Stopped here for lunch before tubing with 2 friends on a Friday afternoon. We decided to eat inside since it was so hot and we just got done hiking. We were seated right away. Our server came after waiting for about 5 mins to be served, so we already knew what we were getting. I ordered the sweet Thai chicken wrap and asked if I could replace the chips with fries. Our server said yes but it is a $ 2 charge so I said no problem. My friend ordered a burger and the other one ordered a salad. When the food came out, we had a new server and my meal came with the chips not the fries. So I told our new server politely if he could make sure I don’t get charged for fries since I never got them. He said ok and came back with the check. He was kind of rude but oh well, we wanted to just leave quickly. Overall an ok restaurant. The wrap was good, not anything special. Would maybe eat here again but sit outside to enjoy the river view and probably ordered an appetizer not an entrée.

We should have listened to the reviews. Do not make the same mistake we did and eat here. The restaurant was so bad we made a list while we were sitting and waiting(forever) for our food. They charged us for water. They charged my daughters meal for having french fries when that’s all they offered her. Terribly slow service, and there was probably maximum of 5 tables occupied. Also terribly expensive for less than average food, I mean $ 12 for a basic sandwich and chips? That’s ridiculous. It was freezing in the restaurant, but I guess if you enjoy it being 50 some degrees while you eat than that’s a plus. And finally we found it quite funny how they tried to sell us their«souvenir» mug when it was merely a cheap, plastic mug. Oh, and, really fails at the whole German thing. Then again we lived in Germany, but almost seemed like a joke at how inauthentic it was.

The Troll Tavern is, for the Helen uninitiated, a tavern by the river with an angle on German cuisine(like every other restaurant in Helen). I went there once with my friends and my cousin because we had returned from a baseball lesson and were feeling hungry. We were originally going to Café International, but it was 8:30 and they were closed, even though there were still customers eating. So, we went next door to(where else?) the Troll Tavern. We ordered the pretzels for an appetizer and they were pretty good. However, the chicken tenders I got for my meal were like tender-shaped chicken pads. My friend liked whatever kind of wiener she got and we left the place feeling full. I’d say this place was ok at the very least.

Nice location right by river. However we had about a thousand flies swarming us as we sat and ate. Food was not horrible but not good. Burgers were frozen patties. Fries served cold. Reuben just fair, far from German food. Music was too loud. Food was way overpriced. Service was good waitresses attentive. Bathroom was sketchy. Dark and unkept. Would not go back.

The view and outside seating are excellent and the service was great. The food was however frozen food from the freezer section at the grocery store with a price tag of $ 12-$ 20. I would stick to appetizers and drinks if I were to go back with friends to keep the price of my food closer to the quality.

Way over priced for the quality of food. I ordered the fish and chips with a price tag of $ 18, thinking they would be hand battered or fresh. When my plate came out to my surprise, they were 2 frozen fish filets, the kind that you get from the grocery store for $ 5. Don’t waste your time or money on the food here. At that price point you would expect fresh food, not frozen! Service was great, that’s the only plus.

The food was horrid. My philly cheesesteak was not edible. I couldn’t even eat the old flaky roll. I didn’t send it back because I was in a party of 7 and you never know how a kitchen will react to that. Very overpriced $ 13 for a terrible sandwich. Cider beers are in bottles and they only had 2 on the menu. Not a terrible selection of beers but not vast either. Server was nice but extremely slow especially with food. Alcohol came pretty quickly.

Let me start by saying the Reuben was actually quite delicious. The scenery on the river is great. The service was pretty good as well. However. They served us some pretty stale chips. We inquired about getting some fresher ones but the server eventually told us, yeah they were from yesterday but it’s all we have.(Not a big deal but I thought he might at least take it off the check.) Drinks seemed a bit over priced but that’s what you get for ordering lemon drops at a tourist trap.(I loved the dirty colada but at 10 dollars couldve had a little more booze in it.) Overall it was an OK experience but for the price. I was a little disappointed. One of the other person’s with us had their burger served to them a bit cold.

The troll tavern was an amazing conclusion to a wonderful day I already had hiking with friends in the mountains around Helen, GA. The service was friendly and pretty quick, which is great because we were all starving after hiking all day. They had a decent beer selection. The food selection is what you expect for a sports bar. I ordered wings which were delicious and very saucy which I like :-) the view is just perfect since you sit on the water and you are right in the middle of town. Perfect restaurant especially for visitors that like a nice view on a beautiful day while sippin on a cold nice brew and wanna eat typical bar food.

Good food, great setting, but hidden fees. The Combo Wurst platter was very good, but we were charged a split fee in addition to the already high $ 13 menu price. Also, our server failed to mention that the drinks that were ordered at our table were not part of the special we were inclined to believe. Make sure you ask alot of questions about what you’re being charged for, so you’re not surprised when your check comes.

The food was great. The over all service was awesome and very speedy. Everyone was nice and made sure that we were satisfied with our food. The drinks are on point and get you where you want to be while looking at a beautiful scenary of the bridge.

Welcome to beautiful Helen, Georgia. With it «Alpine» look! The Troll Tavern is a huge eating establishment situated on the banks of the Chattahoochee river(or fast moving stream, as it may be). This is a «bar and grill» type menu with a god variety of tasty delights — with a German cuisine angle. They have brats and knocks and other things. It really is a nice place to have food and beer next to the river. I think you might like it.

Cute place by the river if you can get outdoor seating. The food wasn’t that good. I tried loaded fries($ 7, fried with melted mozzarella & bacon bits; not great) and had a beer(not notable) at the bar. The place is busy and there are plenty of people there. But there is only one toilet per gender for the entire place. Both were pretty disgusting from heavy use.

Beer good & cold. Nice to sit out by the river & have a drink but would probably skip food. Pretzel & cheese was good. Fries were hard & old & chicken fingers below average. Friendly server, Blake.

I was wondering around the square area on a Tuesday night while trying to find a good beer and a brat… along comes The Troll Tavern just in time. Tucked under the bridge, located directly on the hooch with an amazing outdoor seating area coupled with extensive indoor seating combined with a pool/dart area. I was alone and wanted to belly up to a bar, so I ended up inside. Their menu has a even mix of offerings, but I was interested in the German fare. I quickly honed in on the Bratwurst platter and placed my order quickly. Once the important part was done, I gave the bartender full reign of my drink order and he did well. He served me a locally brewed beer that was great on its own and even better with the brat, kraut and potatoes. I was there for a while and it started to near closing time, a time that most bartenders would start to be short with and skooch their patrons out the door… however this bartender was more talkative, entertaining and welcoming as the night went on. Its a rarity that you really feel welcome in a bar setting, but this guy made it happen. I had to go with 5 stars here, as there was nothing that detracted from my night outside of the time it took to find the place. I will be back in the area in September and you best believe that Troll Tavern is on the schedule.

We stopped here for lunch before leaving town. We were seated by the river so we could enjoy the tubers and river. I had a Philly burger no bun with the biggest loaded potato I’ve ever had and cold slaw. The services was friendly and fast. We didn’t have to wait overly long for our food or ask more then once for extra plates or napkins. The menu was over priced and nothing special but it was nice being in the shade.

This is a cool place to get some drinks and/or food while enjoying a great view of the Chattahoochee. We started off with beer and cocktails and ended up deciding to eat here. The drinks and service were great, and the food ended up being pretty good, too. What we ordered: Pretzel Appetizer($ 4) Bratwurst Platter($ 13) Knockwurst Platter($ 13) Buffalo Tenders Appetizer($ 10) You can get one pretzel for $ 4 or two for $ 7. Comes with honey mustard or cheese, we just got both. Tastes fine, just like what you would expect a pretzel to taste like. We ordered the Bratwurst Platter & Knockwurst Platter off their«German Fare» menu. All the German Fare entrees come with German potato salad, red cabbage, sauerkraut, and rye bread. This was my first time trying German food. I thought the Bratwurst was pretty good, and I loved the red cabbage. I didn’t care for the Knockwurst, it just tasted like hot dog. We ate here with our German friend who said all Knockwurst tastes like that. He also mentioned that their German potato salad was probably the most bland he’s ever had. I thought it was okay. The portion sizes are generous. My girlfriend and I shared the pretzel and Bratwurst platter, and we both left full.

Absolutely terrific food, portions were amazing. House salad was enough for three. Slightly warm on patio so we went inside. Cooler but had to be pestered by some flies due to doors being open. For the price worth every nickel. Will return

Service was good, fast and friendly even on a busy night during sowo event. The patio was packed but we didn’t have a wait. Seated not by the river but still able to see it and view of the bridge. Food on the other hand is another story. My husband got the weinerschnitzel he said it tasted like the chicken patty from McDonald’s. It was not an actual cutlet of veal but processed meat with plain seasoning. It looked like they got a frozen patty and just defrosted it. I got the wurst platter, it was okay the sauerkraut was bland and had no taste to it. Prices was very high, definite tourist trap. We’re probably a bit bias since we’ve actually been to Germany and have eaten German food multiple times. To compare it with this place it’s nothing like German food. More like a bland dried out American version would be an accurate description.

Not sure why everyone is so negative. Drinks were good. Had the sweet tea vodka and citrus drink. Yum! My husband had the bratwurst. It was very yummy. Came out piping hot and the sauerkraut was authentic. I had a club. Massive sandwich and the wheat berry toast was a nice touch. Very generous portions. Definitely sit outside by the creek.
