One of two locations in downtown Honolulu, this is one of the better lunch time places to get Indian. Located in Topa Center’s food court, it’s conveniently located for people working in the Makai areas of the city. The restaurant is obviously very small and has shared tables inside(you’re better off getting the food to go). The owner was friendly and no-nonsense, just fast and efficient to get you out the door. They had many selections, both meat and vegetarian for the combo plates. Prices are excellent, especially for portion size and food quality. They also have side dishes like naan, samosas, and desserts. Many drink choices are available, most at fair prices. I have to remove one star as it’s a cash-only establishment, which is inexcusable with technologies available today(I would go more often if it weren’t for this inconvenience). I had two vegetarian curries– one with potato and peas and a spicy one with assorted vegetables. The saffron rice is always delicious. I had a butter naan, which was small but flavorful. It’s a nice lunch option.

How this place gets four stars is beyond me. Are people retarded or what? The food is average at best. There’s no real flavor in the dishes there. It’s like somebody started cooking Indian food and then added a shit load of lentils and beans as a filler. I’ve been there twice and both times they were out of a dish that I wanted. They only accept cash too which is kind of stupid but then again when you go to the place you kind of figure it out for yourself.

I love curry and was invited to come here for lunch with a workmate. The spicy marsala chicken was decent, not nearly as spicy as I wanted it to be, so I added sriracha to make it perfect. The flavor was tasty, but not excellent. The rice was fantastic and full of flavor with the Indian spices. The meal was healthier than most Indian places I go for lunch, and they seem to pride themselves for this as there is a sign out front talking about healthy spices they use. Overall the meal was tasty. I would come again. Also, they don’t take cards, so bring cash!

I was prompted to come here after getting terrible customer service on Unilocal from Gourmet Lani up the road. I just HAD to get some Komala curry as a petty revenge for being told I have no idea what«quality» food is. After waiting what felt like YEARS for these guys to come back from vacation, I was stoked to have an excuse to come by and eat here today! I got the shrimp masala and the tomato dahl which were equally flavorful, mildly spicy, and healthy! I loooove that Komala gives you one vegetable and one protein in their regular plates(and they don’t skimp on their minis either) and that you can get parathas and deep fried veggie turnovers if you want to cheat on your healthy curry. Be warned, the portions here are pretty hefty, so unless you want to pack some food away for dinner or as breakfast the next day, I would advise getting a mini and some turnovers. Good portions, nice staff, fast food? I’ll never betray you again Komala Curry House!

I prefer Thai Curry over Indian Curry most of the time, but this place is pretty good. They have a decent variety and their menu changes regularly. The dishes are usually pretty good, not spicy enough for my taste most of the time, but it does the trick if I am in a rush and want curry for lunch. The staff are friendly enough, but generally really busy. Serving sizes are average, and they charge extra if you want to get an additional veggie instead of rice, which I guess is ok, but it jacks the price up a bit. I don’t eat here regularly, but do if I don’t have time to leave the building and want more variety.

Not bad, not bad at all. My coworkers took me to enjoy one of my fave cuisines, Indian fare, for my birthday lunch. After shuffling through the halls of the Amfac building, we finally found this place, a hole in the wall, takeout joint. At first everyone seemed disappointed because we wondered where the heck would we sit and eat?!! However, we discovered that there was a sitting place for anyone to utilize and eat. So I ordered the vegetarian meal with two options. The rice was fresh, Ono and tasty. The veggie options were flavorful and a tad bit spicy, which I love. Overall, pretty good for fast food Indian takeout.

I visit this place about three times a week, mostly for their samosa. It is less then a dollar so it doesn’t dent my pocket book that much. Once a week I only eat their vegetarian dishes and I have to say their good but not great. In town there use to be another Indian Restaurant that had amazing food but they closed(probably due to their high prices). However, all in all a good place to eat with a lots of vegetarian options.

good place to get tasty food and very quick since it’s prepared in advance. not cheap, but not expensive as far as downtown fare goes. for the regular size plate I get(I need a little more food than the mini), you get deliciously flavored rice, one protein choice and one veg(or two veg). normally 2 chicken, one fish, one lamb, and 4 – 5 veg choices

I visit this place for lunch about once every three weeks, but I may have to start coming more often after trying the fish curry — so good! I got a mini, which was more than enough for lunch. The fish curry is marked spicy — which is why I had avoided it — but it really is just a little spicy(perfect for me).

Cheap Indian food. Nothing special, sauces made ahead and they drop in cooked chicken. Overpriced and small portions. Nothing too bad, and not good, just below average.

It is downtown take-out…but their dishes are delicious. I had the chicken korma which is one of my go-to dishes when I eat Indian food. Tender chicken, peas, and carrots in a tasty curry. The saffron rice was also delicious with all kind of spices that I can’t name. The mini(which is quite a bit for lunch) is $ 5. There are a half-dozen choices and some parathas and flat breads. I’m excited that there is such a yummy curry place nearby the office! Can’t wait to try the other dishes.

Got the small order of the Chicken Masala here. I was thrilled that all the dishes during lunch that day were dairy-free. Usually I can’t eat Indian food. Paratha does have butter in it, sigh. The chicken masala was decent. The flavoring was fine but nothing special, and the placard said spicy but it was more peppery than spicy.
