Brookdale Plaza – Hoffman Estates

Never did I anticipate that I would Unilocal an assisted living facility, but when my favorite Italian aunt needed more help to keep moving, my cousin checked this location out.
The Devonshires, upon arrival, looks like a very large high rise condominium; which I find to be a good thing. Yes, it is placed strategically next to a major medical center, but the residence itself does not scream, «I am a residence for the geriatric population».
My Aunt’s unit is spacious and pretty homey, thanks to the ability to paint and decorate as you choose. Surrounding grounds are close to forest preserve and golf course venues, so «concrete» is not the predominant feature.
They also have some decent walking paths and (depending on ones condition) small pets are allowed. I think what I am saying is that The Devonshires makes a huge attempt to make it as normal as possible. The meals are what you might expect, there are plenty of activities and outings and it appears that the staff do care.
If you can get past the stigma, you can get to the bottom line and that is this: when you can visit with someone you love for 6 hours in her cozy living room, and those 6 hours go by like 6 minutes, they are doing something very right for the residents and their families.
