Difficult to locate because it is in one of the alleys between buildings. Seemed very quaint inside, but it was COLD. In can understand people being cold when it was around 30 degrees outside, but it didn’t seem much warmer inside We were seated quickly, but we were also only the second table to be occupied. Another couple came in after a few minutes. Since this was our first attempt at dining in Helen, and Dagi is from Bavaria, we decided to order appetizers first to see how authentic it would be. Unfortunately, my appetizer was forgotten, but Dagi did her authentic«flown in from Munich» pretzel. This was the first letdown of our German dining experience in Helen. The dough seemed ok, but the pretzel was covered in an oil or butter, and that isn’t authentic. Maybe we shouldn’t base a review on lack of heat, food not showing up, and the pretzel not being authentic. However, we went to the bar area and met a German couple that very much agreed that this place was a letdown. Actually, meeting them was a good thing. They mentioned another restaurant in the area where we could get authentic food, but only for breakfast and lunch Maybe this was a very off night, but based on our visit, we wouldn’t recommend

Went here for lunch and enjoyed the food. I had Goulash soup. It was seasoned well and the waitress was nice enough to give me bread instead of crackers! Good service, nice restaurant. Will definitely go again

Mediocre service in the restaurant, but cold beer and humongous pretzels that are to die for. We tried the beer cheese this time to accompany it, but realistically I think the free butter might be better. Also they auto-grated 20% tip for our bigger group, which I wasn’t a fan of. We tip well but I think if you force the tip then 15 or 18 percent is more appropriate. Pretzels or pass on by!

Awesome time last night! The staff is incredible! Anyone who can keep up with the group that we brought in has my vote.

This, I’m sorry to say, was the worst meal we had on our vacation. The place is tiny and was warm inside. Our group stood awkwardly at the hostess stand while our table was prepared. We were seated, and it was TIGHT and uncomfortable. Service started off ok, although our server seemed to be the only one working the entire place. She was visibly exasperated and taxed. Our food took a loooong time to arrive. When it did mine was way over salted. The spatzel was so greasy I couldn’t even eat it. Even my son said his grilled cheese was nasty. How do you mess up grilled cheese? We sent it back in exchange for a hot-dog and it took a ridiculously long time for a stinking hot dog! Seriously?!? When who I would assume to be the manager stopped by and we told her about our trouble she didn’t seem to care or take any steps to correct the situations. Our friends have been here before and like it so maybe they were just having a really, REALLY off day? What a waste of a meal and a disgrace to the German food heritage this restaurant was!

I was in town for Oktoberfest and decided to try Old Bavaria. It was my first time trying German food, so I had a looot of questions. The server gave great recommendations and was very friendly. I like the atmosphere; there was German music playing and if you watch the way everyone interacts, you would think you’re at home with family. Parking is in the rear, and after our meal, we needed to take a stroll. They have authentic German food, but American traditional food as well. The portion size was amazing, I had enough for leftovers. We also tried the tiny beers, and they were delicious. Whenever I travel to Helen, I will definitely go back!

They have wonderful food. This is the 2nd time we have been here and it’s always good. The spatzle with black forest ham, parmeasean cheese, and cream is amazing. They also have very good brutwurst. The schnitzel is amazing as well. Good atmosphere and wonderful service.

We enjoy stopping by this German Restaurant when in Helen. There jumbo pretzel is great especially with the beer cheddar sauce. I will admit almost $ 10 for a pretzel is a bit pricey plus $ 3 for the cheese sauce. However we don’t get that treat often so we figure it’s worth the splurge. The portion sizes are good. Prices are a little higher then others in the Helen area but the quality of food is consistent. Service is always great. We were disappointed as we enjoy when they have live music which doesn’t start until a few more weeks. They have an accordion player who is hilarious!

Stopped here on our trip for some authentic German food and this place did not disappoint. The place was empty and we were the third customer of the day. Ordered the Hungarian guloush soup, amazing! By far my favorite dish. I tried the knock wurst with sauerkraut and German potato salad. Loved this but would suggest ordering the knock wurst by itself, minus all the extra bread. My boyfriend tried the Oktoberfest sampler, everything was great. Also a large variety of German beers to choose from, over 96!

The Old Bavaria Inn has an excellent German lunch menu with several sandwich options and they offered a few American sandwiches. The German beer options are endless too. I enjoyed the Debrecena Dog. The spicy Hungarian hotdog was served with sauerkraut and grilled onions on a hoagie and came with a side of German potato salad. I washed all this down with an ice cold German draft beer. Yum!

On Saturday April 5, 2014, Tony and I was walking around the quaint Village of Helen, Ga. We were walking down an alley between the shops and saw some steps leading upstairs above the Old Bavarian Inn… I found a great BAR and I was so excited. Tucked way back among a slew of other shoppes. It reminded me of when I lived in Germany and I wanted Tony to experience a GERMANPUB… and it was the closest we found. The barmaid was very friend. We tried some deep fried Mac n cheese. it was okay. I would write home about it. Tony drank a really good Pilsner draft. I snuck a few sips and enjoyed it quite a bit. Out of all the different biers he ordered this was my favorite. I would definitely like to go back to this great little bar above the alley way.
