Tacos Express & Deli

This is the best Mexican place in Monroe-​Woodbury. My wife and I order food from Taco Express all the time. My favorite food here are the enchiladas. I also like the tacos and the tostadas.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from something named «Taco Express & Deli» but I was thrilled with the discovery of this gem! Excellent, excellent Mexican food! I’m so glad I found this spot! Their black bean soup among other this spectacular. My husband and I are now making our way through the menu ordering different things.

Been in the area for a while and decided to try somewhere else so we came here. Looks like a hole in the wall but it is really good. Very fresh and the service is good. We got takeout, but it would probably be better to eat in the place so things don’t get soggy.

I’ve tried many a Mexican restaurant in nyc, and I’ve been disappointed every time. I almost gave up to the idea that nyc just doesn’t do Mexican food. Many try to pass of poor examples of Mexican flavors that don’t cut it.
This place however does. Every time I’m in the area I have to get a taste of home. We’re from California where Mexican food is abundant and delicious. The beans and rice are full of flavor, the salsa is deep and robust. And the tacos are what I remember.

Yummy food. Awesome authentic atmosphere. Great owners. Everything you imagine from a small authentic spot. Out shines many similar places in new York City and long island.

Authentic Mexican food, the place does not look as fancy as other restaurants. But do not let looks turn you off to this gem. Great food and good service.

Love it! Everything I have gotten so far has been a great experience! My personal favorite are the enchiladas w poblano mole, omg… Really really spot on perfect. I went one day because I was lazy and didn’t realize the magic I had right down the street, thank God I took a chance, I go at least once a week, and it’s affordable too! It’s nice to see people put out an elevated product for a working mans price. Many years of success to you!

BLUF: The most authentic Mexican food I have found in Orange. A must go to, hole in the wall spot.
My friends and I were near Woodbury Commons when we decided to find a new restaurant to try. I quickly whipped out Unilocal and Tacos Express & Deli was one of the top rated restaurants to pop up. After I told my buddies the name of the restaurant, they were skeptical because it honestly does sound nothing better than a cheap Taco Bell. But I had faith in my fellow Unilocalers and the 4.5 star rating coupled with a single $ make me fight for us to go. Finally, my friends relented and eventually they were quite happy that they did.
As soon as I set my eyes on Tacos Express, I knew we had found a hole in the wall gem. The ‘restaurant’ is the first floor of a house with half of it being a Mexican mart. The other half had an assortment of tables and cultural murals across the wall. There was a small TV playing soccer in Spanish and not a single beat of salsa music was heard. Also, there must have been a family upstairs as we heard the patter of several children running around which gave us a chuckle. It was Saturday evening around 6PM and we were the only customers there, which was nice.
Alrighty, to the food since that’s what everyone is waiting for. I read that their tortillas were extremely fresh so I decided to go for a chimichanga with carne asada. The food came out reasonably quickly and in perfect quantity. My meal came with three chimichangas and a side of rice and beans.
Man, this was some of the best Mex I’ve had in a while. The toritillas were fried to quality flakiness and the steak pieces were thick and juicy. The sour cream that was laid on top of the chimichangas seemed to just melt and blend in with the fresh guacamole.
In total, the entire meal cost me $ 15 including a drink and a tip. Definitely recommend Tacos Express & Deli to anyone looking to try some good Mexican food at a place with a wide range of choices.

I’ll add this to my growing body of evidence that every good outlet mall has an authentic Mexican taqueria within a 5 minute drive.
It’s cozy, authentic, and very reasonably priced.
I had the chicken torts. Breaded chicken served on a toasted roll, mayo, lettuce, and avocado. Good, but I’ve been spoiled by a life changing torta during our trip to Monterey, CA and nothing has seem to come close since then. I would have liked it if the avocado had been spread thinly instead of slices as the sandwich fell apart mid-​bite. My husband had the steak tacos and spicy meat sope. The tacos, authentic and savory. The sope spicy indeed and generously portioned.
Makes for a nice detour from the Woodbury Outlet Mall next time you’re in the area — stop by!

This place is amazing!!! I will be coming back! We had tacos — lengua, pollo, asada, chorizo. Try the quesadillas! The tortillas are freshly hand made! All of them were amazing!

Amazingly delicious! Fresh chips & salsa while we waited for our dinner. Delicious entrees all for the reasonable prices! We spent much of our time mmmm-​ing, sighing with satisfaction, and smiling. Service was pleasent.

Food was delicious! Real authentic Mexican food. The place doesn’t look like much on the outside but the food speaks for itself! Definitely plan to come back again.

This place is the best. We came for lunch and tried lots of different things, all of it delicious! The tacos were next level, I love that they give you’ve fresh hot sauce with your order. The service was really quick and very nice. I definitely recommend trying this place if you’re in the area.

Critical Review
Beautiful atmosphere with detail and lighting.
Servers seem busy but are polite, as if you were entering their home.
The food is decent. It could use more flavor.
Prices are low the average dish.

Ok, I have to admit. This place looks completely sketch and a little in shambles on the outside. It was not my idea of the kind of place I wanted to go on a lunch date with my husband, HOWEVER, once I got over the awkward silence inside the «restaurant» (a side room next to a convenience store) because no music was playing and we were the only ones in there and we got our food, I found it to be fresh and quite good. I would compare it to the Mexican food we ate in San Diego. They use soft corn tortillas, not flour, and the fillings for my chicken soft tacos were simply: chicken, onion and cilantro.
The chicken was dry to me and I could not eat a bite of my taco without washing it down with my drink. I personally don’t care for refried beans so even though I tried them, I can’t say if they were good or not. The rice was very good.
We asked for chips and salsa even though it wasn’t on the menu and the chips tasted homemade, but the salsa seemed to be jarred salsa to me with added cilantro. It didn’t have that fresh tomato flavor I’m used to with fresh salsas.
Over all – you will get a warm, tasty, more authentic tex mex meal here, but it’s not the kind of place you’d go on a date.

One word: DELICIOUS. Found this restaurant on Unilocal & decided to give it a try. We started with the chips & salsa. The chips were authentic & hot off the fryer. The salsa was freshly made. We ordered the taco platter and made a minor change. Instead of the hard tacos we changed it to the corn tortilla with steak with cilantro & lime. The platter came with yellow rice & refried beans. These steak tacos are probably the best steak tacos I’ve ever had. The rice & beans were also tasty. I’m so happy I decided to give this place a shot.

Just finish eating at this place. Amazing food. Love everything. Washroom could be cleaner but the food was top notch
