GPS guided us to a restaurant that was closed. What a pleasant surprise to stumble into this restaurant. Sweet & Sour soup — the best! spicy & flavorful MaPa tofu — vegetarian. without meat, how could they make this dish soooo delicious with lots of shitaki mushrooms. Orange Beef — peppercorns, orange grinds, dried red peppers It was a great way to end a long day of sightseeing & driving. I’m definately coming back to this place when I visit Hilton Head next time.

It’s tough to find a restaurant with good food that can handle two little boys. This one covered both very well. The waitress was very helpful and patient, and took time to suggest changes to our order to better match the kids’ requests. The food was also well prepared and enjoyable. Yes, it is more of a Chinese than Japanese restaurant, but even the Japanese style bento box was tasty.

Good food and good service. They were nice to our kids who were sometimes too loud.

I’m always skeptical about the combo Chinese/Japanese restaurants. You know they are only good at one, yet they throw in the other for shits and giggles. We went here for Chinese. I’m confident that that is their strength because their whiteboard specials were all Chinese dishes and when my brother ordered salmon nigiri(for shits and giggles), the waiter brought him salmon sashimi. To their credit, the salmon was fresh. All in all, Eastern offers up a solid Chinese meal. They had your normal breadth of dishes and the portions were sizable. Favorite dishes included: seafood pan fried noodles, general tsaos, beef & broccoli. Forgettable dishes included: potstickers and mu shu pork. I was pleasantly surprised by their flavors — not overly soy’d, not overly grease’d. I expect my parents will continue to come here on their annual visits to HHI.
