delicious items hangin’ out between the pool and the fitness center at Honolulu Park Place. Pay Chef Kamal a visit in his kitchen, that is well off the beaten path, at Shogunai Tagine(ST) and he will graciously prepare a meal worthy of a shogun! I just left BambuTwo(because I desperately needed a martini) and was quite ineb.*elated* and was in the mood to treat the family to dinner. I park far from campus but Honolulu Park Place is on the way, so I thought I’d check ST and Chef Kamal out before heading home. I definitely wanted a Cuban sandwich again, with it’s flavorful and amazingly spiced roast pork, pickles and cheese pressed into a crispy hoagie. $ 8.95 I also saw and item called the Kofta Sandwich, which has tender grilled shish kabob beef, castillo bleu cheese and smoked paprika oil, and pressed together in a baguette for a sandwich that is truly amazing. I can almost guantee you will not find a sandwich that can even compete with how simply awesome this thing is. $ 11.95 Every bite = orgasm face. Can you say«hashtag(#) shameless!?» Oh my GOD these need to be at the Unilocaler party. Both come with a super leafy green salad and a light dressing(none of that iceburg crap with crack sauce on it). I also ordered a pepperoni pizza because my dad wanted one. Obviously he wasn’t prepared for how cray these sandwiches were. But I have to admit, it was pretty good… definitely not a specialty here(but a safe bet for picky eaters!) $ 11.95 The only thing I can ask myself is why haven’t I come here sooner! Next time I’m checking out the Moroccan Pomme Frites! Holy crap I’m definitely going to be making my rounds here pretty often… AND I’M BRINGINGFRIENDS!

You’ve probably heard about the popular food truck. In addition to having a busy catering business, oOwner/creator, Kamal Jenmari, now has a sweet little off-the-beaten-path café, Shogunai Tangine. It’s located in the lobby of Honolulu Park Place Condo. If you are not lucky enough to live there, you’ll need to have security buzz you in. Tell them you are there to see Kamal. Savory items you’ll find on the menu inlcude… Cuban Sandwiches, Moroccan Chicken Tangine, Avocado Salad and something called Zues’s Glory, a grilled lamb and veggie sandwich. Prices range from $ 8 to $ 12. Everything is made to order, so allow time for preparation. Better yet, call ahead to get the day’s specials and place your order. Wed — Sat, 11 – 2 and 5 – 9 pm.

Deeelicious. Shogunai Tagine is a restaurant serving Moroccan and Mediterranean fare, headed by Chef Kamal, who is part of the team behind the fabulous Shogunai Tacos foodtruck. The menu rotates every so often, but on my latest visit I had the Zeus’s Glory, the Moroccan Chicken Tagine, and the beef in Sri Lankan curry. Zeus’s Glory consisted of pillow-soft pita bread holding a mix of lamb, olives, and feta in a garlic tzatziki sauce, with a light salad served on the side. They actually gave such a generous serving of lamb that I ate some of it with the salad first, before attempting to wrap it all up in the pita bread. The lamb was wonderfully tender, and it was all sooo good that I couldn’t stop eating. :) The Moroccan Chicken Tagine was just as delicious, if not more so. Having been spoiled silly for the past six years by homemade tagines, I’m a complete tagine snob. Let me tell you what makes a good chicken with olives tagine: the chicken should be tender and succulent; the sauce creamy to the tongue with strong, but balanced spices; and the olives should melt in your mouth with just the right touch of acidity as you bite in. The Moroccan Chicken Tagine was all of that — absolutely delicious and perfect. It was served upon a golden bed of saffron-flavored rice and ringed with crisp green beans which were very tasty even on their own. Although I was in a happy, hazy state from the deliciousness of the lamb and chicken, I couldn’t miss out on the Sri Lankan curry because I’m a total curry fiend. I’ve had a lot of meals made by Sri Lankan friends while in college, but I doubt I’m familiar enough with the cuisine to judge on authenticity. Nonetheless, the curry was very gooood. Chef Kamal roasts and grinds the spices himself to make his own spice mix. The beef doesn’t come swimming in curry sauce, like Japanese or Thai curries do, but the flavor is very much all there, complimented by a satisfying, velvety spiciness. The restaurant also offers sandwiches and pizzas, catering to the condo residents who may not want to have that luscious chicken tagine for every meal(absurd, I know!). The real draw for those who aren’t residents, however, is the Moroccan and Mediterranean food, and a visit to Shogunai Tagine is a very worthwhile visit. Found at the Honolulu Park Place condos, it requires a bit of know how on how to get in – very easy, I promise! Contact them directly for the details. I messaged the @shogunai_tacos twitter account, which is really active and good at responding back. Walk past the front desk to the left hallway — you’ll smell the wonderful spices and easily find your way to the restaurant. :)
