I recently went here for my hair trial with the stylist, Kristin. She was very nice. She made me feel very comfortable & listened to what I liked & disliked. She managed to do a style that I really liked which was probably not easy considering I didn’t really know exactly what I wanted going in. Thankfully she was able to nail the look I was going for after I showed her a few pictures of looks that I liked. She did 2 different styles so I could see another option that I was considering which was really helpful. Afterwards, she took a few photos of my hair so I could see the back and we discussed any adjustments I’d potentially want on the big day. The salon itself was nice and clean. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I’d definitely recommend this place and Kristin.

So I just had my wedding this past weekend. I just wanted to tell all the brides out there, you do NOT need to get your hair and make up done professionally on your wedding day. Only if you have the money to, then do so. If not, I could of done the work myself and not have spent a fortune like I did here. This place is nice, the salon is in a small area not too far from my house. When I first contacted the salon, a nice receptionist picked up. She told me that for brides, we need to do a trial run. It’s $ 50 for hair, and $ 45 for make up. I’ve never done air brushing, so I said I wanted to do that, which was $ 65 to do. So I tried it, and both my hair and make up came out beautiful. Exactly the way I wanted it. I did not wash my hair so they washed it for me, which was another $ 35 just to wash my hair. And adding eyelashes was an extra $ 10. All in all, I spent $ 140 on just the trial alone. My mom got her hair done during the trial, and she did NOT like her hair at all. The girl who did my mom’s hair tried really hard but did not listen to her and just did not do a good job. My mom was even debating about doing it on my wedding day there. Anyways, myself, and my bridesmaids were getting our hair done, and my mom on my wedding day. Some were getting make up done, and I was getting air brush done. On the day of my wedding it poured badly, after the girl did my hair she sprayed SO much hair spray in it because she said she did not want it to fall down. In this case, it was weighing my hair down and my hair did not last the whole night. It did not even last until the cocktail hour. All in all, my hair was a 7 out of 10. On the day of my trial, it was a perfect 10. For some reason it didn’t look as good. And my make up was wonderful. I brought my own fake eyelashes and the professional applied them. I thought the girl, Tailor, did a really good job or making me look natural and absolutely beautiful. I loved the feeling of getting air brushing and thought it would look amazing in photos, which it did. My sister also got her make up done and she absolutely loved it. Tailor listened to our every need and I’m glad she did our make up, very happy with her work 10 out of 10 for both the trial and day of. They had a time limit, to get us out in 2 hours, and the salon did its job. I was out, yet one of my bridesmaids still needed to get her hair done, so she stayed back. My mom wanted extensions and she brought them in. The stylist said she could not use them because they were yak hair and not human hair. My mom almost cried, I was so upset. This was strike 2 for them with her. I said try lowering the heat and just curl it, and the stylist was like oh, it actually worked! I was shocked at how little she wanted to try it out. If the hair did damage, I said it wasn’t an issue so there was no reason not to try it. I had to basically force her to. One of My bridesmaids is African, and her extensions were in her head. She sat under the machine for a good 30 mins, and the stylist tried to curl her hair. After spending $ 70 on her hair, the hair looked horrible! No curls, not any body. Needless to say my bridesmaid was MAD, but after the wedding she got a full refund thank god. My sister said during the trial, her hair was a perfect 10 out of 10. But on my wedding day, it was a 6 out of 10, the stylist kept spraying more and more hair spray, weighing the hair down. One of my friends actually had to redo her hair because she did not like it. On the day of my wedding, I gave a $ 100 deposit a few weeks back, and I ended up spending $ 60, don’t know how, but I did. And also, I gave a $ 20 tip, so I ended up spending $ 180 on the actual day of, including the $ 100 deposit. Salon on the Hudson did a good job, a bride is not supposed to worry about hair and make up on their wedding day. They’re supposed to have someone take care of them and do the job to make them look and feel beautiful. After going through this experience and paying all that money, I think I could of done WITHOUT the Salon. One of my friends could of curled my hair and I could of done my own make up, sprayed the set in spray and been just as good without spending the massive amount of money. I just want to tell the brides out there that, this is an option. I thought all brides«HAD» to get their make up and hair done professionally. But no, you don’t HAVE to get it done. At the end of the day, Salon on Hudson gets a 3 out of 5 for their overall performance, experience, and execution. However, if I were to be in a wedding or talking to other brides, if I would of known to do my own hair/makeup I would of.

I was looking for a stylist near my wedding venue and am so, so thankful I found Salon on the Hudson. Alison, Kristin and Chrissy came to the venue before the ceremony and did hair and makeup for the entire bridal party; they knocked it out of the park! We got so many compliments, and their warmth and friendliness really helped calm my nerves on a hectic morning. I would absolutely recommend Salon on the Hudson to anyone, whether they needed a new haircut or to have their wedding party done up right for the big day.

So far, so good — here’s why: I booked a bridal appointment for my wedding and recently visited for a trial hair and make-up styling. Krystal styled my hair, and Becky did my make-up. Hair: I felt as though Krystal mostly understood what I was going for, and I am confident I will love my wedding day hair styling. I am a little worried about the hair holding, as the bobby pins and some hair came loose later that evening. However, I am sure that is due to the multiple styles she did(left it loose so it wouldn’t take forever to deconstruct). Make-Up: Becky was extremely fast and efficient with make-up. I found it odd that she didn’t wipe off all of my make-up before starting hers, however. Overall, she did exactly the styling that I know will photograph well. My false eyelashes weren’t placed too well, so that is my only critique. I liked her color palettes and her suggestions about color combinations based on the very vague look I said the groom wanted(«natural»). Price: I thought the price for the hair trial was fair, but I think the make-up trial price was too high(it was maybe 15−20min of time). I’m looking forward to my actual wedding styling.

So I was looking for hair stylist closest to my venue for multiple reasons… Anyway, I took and chance and I’m glad I did. I called them up, explained the situation, inquired if the hairstyle i wanted is something they can do, and made an appt. I got there about 10m before my appt and was greeted by some lovely ladies. The salon is nice and pretty much a 1 shop stop. Nails, Hair, and I believe waxing… It wasn’t busy or crazy… Very organized and clean! It was really calm and only worked by appts, which I totally loved! Anyway, I met w/Kristie(if my memory serves me correctly) and I showed her style and she went to town. She did exactly what I wanted… and it looked good with my veil. I’ve booked her for the wedding day yay! and only a few minor adjustments are needed the day of… Satisfied and VERY happy I went outside my borough!

Salon on the Hudson did an amazing job for my wedding day — they accommodated my large bridal party(including eight bridesmaids, two mother’s, and two flower girls) for both hair and make-up, and everyone looked absolutely gorgeous. Krystal, the owner, made my hair look just like the picture I showed her, which couldn’t have been an easy task considering my hair is thin and flat. We had a great time at the salon the morning of the wedding and it was a completely stress-free experience for me. I highly recommend Salon on the Hudson’s professional services!
