I’m familiar with communal hackspaces in LA and the Bay Area, but never expected to find one in Vegas. I got a brief tour of the shop in conjunction with a planning meeting for the Las Vegas Science & Tech Festival. A great way to check out the space is through their events and classes, many of which are open to non-members and any fees are very reasonable. Events/classes range from security hack sessions to lock picking to open craft nights. Equipment-wise they have an e-shop, 3D printers, CNC router, sewing machine, and carpentry shop. The other nice thing is that their shop hours caters to people with M-F, 9 – 5 work schedules.

I went here for a field trip for my entrepreneurship class and I was very impressed by the space. They offer a lot of different machines that users can take advantage of. I am excited to try it out and see what we can create!

Thanks to Brian and the rest of the gang at Syn Shop. I contacted them to visit with a group of educators, artists, mathematicians, scientists, and techies. They were completely welcoming and INSPIRING! From arts & crafts to programming and woodworking, this diverse group of makers share a collaborative spirit and a drive to explore and innovate.

I LOVE this place! It’s like Disneyland for tinkerers. As you’re driving down North 4th street in downtown Las Vegas, you’ll find this little storefront right next to Nacho Daddy. SYN shop is where a lot of meetings take place for people within the Las Vegas community who are interested in making and repairing things, anything ranging from fixing a broken vending machine and converting it into a machine with an online paying platform, to building PCs and making metal widgets, to woodworking projects, 3-D printing with plastic and powder-based materials, building robots, sewing, crafting, electronic projects; anything your heart ever so desired but you weren’t able to find the space and tools, you can do it here! Volunteers-run and backed by the Downtown Project people, anyone can become a member and start using this place right away. The membership is a bit costly, at $ 40/month, but you’re free to use all of the equipments and tools here and you’re also getting a lot of support and mentorship from veteran members who have a ton of experience in various areas! They also have many classes being offered to community members like 3-D printing, soldering projects, etc. It’s never too late to pick up a hobby and 3-D printing is just so much fun not to try!
