Some food is decent while some is just trash. NEVER order the special, it tastes like old food from the day before. Good choices: THECHOCOLATECAKEISHOMEMADEANDAMAZING, conch fritters, cheeseburger, crab soup, cheese quesadilla, chicken sandwich, jalapeño pepper poppers. All others– I have no idea. The fish doesn’t seem fresh even though they are a seafood restaurant. The building is old and very dirty with a weird smell to it. Service is decent. Not a place I’ll go often.

Getting worse here– buckets of beer are cold and the band was great! shrimp were dry and overpriced– everything feels dirty and musty — needs an overhaul at the end of the night the mgr was argueing with the band and apparently did not want to pay them what was promised very unprofessional– the band was the best thing you all offered– will not be back again!

Dry fish not fresh, ordered the Mahi and husband ordered the Tuna both dry and tasted old The Cole slaw was gross and the lettuces looked muggy brown the only thing that was pretty good was the Conch Fritters other than that this place is horrible And the water don’t ask for tap it tastes like they filled it from the pond in the entrance

I enjoyed the crab soup the most. The service was not that great. The server didn’t come to our table much and we were quite disappointed. The entrees were not the best considering the price of the food. The shrimp tasted old and you would think the seafood would be fresh. Very disappointed and not worth the money

I wasnt expecting much… and i wasnt disappointed. The only reason im giving any stars more than 1 is because our server was amazing. I ordered a blackened grouper sandwich, which isnt on the menu, but our server said one could be made. YAY! and then i took a bite. I can best describe the taste as the smell of old hot can of open tuna left out on the counter a couple days. Clearly the fish had seen better days… about 2 weeks ago, and was only fresh when it was alive. I couldnt even finish the bite before i had to spit it out. You could smell the over fishy smell. I. could taste ot in my nose. I changed it out for a chicken sandwich… eh. Wendys is better. The calamari was… edible, but it tasted of old grease, as did the french fries. I all tasted like everything they fry. The alligator app is 4 thiiiiiiinly sliced pieces about the size of a half dollar, in an unremarkable sauce. The steak & shrimp«special» could best be compared to a steak dinner at Dennys. It was tough, overcooked & small. We came her because its a mile away & we didnt want pizza delivered. I wouldnt elect to come back to eat, ever, & would probably pass on an invite. The place was empty at 5:30pm… except for an over 60 crowd that was perched at the bar… they looked like permenant fixtures, a true barfly scenario. Dont waste your money. $ 60+ for a subpar dinner. I think we should have ordered pizza.

I wish I had good news but dont. Do not get the specials. The shrimp was frozen just like they bought them in walmart. We both had the shrimp and steak special $ 12.99. To good to be true. The steak was so tough I couldn’t even cut it with the knife much less eat it. No kidding !! I sent it back. They were going to take it off our bill but I was really wanting a steak so I gave them another chance. The 2nd one was just ok. It was tender. The service was slow as stated before but it wasn’t the waitress fault. The jalapeño poppers were actually good. The restaurant seemed more like the bar scene and bar type food. The décor was old and smelly, but they have the old ship theme going so it fit right in. Sorry but we won’t be back. There’s way to many excellent restaurants in florida city to spend our money.

The worst dining experience I’ve ever had. They were short staffed but not an excuse for such bad service. You could hear the kitchen staff screaming & arguing in the kitchen. It took 15 minutes for our waitress to take our order & another 10 minutes to bring our drinks. She brought the wrong soup out when we finally got it. My medium rare filet mignon was well done. We complained to the manager & all he could say was, «We’re short staffed & you need to be patient.» He did stop the screaming from the kitchen.

Service was very very slow… Apparently they were short handed and not able to handle the sparse crowd. Actually could hear the wait staff and kitchen screaming at each other in the kitchen. Speaking to manager was not fruitful. Not the best of situations. Will not return even though food was excellent.

Stayed near by thought it looked tacky but it was walking distance. Looked in the restaurant part .no went to the bar… yes. the service was excellent! Three top shelf drinks three glasses of wine plus great ribs. Great coleslaw just over $ 50.00. Would go back

I would give this place ZEROSTARS if I could!!! Our waiter took 30 mins to get our drink order, we waited another 20 mins for him to deliver it. We ordered our appetizers with our beverages and waited an hour for him to bring them out, when he finally did they were Luke warm, if that. Half of our drinks were empty and had to go up to the bar to ask for another round. When he brought out the entrees he only brought us 4 out of the 6 and they were Luke warm as well! He kept telling us that the kitchen was slammed but the tables around us were getting food and drinks in a reasonable amount of time. Our server sucked. My food never showed up and the second plate came out cold. I wished we would have had better service since I always drive past this place and the inside is so cool.

Traveling from New York we randomly saw the note«steak and shrimp special for 12.95». I didn’t expect much from the restaurant with such unimpressive interior and exterior but I must say that the deal was excellent! My food was delicious ! The Steak was very tender and cooked well! We enjoyed the meal with good quality draft beer. The service was good as well Thanks for my first meal in Florida!

I thought this restaurant was just okay, however I was with a group of 11 and we voted on it and they liked the food, rated at a 4-star. I took a democratic vote, 4-star it is. Again, we had many various dishes from turf to surf to salad and the fish got more stars than the turf. In my opinion, the prices are a little high for what you get, but they were open on Christmas day. :)

My husband & I came here for a drink after checking into a nearby motel at the start of our road trip. I can only speak for the bar and drinks, as we did not eat. If you are after cheap drinks then this is your place, with $ 5 pints, wine & select cocktails. There was a live band playing, which were enjoyable to watch. The bar is very interesting and novelty with lots of fun memorabilia around the place, including fish on the wall & parrots hanging from the ceiling. It was a great place to people watch with lots of interesting characters. If I lived local, I probably wouldn’t frequent here often but it was a fun place to drop in on during our road trip.

This restaurant has been a fixture for my family. We have come here many times over the years and have always had a good time. My sis wanted to have her birthday dinner here, so southbound we came! As The Hubs was driving down, I checked out the Unilocal reviews and was somewhat surprised at the negative reviews. Granted, it’s been a while since we ate here, so I was hoping that it hadn’t gone downhill. As we arrived, I saw that the décor has remained the same. Yes, it is a little dated and it certainly ain’t nothing fancy, but it was clean and neat. We were greeted almost immediately by a very pleasant young woman and she seated us at a large table(we had a group of 7 in our party). Our server arrived within a couple of minutes, and we had drinks and menus almost immediately. The dining room was not crowded, but it did fill up to a comfortable amount as the evening progressed. Our server was attentive, pleasant, and prompt. She was knowledgeable about the menu selections and offered some good suggestions. The food was as good as I remember! My shrimp platter was quite excellent, with large shrimp that were cooked to perfection, not overdone, and not drowned in breading. The Caeser salad was fresh, though the dressing was a little tangy. I ordered a glass of reisling and it was a very generous amount(I would have preferred it to be a little more chilled, but I’m used to warm-ish wine in Miami.) The Hubs was happy with his Surf-and-Turf. He gave the lobster a «meh» but said the steak was excellent, very tender and flavorful. The boys demolished their dinners(shrimp and lobster, and the ahi tuna platter) and my sis and bro-in-law split a house salad and enjoyed a shrimp platter and some sort of seafood platter respectively. My step-mom loved her Pepper pot shrimp! I took a poll, and everyone gave the food a thumbs up! Dessert was key lime pie and chocolate cake and both were smooth and rich, a great ending to the meal. Our experience was overall a positive one, with good food and pleasant service.

Seafood with European flair. Ms. G, Miss E., Mr. B and I visited the evening of July 3, 2015. Food is well above average. Location and parking are convenient; have been meaning to eat here for 20 – 25 years as we get down here as we drive by on our way to the Keys annually or twice a year. Server was slow to get to us, but did a great job once she did. I have to knock a star off for timeworn ambience. When my grandparents took us out to eat for seafood in the late 70s, it was at places that looked like this. It’s just(probably) a family-owned product of its era and, I think, more a family destination than romantic(not recommended if romance is on the menu, or if the restaurant choice is part of your mojo or «toolkit of seduction»). Perhaps some people enjoy a sense of nostalgia – and I kind of enjoyed that – but probably not the majority. Nostalgia factor or not, the interior of the restaurant, and particularly the bathrooms, need to be freshened up: wood refinished, reupholstered and recarpeted, repainted, tile regrouted(and perhaps retiled altogether).

What a let down, should have looked at Unilocal reviews FIRST. Came here for dinner and was quickly seated by the hostess, but didn’t get acknowledged by a waitress until 15 minutes in. We ordered our drinks and food. It was expensive and bland. We tried the bacon wrapped Jalapeño Pepper Poppers, it was basically a sliced pepper with cream cheese(or so they said, tasted like ricotta) and wrapped with bacon. The taste did not come together and we left half of them. I had Parmesian Pasta with chewy chicken and tasteless sauce and my boyfriend had Mahi Mahi that he said was«eh». The bill came out to 63 dollars. Not worth it even a little. Wouldn’t recommend, which is disappointing since there is so much potential for this restaurant. It has that tourist appeal with a themed setting. I’m sure it could be really popular if the menu, service, and food was revamped.

Ignore the other reviews, when you enter there is a sign which states seat yourself — sure people were waiting, but i guess this is what happens when folks pay no attention to signs, there was service which occurred immediately. I ordered the Crab Soup and sautéed alligator, boy the alligator was AMAZING, I wish they had a larger order, the crab soup was delicious nice and creamy and the bread was fresh. Overall damage for my order $ 17 w/water way better than Joes Crab Shack plus food is fresher, do come here for lunch
