Wei’s is the only place in town to get authentic Asian pastries. I like the coffee bun, and my husband really likes the milk bun and the red bean. To address what someone below said, certain fillings are dry/crumbly, but that is by design. They are drier than what other places offer, but the pastries taste great with coffee or milk. They offer a few other desserts like eclairs, brownies, cheesecake, fruit parfait, ect., but I would stick with their Taiwanese options. The pricing is affordable, and you can also order Taiwanese style cakes here as well. I wish they made(Chinese) moon cakes though! I really hope this business does well. The Chattanooga area needs more international food venues that are unique and fun like this one. Give them a try.

Hours are different again Closed Monday and Tuesday Wed — Sat: 8am — 6pm Sun: 11am — 5pm I saw a coupon in the newspaper in some sort of food section where 5 buns got you a free Assam milk tea. So I got a buttercream, a coffee, a coconut, a milk cream, and a jalapeño cheese bun. The total was just over $ 8, and I got a cold tea. The tea was WAY too sweet, I had no idea that’s what I was getting into and I wish I had known because it was kind of gross. They might want to make that more obvious, all the sign in the store says is that you can have it hot or cold and what the prices are for the two sizes. As for the buns, I split them with my family, though I had the milk cream for myself. It was gross so I’m glad I didn’t save it. We’ll get into why below. Buttercream is still #1 for me, and it was also for my mom and dad. Coffee was just awful, I didn’t even eat it. Like the milk cream, the inside stuff was crumbly but unlike the milk cream, the coffee was impossible to eat because of this. The coconut one was good, it just had coconut on top rather than some kind of cream inside like the others. And finally the jalapeño cheese, which was of course my brother’s favorite, was an interesting version of a savory bun. It was reminiscent of pizza. I’ve known about this place being here since it opened and hopefully now my family that does live here will go there more often. Both times I’ve been, it’s been pretty dead.

Wei’s Taiwanese Bakery is a nicely kept secret of Asian cuisine in our region. Their pastries are made and decorated with great artfulness and taste simply delicious. Their prices are very reasonable and you will not go wrong by trying them out. In case you are not familiar with their different offerings; they always keep a plate with samples that you can try out before you purchase.

The bakery landscape in Chattanooga just got a little more exciting! If you’ve visited Japan, Taiwan, or Korea, you’ll know that fresh bread and pastries are high culture there. Bakeries offering inventive, exquisite, and tasty treats for the everyday and special occasions are found on every street corner. Now Chattanoogans can have a taste of that right here in Hixson. Wei’s is not as refined as bakeries in Tokyo or Taipei, but it’s a nice start for those who are unfamiliar and for those Asian Chattanoogans who are a bit homesick for such baked goods. Most of the bread varieties are a little sweet; that’s very typical of Asia’s «western-style» baking. My favorite is the pineapple bun called«Bolo Bao» which is similar to the Mexican pan dulce. At Wei’s they are a bit big and cost $ 1.55 per bun. We also found another bread, a walnut wheat loaf that reminds us of German breads; it’s pricier at $ 6. But in general the prices are good; unbeatable since they’re supposed be made fresh daily. Where else can you find affordable fresh bread in the area? They also have a range of western pastries like tiramisu, brownies, and fruit tarts, all for under $ 2. We’re super thrilled that this wonderful side of Taiwan is being represented in Chattanooga, my adopted hometown(full disclosure — ½ the authors is Taiwanese) so I really want this place to succeed. We hope everyone will go and give it a try. This was definitely a nice surprise during our xmas visit.
