After a brief presentation for one of our clients, myself and a co-worker were H-U-N-G-R-Y…so we headed over to Chong’s Bar B Q for some Korean fixings! The establishment was fairly crowded but we were able to grab a seat so we were happy(and so was my grumbling stomach!) The place is a small mom and pop-style restaurant. On the walls there are displays of transformer and lego type creations, probably from the children of the owners – a nice, homey touch albeit a bit strange for the restaurant! I ordered the mahi fish jun and my co-worker ordered the meat jun. Both came pretty quickly with the usual Korean apps in the beginning – seaweed soup(delish!), shoyu potato(needed more flavor), kim chee(hot and juuuust right), chive potato pancake(needed more flavor). Overall the food was satsifying and okay.

Dinner is usually a quiet one, a little mom n pop type restaurant that gets over looked because of Utage and Sugoi. Not a great restaurant but good enough. Over time the portions have gotten smaller which isnt a shock to me but I would be willing to pay more for a fuller plate. It looks pretty bad to have a plate empty looking.

BQ was okay. I’ve had better. Although they should turn on the air conditioner.

My boss took me out to lunch here. Its in a pretty hidden area by the DMV but I was quite impressed with the food. I got the spicy chicken plate and it was really good. It was pretty spicy but that’s how I like it. The prices were also really reasonable and they also provide the traditional Korean-style sides along with the main dish: miso soup, kim chee, cucumber kim chee, shoyu potato and this chive pancake thing that was really good.

We stopped here to dine-in rather than fighting rush hour traffic. Ate good food at good price with great«home-style» friendly service.

Just came back from Chong’s BBQ and it was very good. I went with some of my co workers and we ended up eating way too much good Korean food. Chong’s does offer other menu items if you are not into eating Korean. Overall, I think this Korean restaurant is very nice especially considering the price. I only have a couple of complaints: they do not offer enough of a selection of side dishes and when you ask for a refill of any of them they are pissed you did. This sucks because all these side dishes(Banchan) help to make Korean food so great. I guess if you consider their pricing structure it makes sense. Chong’s does not market its self as a higher end Korean restaurant. If you are looking for the total or complete Korean dining experience you will need to look elsewhere and you will have to pay considerably more. Either way, I think if you have not eaten here before you should really check it out. Well done. Yum… PS. This restaurant gets high scores for how clean it is, well done!

Dude, where else can you find a plate lunch place that serves Korean, Hawaiian, AND Japanese bbq!!! Oh, L&L? Ok… fine. Well. This place is definitely leaning more towards the Korean side. Needing my meat jun fix(for all ya’lls who THINK you know Korean bbq, just get your ass down to Hawaii, introduce yourself to the the cuisine’s Hawaiian adopted cousin meat jun, and i promise… you might never come back), I went for the meat jun/bbq chicken combo. This came with a side of mac salad and 4 separate bowls of kim chee, jabchae, and potatoes. Since I was starving, I ate there, and I think that’s what earned me the extra side dish. In all honesty, I stumbled upon this place after my trip to the Iwilei Best Buy. I was actually looking for the City Square location of Shiro’s, not knowing it closed down like 2 years ago(have I really been gone THAT long???). After a second of mourning my unfulfilled saimin craving, I saw Chong’s «grand opening» sign and I figured, why not? Got the job done, for sure. So if you’re not feeling Korean, this place also has tempura, chop steak, and an assortment of other Japanese and Hawaiian dishes. The seats are cushy and comfy. I hope this place lasts longer than Pj Korean, which is coming up with the same address as Chong’s(apparently no more…).
