Restaurant Yoshiya

If you are looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant, this is the restaurant to go to! Yoshiya has very good atmosphere. It’s pretty quiet and has nice lighting. The restaurant seems very clean and organized. Most servers are Japanese and very polite. I had Sukiyaki, and I liked it very much because it had a sweet flavor. Also, you can cook the meat on your own. It came with chawanmushi, rice, miso soup, ahi poke, veggie pickles, an egg (for dipping, the traditional way of eating sukiyaki)… It was definitely worth the price and I will return to this restaurant again. It is a little expensive, but they have kamaaina discount. I recommend you to go to celebrate special occasions!

Took my girlfriend and parents here on a Tuesday night. The food and service were both excellent; we ordered two Kaseis and I personally really liked the Japanese steak which came with one of the Kaseis. The sukiyaki was as good as any and it was unique because they let you quietly cook it on your table with a cup of wax. And the sashimi was very fresh as my old people can attest having many years of experience eating raw fish.
It was the first time I tried ume ice cream and it was mind blowing.

Had a dinner in Yoshiya last night. The sushi and sashimi are very good. I went into the restaurant around 8:30pm Saturday night. I did not have to wait. The 20% off discount is over. They gave me a 10% off because of this deal in Unilocal.
My daughter loves the kid’s meal but she was too tired to finish it because of our whole day activity.

Yoshiya is an authentic Japanese restaurant. Especially their sushi is really good. It compares to nothing I’ve had in Hawaii, it’s as Japanese as you get.

We came for lunch and think this restaurant is awesome. Fresh beautifully prepared food. This is a must!

Great place to dine in Waikiki… sashimi was fresh and big pieces too-​wow. My wife got the butterfish meal and when I say meal-​omg a lot of food. I ordered the steak and shrimp and that was good too. With drinks, sashimi and dinner with tip $ 150 but the waitress was so good I gave her an extra $ 20 on the way out. Recommend this place but it is a little hidden. 2^nd fl. of the Sheraton– after exiting the elevator go to the back past the white piano.

To start off, our waitress needed a sweatband. No joke, DRIPPING balls of sweat. Barely spoke English. Lots of Asians dining there = good sign. Poor lighting. Poor décor. Sushi bar was minimal and Saran Wrap. Get a drink at the Royal Hawaiian afterward, as they only have 3 martini glasses (mis-​matched). We had to return our glasses to waitress with each new round. Odd. Although, I will give them they got our beverage order correct, given the language barrier issue.
You walk up the gross stairs into a world of late 80’s bad restaurant vibes. They need a face lift and fast. However, the food is quite superb. Order the $ 16 Kids Bento Meal. The Negi Toro and Mackerel melted in my mouth like a Hello Kitty Popsicle on silky smooth sand.
Nice quality disposable chopsticks. Plates worthy of soap dishes (in a complimentary way).
They should hang Samurai Swords on the walls. Think Kill Bill 2.
Bottom-​line:
Arrive with tempered expectations.
Leave with laughs and a fresh-​filled Muffy Kai (AKA a yummy tummy).

Birthday lunch for 92 year old uncle with family. First time at this restaurant in Waikiki. Great ambiance and the food was delicious. Had miso butter fish and it was tender and sweet. My mom had the sashimi and shrimp tempura and she ate it all! Will definitely be back.

This place has great sushi. Really delicious, just far too overpriced. How can they justify charging $ 14+ for 2 pieces of sushi? The worst thing about this restaurant was the ambiance. I expected much more since it’s in a happening hotel but it was absolutely dead. I also really felt like the service was just terrible. In fact, we felt the service was worse for us because we were the only non Asians in the entire restaurant. I hate to say that but we really felt like we walked into a private party from the first moment to the last. We were made to feel like we didnt belong there. Too expensive, poor service, wouldn’t go back.

I would give 0 star if i can. Worst server ever. The main reason i choose this restaurant is i heard so much good thing about it and my girl wants to celebrate her birthday here. My friend got there first and this server Mayu just keep asking if they are ready. This is our first time here, she didn’t even care if we have question. Each of us order a set dinner and few sides. 2 out of 3 steak is over
girl’s steak is welldone instead of medium. My steak is medium well instead of medium rare. Fine, i totally understand that’s not her fault. The chef overcook it and I’m not gonna blame on her. I told her it’s overcooked and i just gonna order something else instead. No apologize, no nothing. She only took my plate and my other friend was confuse that is she going to replace hers too or what. Couple min later she came back to take hers without apologize again. Great. Japanese Breakfast in Waikiki
When staying at hotels in Waikiki I often wake up early (still on East Coast Time) Jonesing for a Japanese breakfast (green tea, fish, rice, tofu, miso soup, pickles, extras).
Surprisingly, given all the Japanese tourists, it’s hard to find. I’ve been going to Restaurant Yoshiya. They only have 2 breakfast options, both Japanese. The larger one, the «Akatsuki» is $ 20 and I really enjoy it. I’ll grant that the natto (fermented soy beans) can be an «acquired taste» if you weren’t raised with it ;)
A bit hard to find, it’s on the second floor of the Sheraton Waikiki in the back by the beach (btw, not to be confused with the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani).
I’ve only eaten here for breakfast — I’m not sure I’d recommend it for lunch or dinner.

I hate to do this but I have to give this place just 3 stars. The biggest hurdle here is the price, the restaurant-​in-​a-​Waikiki-​hotel price. The old 50% off after 8:30 for Kama’aina rate is gone and you will have to contend with paying tourist level prices for food.
The good news is, the food is great. Nigiri cut is traditional Japanese style with a long piece of fresh fish over a small helping of sushi rice. Actually, compared to other restaurants, the nigiri prices are reasonable. They also offer o-​toro and chu-​toro if you’re willing to spend «market price».
Their shrimp tempura is also amazing in that it has the best ratio between batter and shrimp. Sometimes other places put way too much batter which overpowers the shrimp.
Portion size is reasonable and if you can get a Marukai card for 20% off it will help… a little.
Service is excellent. The interior is spacious and comfortable. Parking can be found in the hotel itself.

I made a terrible mistake of eating here for lunch. This is one of the worst valued restaurant I have ever been in Waikiki.
On the Sheraton /​Restaurant website, the ribeye & shrimp lunch is $ 22; however, the actual pricing for ribeye & shrimp (two piece shrimp) lunch is $ 32. The menu online does not reflect the pricing increase.
The lunch was disappointing. For $ 32, you get a salad with watery dressing, two pieces of shrimp, 3 tiny pieces of sliced veggies, a decent sized ribeye, and a small dish of two pickled items.
Yoshiya — $ 25 terrible value, mediocre lunch. restaurant failure.
Kaiwa — $ 15 ($ 12) excellent value, excellent ribeye lunch plus sashimi. high end.
Chibo — $ 13 good value, ribeye too thin.
Suntory — $ 14 good value, excellent ribeye. high end.
Yoshiya is the absolute worst place for ribeye/​steak lunch bento in Waikiki even with kamaaina discount. I have listed 3 other places that cost less with better food and better value and higher end then yoshiya any day of the week.

I’ve been eating out every single meal in waikiki for the last 6 months, this is the WORST valued restaurant I have ever eaten for lunch in Waikiki. The food is mediocre at best.
Eat here if you enjoy taking rape showers after the meal.

I had a very non-​traditional Thanksgiving Dinner at Restaurant Yoshiya on the second floor of the Sheraton Waikiki. The restaurant will validate your parking for 4 hours valet or self parking.
Tonight was my second visit to this restaurant & I liked it just as much as the first time months ago. The first time in July 2012, I had the Edomae Kaiseki for $ 75 which included an assortment of 4 Appetizers, 3 Varieties of Fresh Sashimi, Simmered Vegetables of the Season, Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, N.Y. Steak Tataki, Nigiri Sushi, Tuna Roll, Miso Soup, and Dessert. (I know I missed taking pictures of a few courses because I was enjoying my Jack & Coke a little too much & forgot, sorry.)
Tonight I had the Tokusen Nigiri Platter Dinner Set served with appetizer & Miso Soup for $ 42. Each meal was great! See my pictures!
