American Air is a price gouging company. A technician came to my home to repair my furnace on March 25, 2015. The diagnostic fee was $ 99.00 which I had no problem with. The problem was diagnosed as a bad heat sensor. The technician said that the heat sensor was an $ 8.00 part, would take 10 minutes to install and the heat sensor was still under warranty. The technician then quoted a total price of $ 350.00 for the diagnostic fee, the $ 8.00 heat sensor and the 10 minutes of labor. The $ 350.00 price was declined, the $ 99.00 diagnostic fee was paid and the technician left. The $ 350.00 price calculates to $ 251.00 for an $ 8.00 part an 10 minutes of labor. That is price gouging and illegal in the state of Ohio. American Air is in contact with all types of people. Many of them are the elderly, the infirm and the underprivileged. They are the last people that should be exposed to price gouging. The price gouging by American Air has been reported to the Better Business Bureau, the media and the Ohio Attorney General. American Air is a disgrace to their industry. The company should be ordered to reimburse all of the people they have over charged, fined, put out of business and the owners should be incarcerated.

Although I’ve used American Air on about ten different occasions, I never experienced a time when the service was exceptional or made me feel like they were my go-to call. After a particularly bad experience on March 9, 2015, I submitted this feedback via their website form. It is now April 3 and I have not received a response. At the urging of an email campaign to write a review, I think my original note and the lack of response say it all: ### I just wanted to let you know that I just had some absolutely terrible service. As a customer who has spent thousands of dollars with your company, I feel like I just COMPLETELY wasted $ 99 and was nearly ripped off for more. I requested someone come out to check a faucet that wouldn’t stop spinning and a leaky stem on the same faucet. After initially claiming he couldn’t diagnose the problem with the handle because the screw was stripped, he eventually was able to get it off after I had to ask to keep trying. The screw wasn’t stripped in the slightest. After diagnosing the issue as stripped«grippers» on the inside of the faucet, I asked to see the other faucet handle, just as a comparison. After about 15 seconds of trying to get that handle off he gave up(this one was due to corrosion, not a stripped screw). He was unable to unscrew the faucet head on the piece with the leaky stem without direction. Was unable to identify the type of faucet when asked. And then said it would be $ 225 to replace the gasket on the main stem. When I questioned the price, he confirmed and then later backed off to say he’d have to go check his pricing. When he came back in, he showed me a price of $ 157. I asked he stop any further«repairs» and he left after taking my credit card information. On the 11-word work description, there were three spelling errors. I would like a refund on this service call and suggest you review the quality of this service technician. This is in regards to invoice #xxxxxx. Sincerely, JP xxxxxxx xxx-xxx-xxxx ###

I came home from work to find that the fan on my AC unit was not working, and to top it off it was the first really hot(90+) day of the year. There was a sticker on my furnace with American’s number on it, which was there from the previous owner, so I immediately called them. I reached their voicemail, which sent me to their after hours emergency mailbox. I was instructed to leave a message, and someone would get back to me within an hour. I did so and waited. And waited. And waited some more. Normally this wouldn’t have been such a big deal, but I knew that the next day was going to be just as hot and I have a dog that is dying of bone cancer, so I didn’t want make him any more uncomfortable than he already was. After waiting for three hours, I tried another company. They got me scheduled for the mid-morning, got here when they said they would and resolved the problem at a very reasonable price. And almost a day later, STILL no call from American. Maybe the previous owners had success with them, but if I were relying solely on them to fix the issue, both my dog and I would still be miserable from the heat.
