My family goes to Hilton Head for vacation every year and one of the things we look forward to most is the amazing and fresh seafood. Two members of my family are vegetarian, so we thought the Captain Fishy’s and Urban Vegan Café would be a perfect place to go. My father and I split the Captain’s Combo(fish, scallops, shrimp, clam, oysters, and crab) and we ordered it blackened. My mother ordered the crab salad. For the purpose of this review, I will focus on the food ordered from Captain Fishy’s, although I will note that my two vegetarian sisters said that Urban Vegan Café was some of the worst vegan food they had ever had. My combo platter was terrible: the seafood was DROWNED in blackening spice. It was so salty that it was difficult to eat. In addition, one would think that being right on a DOCK in an ISLAND, the seafood would be fresh. Well, at Captain Fishy’s, this is not the case. The clams tasted extremely old and they were deep fried and stale. The«crab» that came with the platter(something I was particularly excited about) was nothing more than a highly filled, over salted crabcake. This was also the case for my mother’s crab salad: two deep fried crabcakes on top of lettuce leaves and a balsamic dressing. The choices for sides are limited and boring. The cornbread served at the beginning of the meal was terrible: extremely salty and dry(I prefer the cornbread at Boston Market). And last but not least, the service was sub par. Our waitress seemed extremely distracted and was very inattentive. My father had to wait 15 minutes for a new beer after he reminded our waitress of his order… twice. My sister finally had to get up and ask another bartender to refill the beer. In short, I do not recommend this restaurant to anybody. You are much better off heading next door the The Black Marlin.

We came here on the recommendation of our charter boat captain. He actually recommended Captain Woody’s, which has moved. We wrongly assumed this was the same place. We were not impressed! Our waiter felt compelled to touch my son’s arm every time he came to our table, which made both me and my son feel awkward. My daughter had the clam chowder and it was bland, flavorless, and watery. The scallops were good enough, but not great. Basically, we left feeling hungry and out $ 50. I would definitely NOT recommend it.

Now in the Former Location of Captain Woody’s at the Palmetto Bay Marina, Captain Fishy’s keeps up Captain Woody’s Reputation for Good Service, and Great Seafood. Plump Juicy Oysters, Fresh Seafood, Great Outdoor and Indoor Seating. Fantastic Drinks all Freshly made. Captain Fishy’s sister restaurant, is the Urban Vegan. This is Great! Your Vegan /Vegetarian Friends can order off the The Urban Vegans Menu, while you can enjoy the Freshest Seafood. For a nice Relaxing time, I suggested getting a Bucket of Oysters and a Freshly Mad Mojito out side under an umbrella! Enjoy, Chef Gary Curry.

Awful food. We came here because most or our party wanted to try the Vegan menu at the same restaurant. When we arrived, we were the only group at the restaurant, which is located next to the Black Marlin, which has an hour wait time. When we left, there was only one other party at this restaurant. I had the clam chowder, which was pasty and only slightly warm. The chef had added cold cut clams to the floury soup as a lump in the middle of my soup bowl, yech! I had the crabcake platter. The crabcakes were full of breadcrumbs, but not much crab but had a very nice remoulade sauce. The coleslaw was good, as were the French fries. I would not return.
