In Hawaii, they are not called flip flops. Call them that and the locals will know that you’re not from here. Instead they are called slippahs. No longer are the days where all slippahs are of the cheap variety. Hawaii produces a few brands and one of the them is Island Slippers. You may gasp at the prices, but these are high quality slippahs; you know, the kind you can wear to church. If you still want the cheap ones that hurt your feet and inbetween your toes, then head to Long Drugs instead. Everyone should own a good pair. Question is, will it be an Island Slipper? I have Olukai’s since they have a better selection for men. This brand seems to be more suited for the Wahine’s.

Love my flip flops so wanted to see what the hype about these locally made one, a fresh touch from the sweat shops. Other than nice patterns for the heel and somewhat more padding support, at least for the mens’, can’t justify the $ 90. Mine with the bottle openers are just fine ;) But indeed a nice, spacious store that’s got tons of selection, decent customer service. She didn’t quite coddle me around the store lol. amex good here.

Island Slippers has beautiful sandals in numerous colors and materials, and a wonderful local success story on the company. The cushioning on the footbed is amazing!(Memory foam, I think.) Most of the sandals — leather, canvas — are not waterproof, although at least a few pairs are made with a «washable suede,» which surprised me. There are a couple basic designs for men — mostly flip-flop style, but also an open sandal or two — and it looked like there were many designs for women. The prices on their shoes at this store beat the prices on Island Slippers elsewhere by $ 10 or so on the ones that I noticed. The staff is friendly and patient.

Woo-hoo! This is Island Slipper’s new location(open since mid-2013IIRC) right at Royal Hawaiian Center. Perfectly convenient for us mainland tourists staying on Waikiki, since it’s a full-size location that you can walk to. And it’s still full of comfortable, made-in-Hawaii goodness:
