So sad that our favorite community Chinese restaurant is closed now. We have been going there for 13 years. Thank you for the great food! We will miss you!

Have been living in the area for about 25 years and this place still has the tastiest Chinese food in the area. Have pretty much tried every place around and nothing beats it. My fav dish definitely has to be the kung pao chicken, goes great with the fried rice or regular white rice. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for good Chinese food

Food was decent, but I agree with everyone else about the tiny portion sizes. Got $ 30 worth of food thinking it’d last at least a day or two but there was barely enough for one sitting, and I don’t really eat all that much. Will not go back.

I usually get the BBQ pork lo mein, pan fried meat dumplings, and occasionally the fried wontons, and I love it so incredibly much. It’s one of my favorite Chinese places to go to! I recently found out that they’re closing permanently after 25 years on Sunday, April 24, 2016. I’ve been eating here for most of my life, and I’ll be so sad to see them go. Get while the getting’s good!

I have driven by this restaurant for 14 yrs. was running errands and thought maybe we could grab some soup. I usually rate a Chinese place by there soup and egg rolls. if that is not good then i wont waste my time going back. when we parked i asked a young man if he had eaten there b4. he said yes and that the food was ok. So w/that being said we headed in. Well now i know why i have been driving by for 14 yrs and never went in. i paid 6.63 for a ½ filled small container of soup that was not from scratch. It tasted like can chicken broth. The lady asked me if i wanted crispy noodles for my soup and i asked her is it xtra for that, and she said yes it cost extra. I kindly replied no, i usually get it included w/my soups else where. The egg rolls were ok. Nothing to write home about. It is so sad that unless you go to DC for Chinese food, you just cant find any good Asian food on this side of the map. Unless you go to china king. There prices are always good and the food is palatable.

Stopped here for some takeout on a Sat lunchtime. Place was completely dead. I ordered a lunch portion sized«Dragon and Phoenix»(chicken/shrimp with veg) and just 6 plain soup wontons. It was really overpriced $ 15+ and probably came out to a dollar for each soup wonton! When I got home, I was really disappointed that they forgot to add the shrimp. Food quality was average but not great. I called up and told them I paid a lot for a small amount of food and minus the shrimp. At least they were nice enough to take it off my bill. I wouldn’t come here again though.

I love this place, real authentic Chinese food what more can you ask for. I usually get the kung pao chicken and it’s delicious. Keep up the good work guys. They also serve veggie steamed dumplings unlike other Chinese restaurants which only serve pork dumplings. At the end of your meal, they give you a little piece of orange ice cream which is so good. If you’re looking for real Chinese food, look no further, this place has it all. The waiters and managers are real nice and they seat you right away once you come in. Best Chinese restaurant in Nova. Unfortunately now it’s out of business. I’m going to miss this place even though I didnt go here that much the food still was good. Thanks for great food and service Shiang Yu you will be missed.

Had the kungpao chicken lunch special. Pretty good but I like it more spicy. Service could be better…

Food was okay. If you want something that tastes better then try somewhere else. I went to Shiang Yu a couple times, just to make sure it wasn’t just a fluke the first time, however it just seems like the best they can do is mediocre. The service is moderate to slow. It takes them some time to seat us, and then to get us the menus and drinks. Food is somewhat slow to come out and when it does, it was barely warm. Maybe it could be the lack of employees or persistence to care for service, but that just tears it all apart. The food was okay. Just have to repeat. It was just okay. If it was still hot, I might be able to give it an extra star. Overall, if you are just hungry and need something to eat, try something else in that location like Bön Chon or the Subway. This place is just below average.

Went for buffet. Barely any food. Very slow at replenishing. Restaurant is freezing cold. Quality of food is quite poor.

I’m only giving this 1 star for delivering within the window and having a friendly deliverer. The food was a disaster. Their house fried rice was salty and not flavorful. The beef in it was shriveled and chewy. The sesame chicken was overly sweet and tasted nothing like sesame. It also tasted like the chicken itself had turned too. The beef chow fun was completely bland. Bland?, you say, But it has all of that sauce and the vegetables and the beef! Yes, this chow fun had ZERO flavor. Ordered 50-some-odd dollars worth of food and the only things that were edible were the egg rolls(barely) and the fortune cookies. Never going back again.

Been going here for years. I find there food to be fresh. Vegetables are cooked well. Not at all greasy. Owners and staff are very nice! I eat a lot of Chinese. Been to many places and this one is a good one!

We tried Shiang Yu Restaurant for the first time 12 years ago when we first moved out to Virginia. We came from Northern California where Chinese food is abundant, fresh and tasty. I was not expecting the Chinese food here in Virginia it to be like what we get on the West coast but I was expecting it to be halfway decent. The majority of dishes at Shiang Yu tasted salty with no complex, flavors the vegetables were not in abundance and what little vegetables there were in the dishes were overcooked and limp. We will give most restaurants three chances. A few years later we stop in for the buffet. Shiang Yu was a ghost town, the buffet was old and cold. Our third try was take out tonight. We ordered 50 dollars worth of food took a few bites of each dish then threw our entire dinner in the trash. If I was starving on a desert Island I would eat this food but I’m not. If I could give them minus 5 stars I would.

Finally a cheap and appetizing Chinese restaurant in the Chantilly/Fairfax area. Of course it’s not the best but it’s pretty good. After reading mixed reviews, I was hestitant to come here but I’m glad I tried it today. I freaked out a bit when I walked in at 2 pm and it was totally dead. I thought this was a sign that maybe I shouldn’t have ordered here. It must be really boring though, because the lady at the register was watching Chinese movies. The décor is dark, it looks outdated. It was a bit scary walking in, not sure if I could sit there and eat in the dark. I decided on the wonton soup, mongolian beef and broccoli with garlic sauce — all lunch combos. The wonton soup was lacking in the wonton part. The wonton wasn’t sticking together, it looked like they have half assed it and didn’t even finish closing it together so it was falling apart. The broth was good, a bit oily. The mongolian beef was delicious, it came with sauteed onions which had a nice sauce to it. The beef wasn’t chewy at all. The broccoli was good also, the sauce was tasty and flavorful. The lunch combos are cheap, its anywhere from $ 6-$ 8 and it comes with rice. They also have a lunch buffet from 11 – 2; monday through friday for about $ 8. Overall, good experience for take out. Food was good and reasonably priced. I will have to try the buffet out and see how decent it is.

It’s Saturday night and nobody feels like cooking. There’s a request for Chinese and we decide to try someplace new. The reviews for this place were pretty decent so we headed out. To start, we all(my mom, my boyfriend, and myself) got spring rolls. These were good, didn’t blow me away. The ones at our usual place are better(and bigger). For dinner, I got my usual, Chicken Lo Mein(but I’m determined to find a place where this dish knocks my socks off). It was good, a nice and rich flavor. The flavor is richer than our usual place, but you get a lot less for more money. My boyfriend got General Tso’s chicken and that was good. The chicken was moist and tender with a nice crisp batter. The sauce was not as spicy as other places we’ve tried. It had a rather rich and almost garlicy flavor. Don’t mistake this for a bad thing, in our house, there is no such thing as too much garlic. Definitely not a let down. We also got an order of chicken fried rice to share. Had a lot of vegetables(our regular place doesn’t put any in theirs) but lacked the egg I love having in fried rice. But it was good nonetheless. We had an overall good experience here. We came in on a Saturday night and were only 3 of maybe 5 people there(though more came in as we ate). We did notice that this place seemed like a very popular take-out place over a sit-and-eat place.

Friendly staff and good food at this spot. They also have a cheap buffet that I didn’t try. Ordered off the menu and everything was cooked to order, fresh ingredients and tasty. Was pleasantly surprised.

My personal favorite! The staff and owner here are so very nice. The little cute old man that we used to always get is no longer here(I haven’t seen him). There is one new person that always asks if we want sodas though, even though we get the same thing every time(water and hot tea). I understand that though, probably a habit. The hot tea is addictive! The service is quick too. Must gets: –shredded pork or beef with string bean — crispy beans with perfectly salted meat –combination pan fried noodles — perfectly crispy noodles with shrimp, beef, chicken, and veggies in a dark sauce –sesame chicken — enough said. so good. –beef chow fun(you have to ask for it) — thick rice noodles with beef and a thick-ish dark sauce –wonton and/or hot and sour soup — they have bits of char siu(roast pork) at the bottom of the wonton soup — those are the nuggets! You get very good orange sherbet at the end of your meal: D It probably helps that my dad is Chinese and my sister speaks it. I love this place — you must go! Ps. There is buffet on weekends — it’s okay and sometimes they are slow to refill it, but their food is so good.
