Seriously go to the wreck versus the main restaurant. Staff was great. No really we had been on a LONG wait and they stepped up. Food was delish. Seafood was amazing. Come for the atmosphere stay for the craft beer.

I went on a Thrusday and I had the low country boil. It was very good. We had a great view of the water from our table.

Before I begin, we live in Charleston and know good food. As a tourist to Hilton Head, don’t fall for the«No wait at Wreck». If you want to eat at the salty dog, they will have a wait and they will push you to the wreck. We had a hush puppy app. Hush puppies should be made with cornmeal and have tartar sauce on the side. These were like doughnut dough with butter on the side. People of Ohio– these are NOT hush puppies! Next my son had a cup of shecrab soup. This is not supposed to be watery like a broth. Great shecrab soup, like served in Chas, is thick and rich. They should stop serving this garbage. The fried shrimp is imported shrimp pumped with tripoloyphosphate(bad chemical) and ridiculously overpriced. My wife had the crab dip app which, honestly, they should fire the chef over. It tasted like it was an afterthought. The worst crab dip we have ever tasted. My daughter had pasta and surprisingly it was good. I realize wait staff can trash a restaurant and this dude needs to go. Alex is awful. NEVER filled tea or water. Had to ask for refill as we asked for check. We would have said something to manager but never saw one. I take that back, when we were leaving he asked how everything was, perfect timing since we had already paid the check. DONOTEATHERE!!! It is a tourist trap. WAY overpriced for garbage food. This place would be closed in a month in Charleston.

We love the Wreck. Can’t get into the Salty Dog anymore, but that’s ok. Drinks were great, crab wonderful, hush puppies sweet. Our waitress, Francine, did a great job with our party of 11. Upstairs bathroom is a pain, oh well.

The wreck of Salty Dog lived up to it’s name, as in a wreck of an experience. We originally were going to eat at the Salty Dog, but they told us we could come here since there was no wait and it was the same menu. It was just after 3:30 and not busy at all, it took 15 – 20 mins for a server to get our drink orders. We had to go up front to even get a server and they were surprised no one had come over yet. It took a little over an hour after we sat down when our food finally arrived. When it arrived, two of the sandwiches were only halved and not whole. After we finished the server did offer an apology(he was probably new) but it was not a memorable experience. Real quick, food was overall good. The fish Po Boy I had was solid but expensive for such a simple sandwich. I ordered a side of hush puppies which were some of the blandest and most underwhelming I’ve had, and I’m a huge fan of hush puppies.

We sat outside with no wait and enjoyed our time. It’s a typical fried fish emporium but we wanted the vibe of «the Salty Dog» without waiting 1 hour. The views were great. We had the fish tacos(a special) and they were good. The service was prompt and overall a good experience.

After a 2 hour wait at the salty dog we came to the wreck. We had a large group and we’re happy to wait for a drink. After sitting for over an hour we asked about our table and the hostess and team were confused beyond belief. Our waiters were so confused and messed up all our orders. I hoped a manager would step in and help, but nothing. They were more concerned with getting out of the place to do whatever was planned than fixing their problems. I would never recommend this as an option for any group or small group. Waste of time and ruined the evening.

This is one of my yearly favorite spots for fresh seafood! The oysters on a half shell are amazing to start the evening. The She-Crab soup is the best I’ve had and have ordered it every year I visit since they opened. I love that the staff is from all over the world… Their name tags have their name and their native country which is a great conversation starter too! They serve Salty Dog Café draft beer and it compares to the Foothills Carolina Blonde! My favorite entrée would have to be the swordfish with steamed vegetables! It’s fresh, always cooked to perfection and a very large portion. I have been to Hilton Head for 30 years every year and this is a must every time! You can enjoy meals indoors and outdoors while overlooking the water. They even have swordfish on the kids menu instead of generic fish sticks! It is a little pricey, but the quality and experience makes it worth it!

Worst lunch on the island! Staff was lost, 30 minutes to take our order. The food was late 45 minutes from ordering until food arrived. Orders were wrong, took food away brought new plates still not right. Ate it anyway.

This place is appropriately named. Wow, not a good experience. 45 min after we ordered our food, it finally came. Many other tables ordered after us & got food first. I ordered no onions on my burger, it came with onions. I ordered chips, they brought fries. They said the burger would be medium, it was burnt. The view was nice and they did not charge for the burger since it was messed up.

Food isn’t that great for the price they charge. If it wasn’t for the view and great service it would have gotten 2 stars.

Come on posters! You are in Hilton Head and complaining about how touristy Salty Dog is? Get over it. Food is good(not great), service was good and beer is cold. We went at lunch and it was fine. Sure there were some kids but don’t they get to eat also?

Basically a consolation prize for any guest after seeing a long wait at the nearby Salty Dog Café. Menu is surprisingly limited with very little that feels unique. The hush puppies are good but everything else was in the 2-star /3-star camp. The server I had was top notch, did a great job taking care of my table — food order accurate, drinks delivered quickly, saw us immediately as we sat down, etc.

Touristy, but the food was pretty decent. When they made a mistake, the service made up and fixed the issue without even asking. Worth a try if you are visiting and want to check out the area. Great location.

This place is great and one of a few places we always come back to every year. The atmosphere and view is awesome and the food is really good. Recommend the crab cake sandwich or the fisherman’s pasta. The service is always good but this past time was exceptional. We had a group of 14 and our server(Kyle) handled it flawlessly. Take the family there for lunch or dinner.

Fun atmosphere with good service. The jambalaya was awesome and was plenty for slime one to share. Just the right of spice to it. We had a large party and was put in a smaller table so that was a little disappointing.

The only reason I’m giving this place three stars instead of two is that I knew I was going for a kid friendly place with not great food. The bread they brought to the table was stale and hard, my shrimp were not high quality, and the waitress never came back to refill our beverages. On the plus side they take large parties, it’s loud so your kids don’t get«looks», and the outdoor face painting and kid dancing area were big hits. So if you go make some memories with your babies and eat a salad ;)

You come here for the ambiance, not the food. The Wreck of the Salty Dog has the identical menu to the Salty Dog Café, and we turned a 2 hour wait into no wait by simply walking across the deck to this overflow restaurant. The prices are a bit high for what you get, but I suppose that comes with the territory. Still, for $ 25 I expected my Fisherman’s Pasta to be something more interesting. It was supposed to have Crab, Lobster and Shrimp tossed with penne pasta. First, and probably to no surprise, the pasta was definitely boxed(I don’t expect inhouse fresh made, but at least get fresh-to-frozen over boxed). Then, about 50% or more of the above seafoods were sort of shredded finely… like IN the sauce as opposed to lump pieces. Kind of ruined the experience. Finally, the sauce had a little spice to it. Not something the average joe can’t handle, but might be a consideration for a hot day. The portion is massive, easily enough for two people. Would definitely NOT recommend such a heavy, spicy dish in Hilton Head heat. Backing up, we started with hush puppies which weren’t bad, but weren’t good. They literally tasted like fried corn oil and that’s it. Was hoping for a more intense cornbread type taste, but it was a bit bland. Mixed drinks are about $ 7-$ 9, and I tried the Pina Colada, which the table agreed was in a smaller-than-average sized glass. So in short, the food is edible though boring and overpriced. The ambiance is OK though, especially if you have a good view of the water.

I have been numerous times. Overall: alright. The décor is amazing! The piano music is fabulous. The hush puppies are out of this world! The blackened fresh catch is always outstanding. The service is usually just okay. Either the server and/or the kitchen typically screws up at least one dish, e.g. 3 out of 12 dishes on our latest visit of 13 people. Everything is pricey, including the kids’ menu. The frozen cocktails, e.g. daiquiri, piña colada, are made with bottled mix, not fresh fruit, and therefore not worth the $ 7 price tag. The calamari is rubbery, obviously not fresh, and served with what tastes like ranch from a bottle. I will be back for happy hour drinks and hush puppies but almost certainly nothing else.
