3 stars because the beer was good. Food ok as well. But the service. Just a shame though the staff lacks kindness manners and personality. My husband and I live fairly close to. But we will end up driving further just for a smile.

Went in last night for drinks and food. Food was awesome and Travis the bartender/server did awesome serving everyone in our party of six what they ordered but still managed to keep 2 other tables and a full bar going. The food was awesome and the Irish nachos are huge and delicious. Beer still needs some tweaking but it is getting better. Bummed that they didn’t have any of the single IPA on tap since thats what i like the most right now. But overall had a good time.

Nice joint tucked in the side of Honesdale. Good selection of artful beers. Tried a pleasing flight of four: Pale Ale, Harvest, Dutch ale and DIPA. Good stuff.

Stopped in while in town visiting family. Didn’t expect much to begin with.(I know this area) but was actually surprised with the lack of attention they give. I sat at the bar. Wasn’t said hello to. Actually was talked to by another patron before any staff. I won’t go into any more details but being in the business especially being new there should be a lot more guest interaction.(especially with 3 guests at the bar) ratings: customer service: 1 beer: 4 food: n/a Still sitting here and still no care whatsoever about me and my visit. I may be wrong but I believe that I was passed my the Brewer, owner, cook, beertender, and probably someone else that works here. They spent more time talking to other people from around here then caring about people that they don’t know and now won’t come back. Cheers.

Went here with a friend not expecting much based on what we’ve heard from 2 separate parties beforehand, however the love of beer and my curiosity got the best of me so we went. Upon entering, we were blinded by bright fluorescent lighting in the 20 seat tap room. It overlooks the brewery operation and aside from the lighting, it was a very nice atmosphere, though quite cold. They have a dining room but did not see it as it was in another room. Although the bar was pretty much at capacity, the bartender seemed to only hang out on the other side of the bar, near the POS machine. He moved in slow motion and it wasn’t until 20 minutes after my friend and I sat down we were even acknowledged, and only then did he throw a few menus at us and proceeded to walk away, which we stopped him to order our drinks as we had ample time to think, debate, and contemplate among the 7 choices. He poured our drinks and immediately said $ 9 and walked away. After 15 minutes our beers were drank and we didn’t want to endure another rerun of the 6:00 news for one more round of beers so we put money on the bar. The next 20 minutes waiting for the totally incompetent bartender to realize he had 7 or 8 paying customers on the left side with empty glasses(some of whom have been walking out at this point) went by quite humorously. It’s amazingly effective to use terrible service as an icebreaker among parties to the left and right of you, and we did just that. There were 3 instances of customers coming to the corner of the bar from the dining room for their beers as I’m sure the service in there was just as bad, if not worse. We finally left, and before I shifted my car out of park I wrote to the brewery on Facebook as I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a shared horrible experience with strangers. He wrote me back the next day with the excuse the night I was there they had just finished serving«thousands» of people at a beer tasting earlier in the day but to please come back for a free meal. So I simply asked him«what about the other 2 times friends of mine went and literally put a couple bucks on the bar and walked out because the bartender served them and then disappeared?» to which I never received a response back. I really hope the owner of Irving Cliff reads this and hires competent and energetic staff to replace the lazy and conceded ones they have now, and while they’re at it to add a few more for good measure. A town like Honesdale can benefit in a big way from an «attraction» eatery such as this but I’m afraid if nothing changes on the service front it will only be a matter of time before Irving Cliff moves from an old barn to an old farmhouse basement. I’ll give it one more shot in the summer of 2016.

Small but quality beer selection. Not a lot of room for dinning but it is a brewery after all. Small bar food-esque menu. A unique find in the Honesdale area. Worth a visit.

Totally agree the wall has to go separating the bar and dining area, would make it feel more open. Beer was very good but food service was slow, over an hour for a burger despite food being good. Staff was great but service slow. Skip the food and enjoy the beer

What a nice place. Went with a bunch of my girlfriends. Very friendly staff. I had the fish and chips and it was perfect. My table was drinking the Rips purple magic, very berry delicious! Rest of the gals liked the Stourbridge ale. Nice place for a girls night out.

Food was good. Beer was okay but the dining area needs some changes. Removing the wall between the bar and dining area will make it feel more open and welcoming. Currently, you feel cut off from people and with the florescent lighting, lack of back ground music or TVs, the dining area feels cold and uninviting. If you’re sitting in the bar area on a busy night, you will probably feel more comfortable than what we experienced. Over all, I’d go back and try more beer when it’s available but I will not be dining there again.

Stopped in Friday evening for a beer and burger. Had the bison burger and a couple of Honesdale harvest pale ales. Beer was great and burger couldn’t have been better. My partner had fish and chips and Rips purple magic. We were both very happy. We also met the brewer, guy named Peter. He was telling us they were just getting started with more beers to come. Said cider was fermenting and they will start seasonal ales shortly. I hoping for pumpkin. All this in Honesdale! Can’t wait to go back!

Stopped in a few times for a beer only to find out only one type was available. Since they advertised a sampler, I expected to sample a few different styles. ANYWAY I had the one that was available, summer shanty style. It was OK but not great. A month later my friend and I stopped by for a IPA, which they had and which was horrible. Two sips was all we could take. Tasted like a flat coors lite. UGH. I make better beer in my cellar.

What we’ve been waiting for, a brewery close by with not only great beers but great food. Irving Cliff Brewery has both plus a wonderful atmosphere. Brian has done a lot of research to make this a real special place and it shows. You won’t be disappointed.
