We have used Resort Quest many times in the past 8 years to rent a condo in the Mooring Bouys complex that is just steps from the beach in Palmetto Dunes. While the process of renting online was simple and efficient, and the staff member we met upon check-in was pleasant and knowledgeable, we were SO disappointed in the condo itself(#87−88). Talk about OUTDATED! I get that we paid for proximity to the beach, but at some point doesn’t Resort Quest owe it to their customers to ask the condo owners to dump a little money into the property? Here are our complaints: 1) We actually rented this same condo 5 years ago and it was literally the same — no changes or upgrades were made. I can handle formica countertops but when everything else starts to get run down(carpets, appliances, furniture), it’s time for a little TLC upgrading. 2) The couch in the living area had stains on it. 3) The TV in the living area was so old and had 17″ screen. We were not there to stay in and watch TV but we did relax at night to watch a little. Would it really be that hard or that expensive to ask the owners to buy a small flat screen? 4) The TV in the«master» bedroom didn’t even work — just static; I don’t think it was hooked up to cable. 5) The paint above the shower in the«master» bath was peeling. Looked very trashy. 6) The carpet seam from the«master» bed into the bathroom has separated and the carpet nails are poking thru — we managed to step on them every day. 7) The headboard in the«master» bedroom is broken and small nails are poking out. 8) There are no blinds on the windows in the«master» bedroom, only sheers which makes for a very bright room day and night. 9) There is NO hairdryer in the unit! I would have liked to have known that before packing! I was vacationing from CA, so I had to go to WalMart to buy one! I didn’t realize there wan’t one until after 5pm. When I called RQ, I got the after hours staff(who was in FL, btw) and all she could do was send an email to the HHIRQ staff to be answered the next day. We got a voicemail from RQ the next day saying no, the unit isn’t equipped with a hairdryer, «you will have to bring your own.» Um, I am already here, it’s to late for me to bring it all the way from CA. I would have appreciated a follow up call but never heard from them again. I would use RQ again, but I will NOT stay in unit 87 – 88 again. I plan to take their survey and to send them pictures of all the areas I complained about above. I hope they make the upgrades because the convenience of the unit is great.

We went through them to rent a condo at Villamare which is part of the Palmetto Dunes area so I can only really speak to my experience there. My family had vacationed in Hilton Head previously but we had always gone through Palmetto Dunes itself instead of through a third party so this was a relatively new experience. In the future I will go through Palmetto Dunes again. I’ll start off with the office. It’s relatively far from the rental property which is understandable given that they have properties all over the island. However, it was a little hard to find and off the beaten path. They also have fairly restricted hours and I couldn’t understand why it was that if check-in is at two, they are only open at four. Granted, they allow you to pick up your materials through a late night box but all the same, it seems a little restricted. Luckily, we were able to check in early as our drive wasn’t as long as we thought. The main reason I’m giving them this relatively low rating is because of the property itself. Don’t get me wrong, the Villamare complex is perfectly situated along the beach and this fact alone made it worth the trip. However, the condo was incredibly dated. The television was at least ten or fifteen years old and the appliances and bathroom fixtures were incredibly dated. There were also a limited number of kitchen utensils and cooking supplies and what knives they had were incredibly dull. Also, there is not even basic housekeeping services and the rooms looked a little dirty. When we showed up one of the deck doors in our room was completely busted though they did send someone out to fix it relatively quickly. Also, the air conditioner was messed up and did not keep the condo cool at all. Every night we all woke up sweating because the air would not kick on. We followed the instructions but it still did not seem to work. I don’t know how other property managers handle the maintenance of their condos given that many of these are timeshares, but I will not book through Resortquest again. My experience of other units has been that they are much better maintained and upgraded. Whether this was a pattern or a fluke, I will not be booking through Resortquest again.
