Venue is great! in typical Mcmenamins style. Unfortunately, Leah the bartender has got a bad attitude and it shows. She was cold and confrontational right from the start and made me feel very uncomfortable. Not the way someone wants to feel when visiting one of your fine establishments. Maybe a couple of days off would do her good.

I feel like all of the locations themselves are awesome but the last few years the food quality and price don’t add up… too much for a burger that is only decent

This is a McMenamin establishment and they have live music every night. Tonight they have a bluegrass/jug band that’s pretty doggone good! The food is decent and the service is to, v even on really busy nights. Of course, if you like beer, the McMenamin’s do it well. All of their establishments have free Wi-Fi. They way they decorate their places is not like any other establishments, either. Very casual, very friendly. This is probably my favorite McMenamin’s, too. Close to home and a little out of the way.

Came here on Sunday, the weather was perfect, so we sat outside. Service was kind of slow but they were busy. We placed our orders, server kept checking in with us. When the food arrived out of 3 orders 2 were wrong. Mine was fine and good, I had the Communication Breakdown with garlic tots. Daughter ordered Bacon Cheeseburger with garlic tots, and the makings on the side. It came with a hamburger with the cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion pickles on the side. Who puts the cheese on the side when you order a cheeseburger? She also got plain tots not garlic, they take the burger back ad the cheese and bring her own mixing for the garlic tots. 2nd burger was to be well done, came out medium rare, because we had waited so long for the food, we just had them take it off the bill, and all he got to eat was tots.

Don’t bother with the happy hour they totally up charge you extra. A well drink on the menu for $ 4.25 was billed an extra dollar for cranberry juice

I love the aesthetics here, the country side. The building itself is super cool. The service though… I’ve been here for 35 minutes and all I ordered was a salad and a water. I’ve wasted my entire lunch waiting for food that I won’t be able to eat. Unfortunately I have to get it and ask for it to go. 40 minutes for a salad. C’mon

Definitely not cool. Drove an hour to come here because they said they were dog friendly. Arrive and they say no. Bait and switch?

My husband and I are on a quest to be «cosmic tripsters», so he had to hit up this spot to fill up our passports. It’s kind of out in the middle of nowhere, but totally worth it. I love the vibe of this place. Love music downstairs, shuffle board, pool and TV’s upstairs, lots of wood, very Homey feel. I would return if I was ever in the area again.

I read about the service flaws, but I can say that I did not see ANY of that this evening. Great and attentive service, staff made me feel like I’m a regular and this is my first time! It feels like they have heard and are addressing the service because it’s been great. My Wilbur burger and Cajun tots were great. Beer was excellent as always. My service, Leana, was fantastic. Service was great and I’ll return. I Recommend it here.

I loved coming here, but lately the service has been really bad. I mean, having a backed up kitchen is one excuse(that was used way too much), but no silverware/napkins or drink refills? It took 25 minutes for a pitcher of beer and they weren’t that busy! Not the place I remember :(at least the tots are consistently delicious

I love the feel of this place — thats what one star is for. The other two are for good beer and okay food. Too bad the service sucks so badly, but you know to expect that at McMenamins. It’s why I only come here a couple times a year anymore.

Use to be a good place. Menu changed and food now sucks. Was way better 4 years ago. The service sucks as usual. Only good thing is the cool rustic atmosphere.

I’ve been coming to this place for years now and it’s one of my favorites to relax on a weekend evening. I love the casual atmosphere but despite the location it does get busy. We usually come with the kids for the Sunday evening Irish music. The staff never mind that the kids like to dance to the music and are very kind. Even though it’s a McMenamin’s it doesn’t feel like their other places which can be a little cookie cutter. Come here for a good pint and enjoy the music. Skip the food which is the standard McMenamin’s fare-nothing special but it’s good if you’re hungry. Wish they had better dessert options :)

4 stars only because there’s always Room to improve. Again the people make this place. New server with big glasses and nose ring made special considerations to my menu selections and brought extra cow fudge(sour cream) promptly when asked. What a gal! She also considers me a ‘homie’ which seems to be a good thing… Although I have my own home, so this could be slang. Turns out she’s new, so perhaps there’s some enthusiasm from the excitement of serving unappreciative, wanna be funny, self important patrons but I suspect it’s simply her nature. Thank you high def nose ring server, thank you. Rose the hunger conquerer… My wife says you are adorable.

Ambiance, Super-Manager Val, ambiance, awesome staff, ambiance. Need I say more? Perhaps. Here goes. My significant other and I met in person for the first time four years ago at this amazing venue tucked in to the forest and farm country in the northwest corner of Portland. We love everything about this neighborhood, this place and the people here so much that we bought a house in the neighborhood just so we could live nearby. The 5 stars are for the wonderful bartenders & servers(special shouts to Jamie, Beverly, Shae, Chantel, and Leana) artists, interior and lighting designers, fire-makers, and off-the-hook-amazing musicians that make this one of our favorite places on Earth to meet with friends and revitalize our souls. To be surrounded by quirky and imaginative paintings calling back to the history of this hippy community gathering place, mushroom lamps, and the soothing amber glow of antique light fixtures and the ever-burning logs in the fireplace buoy our spirits and remind us of how good people and life can be.

Good food… same slow McMens service. ;-) Fun rustic setting. It’s on my list of places to go for live music… one day. Love the simplicity and vintage settings that McMens puts together. Always plenty of stuff to look at while you wait a decade for your delicious food to arrive.

This is my favorite McMenamin’s location. I love to come here alone, read a book, and sip on a Ruby. The building itself, landscaping, art, and general ambiance is very cool, like a cozy log cabin. Sorry I just used the word cozy, I hate that word, but this place just is! They always have a fire going inside, and near the outside seating area, so there’s always a wood smoke smell, which sometimes bugs me but for the most part I dig. The food is really nothing special, it’s usually good. Their happy hour menu is pretty legit, my last visit I had a caeser salad, tots, and a beer and got out for less than $ 15.

Went there for lunch today w/my mom and aunt. Menu looked ok. After waiting a bit our waitress told us the special soup today was clam chowder, then left. 5 min later she came to take our order, 3 clam chowders. At least 6 min later she came back to tell us there was no more clam chowder. Oh, but I can give you a sample of our turkey/bacon/potato soup. Took for ever to get the soup samples and they were cold. By then I was so irritated! We ordered the turkey soup cuz we were all hungry, it was ok, no big deal. That was the SLOWEST service ever!!! Portland seems pretty cool, but next time I come to visit my aunt I will pass on eating at McMenamins Rockcreek Tavern. Only 2 stars do to the extremely slow service Also, fixtures inside were cool, but it was to dark and I didn’t like the smell of fireplace smoke inside while I was eating my soup.

On my McMenamins Portland West Side passport quest, I actually hit all five properties in one day. Three of these locations(Cedar Hills Pub, Murray & Allen Pub and Oak Hills Pub) are one-and-done visits. The other two are special. I’ve been visiting Cornelius Pass Roadhouse for years and know it well, but if I’m in the area, it would be hard to pass up Rock Creek Tavern. McMenamins(in my mind) has two types of locations: neighborhood pubs typically located in strip malls that have little charm and large properties that are worth exploring. Rock Creek Tavern is actually something different and exceeded my expectations. As a bit of a country girl, I love the feeling that you are a million miles away, yet only a few minutes from I-26. The building feels like a roadhouse and biker bar with the McMenamins eclectic art and furnishings thrown in. On a warm evening, this location has some great outdoor spaces and there is live music every night(I was there for Bluegrass Tuesday). While it feels like it’s been here forever, the structure was actually re-built with historic wood from local barns in 2002 after a fire destroyed the original building. Eating my free Communication Breakdown burger with sweet potato fries served with chipotle mayo dipping sauce(thanks to the passport prize!) and sipping hard cider by the fire pit with live music was a sweet escape. The server was nice, but there were long waits for myself and the tables around me during the evening. Good thing I wasn’t in a rush. A+ for the property. I loved everything from the soaring wood ceiling, to the ivy covered fireplace, upstairs there is a covered back porch, a pool table and 22′ shuffleboard under an enormous mushroom lamp and I was grooving to the outlaw vibe of the location. You can even see the bomb crater from the Beer War of 1935 off the front porch: - McMenamins did such a great job here of blending old and new with lots of tucked away spaces and charming touches.
