Everything in this place is sooo nice, products, display, environment, the only thing that is not so nice is the price points, but I think if you are looking for quality, it comes with a higher price tag. Definitely recommend for a visit, it’s a must go place in Healdsburg~

Great food and service. I can’t wait to go back. This is for their restaurant only. The main store is a bit overpriced, but it’s expected and they have some hard to find items.

What’s not to like about the Shed except the prices on a lot of the high end stuff for sale? I would not have ate there except that my son & daughter-in-law treated me and Sofie to a find brunch today. Why not? All that expensive stuff is scary! They told us the wait for a table would be one hour! We didn’t mind because we wanted to look at all of the cool stuff they have for sale: books, cooking gear, gardening stuff, spices — anything that is «cool» it is there. I’m thinking, «Hmmm. If I want to be cool, all I gotta do is copy down the brands and look it up.» These items are stylish and fun. The meal was enhanced by the chairs, the glasses, the cutlery, the plates; it all made me feel special to enjoy these things that were carefully selected with just that in mind. For example: — My imperial pint glass of beer was in was Duralex made in France — The attractive Duralex water glasses; so nice I had to pick one up and take a sip of water even though I was not thirsty. — The metal Tolix chairs and tables — The Riess enamel ware — The Wesco bread box The meal was delicious! I enjoyed«Lamb Hash» — a skillet of tasty lamb pieces, new potatoes, with bits of fennel, chopped artichoke heart, padron peppers, and zucchini blossoms. I enjoyed this with a Napa IPA beer. It was all«over the top» delicious! I could only think, «I gotta come back here soon!» My son ate the butter milk biscuits and gravy. Biscuits and gravy have been a family traditional meal for centuries, so both he and I were interested to see what the Shed chef would come up with. The gravy was so tasty! We believe that chef made it from a demi glacé that they made. There was a «meat ball» of sausage in the center that was light on the taste — not like Jimmy Dean — but it was good. The biscuits were text book quality! Layers of flaky biscuit made by someone who went to the extra effort to add the cold pieces of butter and fold the dough expertly to craft each of those«to die for» biscuits. Yes, this plate of biscuits and gravy was the best we ever looked at — or ate. It was a spiritual moment for my son and I. We both gazed knowingly at that plate and said nothing; not wanting to disturb or break this special moment. What does one do when they finally discover the Holy Grail? Well, he ate it and shared little bits to each of us at the table. Overpriced? Well, if there is an hour’s wait for a table, that tells me they are underpriced. How about the Costco food court? Now there is a place that has a sweet price point; but alas! I would have been disappointed to have eaten there for brunch today. I didn’t pay anyway — so it was«the best». Next time I go back to the Shed, I’m having the biscuits and gravy and another Napa IPA. An hour’s wait? No problem. I’ll have one of those IPA’s why I wait… and yeah, I’ll gladly pay the freight. There is quality and value!

SHED is cool. Best thing about it is the«modern grange» offerings. I love sitting on the patio. The building design is fantastic; has good feng shui. Great place to be on a Saturday morning during the summer as the Healdsburg Farmer’s Market is just across the street. Bonus is the upstairs event space. Wonderful addition to Healdsburg.

We just stopped to buy some bread on the way to a camping trip. So glad that we did! Amazing bread. We got the epi and the campagne(country) loaf. The epi was scoffed down over lunch in a flash and the campagne was so good and so huge! Even better, it was fine the next day and the next day after that. How many fresh baked loaves can you say that about?! Only wish it was closer to home.

In response to John T., In your savage review of SHED, your comments about Foss Creek are without merit and we wanted to set the record straight about it’s current environmental health. First off, you declared that the creek was a sewer. The sewage treatment plant is about six miles away on the Russian River. I’m curious, did you have the waters tested or are you making a rash judgment on a low-flow urban section of the creek? Perhaps the organic material that is growing in the warming water made you think it is unclean? Admittedly, this portion of Foss Creek has been channelized in this section and has a cement bottom, but the creek as a whole is indeed a Steelhead habitat. Russian Riverkeeper has been studying Foss Creek since 2004, and we have found it to be a resilient creek through downtown Healdsburg that does support many kinds of wildlife. We have video footage of river otters swimming right through that very section of Foss Creek from 2012. In order for a mother river otter and her two pups to reside in Foss Creek attests to the richness of habitat in the creek as a whole. River Otters have a huge appetite for fish, so for them to be there indicates the presence of adequate food supply. The last three surveys by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife reported finding Steelhead fry in Foss Creek. You have not spoken from an educated perspective, and your comments are false. In your words: «The sewer that runs through it by the outside seating area is vile and disgusting. Not a steelhead habitat. Gross.» As a Healdsburg local, you should take the time to fully understand your Foss Creek ecosystem, and respect its resiliency and beauty. To Attack SHED and dismiss their section of creek as you have done is irresponsible and troubling. SHED has taken every effort to back our restoration efforts and continues to be excellent stewards of the natural world. Their building was designed to have zero discharge of potential pollutants into Foss Creek, and they have incorporated rain gardens and plant-filled bio-swales to absorb stormwater runoff from the roof before it drains directly into the creek. I encourage you to get out and volunteer for events that foster care for our urban waterways instead of placing blame on a particular steward of the creek. Sincerely, BN Education Director, Aquatic Biologist Russian Riverkeeper Healdsburg, CA

This restaurant gets lots of press and it is pleasant to sit outside amidst the lettuces, kale, and nasturtiums. The inside décor feels too industrial for my tastes. Although I found the portions to be quite small and pricey, the flavors were fresh and intense with an artistic presentation. Actually my favorite thing was the decoration on my latte. The shrimp with favas and greens was tasty. My friends enjoy the poached eggs and the Mediterranean plate with carrot hummus. Service was fine. This is a good lunch spot, but make a reservations as it is packed.

I will acknowledge up front that this isn’t a fair review, because we never actually ate any of the food offerings, or received service. I’m totally into food and wine… so trying something new in town would normally be a good thing… First time into the place — late afternoon on a Sunday. Chaos & Attitude describes what I observed. Not sure where to order food, not sure what was being served, greeter guy was engrossed in his cell phone and iPad to see that we walked in and didn’t know what the next step was to get a table… then seated people who also walked in behind us before we turned around to see that we needed to check-in… and then once we made contact with said greeter, was told there would be a 20 minute wait even though there were open seats throughout. We asked if we could sit outside — «sure» — no other help, instruction, guidance… NOTHING… just attitude like he was really, really important… Tried to find a menu where one would think you would order food — the only menus available reflected DINNER at 1pm. Chaos at coffee counter convinced me to pass. I told the two I was with I’d be sitting outside waiting for them, and would grab something somewhere else in Healdsburg if they could figure out how to order something. A few minutes later, they came out empty handed… we ended up going back up the street for an awesome lunch at another establishment. Not sure I’ll be back — possibly I would give them one more try — but frankly, there are better places to eat and spend my money in Healdsburg — and this place was just too trendy & stuck up with attitude for my taste.

Healdsburg’s SHED is Portlandia on the Russian River. One would expect to see Fred Armisen&Carrie Brownstein putting a bird on it, asking where the chicken were from, or getting gassy on the patio. Downtown Healdsburg is combination urban/rural– it’s a bedroom community for Santa Rosa, the last major city on 101 till Portland, at the same time it has views of Mt. St. Helena&an extinct volcano. Pros– Their little grocery is great for gift ideas, most of them are local, like San Leandro’s Guittard. Friendly service. They had a great corn ice cream last summer… and this year, one of their seasonal flavors is carrot turmeric. As someone who despised carrot juice as a kid… this ice cream is phenomenal. They want to be PDX’s Salt&Straw. At least they’re trying. Cons– Very few expensive takeout meals. Oakville Grocery has an array of sandwiches&salads. Confusing layout. Very pricey. Naming places SHED has become the new hipster thing, from Napa’s Foodshed Takeaway and Shed BBQ, to this. Healdsburg’s SHED is definitely hipster.

Overpriced hype. Food is attractively presented, which is a good thing since you are going to pay $$$ for very little of it. We ordered the cheese platter and were shocked when the server presented it and it consisted of 5 bits of cheese the size of the tip of my finger, with a little fig and drizzled honey. All for $ 18. Oh, and there were two tiny slices of bread. My companion and I gasped in shock, and the server flushed with embarrassment. Obviously not the first time that’s happened. The watermelon salad with charcoal sauce… well, let’s just say that was interesting, but a bust. $ 130 later(two of us), we left there hungry and went out for a burrito. A year later, SHED is nothing but a cautionary tale that evokes fits of laughter at the mere mention of the name. I guess we’re just not all that hip.

We’ve been a fan of chef Perry Hoffman since Etoile, so were interested in how his exquisite food would translate to a café. The answer is, maybe he needs a little more time to get his line cooks better trained. The baby leek salad and anchovy tartine were as good as anything we ate at Etoile, and the pâté was balanced perfectly with its accompaniments. But the Shed salad had way too much sharp dressing. The black bass was amazing, but the artichoke hearts were poorly trimmed and the broth wasn’t interesting enough to pull everything into a unified whole. Slow roasted lamb shoulder was meltingly tender, but it was also fully ½ fat – big globs of it. I like fat, but even I don’t want a plate with that much of it. The mignardises(not a freebie, a regular menu dessert plate) were high quality but not especially interesting(the baked meringue cookies were achingly sweet). Overall, the most expensive by far, but the least satisfying meal, out of the nine places on this Sonoma Cty trip.

First I sat down to eat and was given the menu but then didn’t like anything on it and noticed patrons eating out of boxes. So I asked and the ladies said you can buy deli sandwiches and salads inside. So I went inside, bought all my food and was allowed to sit at the exact same table. Though my chicken salad sandwich and faro salad were delicious I’m giving this place 3 stars because the layout is ridiculous! They are trying to be a restaurant, deli, grocery store, bar, flower shop, bakery, and kitchen store all under one roof and it’s a bit baffling. The number of cash registers per square footage will blow your mind and you can’t pay for a drink at the deli, etc etc. Never mind they are literally steps from each other(WHY?!?). Food was great, place is beautiful but layout leaves something to be desired. Am I the only one who was utterly confused?

The SHED used to be one of my favorite places to visit when staying near wine country. The last couple of years I’ve had great experiences here with excellent customer service and an interesting rotating menu. We’ve happily spent plenty of money here over the last couple of years with our 5 visits, including introducing friends to the place. However, the last visit left a very bad taste with us as the server was absolutely terrible and the service at the host stand is now just as bad. I don’t know what manager they brought in recently but we sadly will not return. The scenario: Wine being served with a nat in it, then when asking for a new glass without a bug in it and being accused of trying to get a free glass of wine. Really?! Someone returns a glass that is nearly full because a bug was in it when it was brought to the table and the server doesn’t notice, then she accuses you of trying to get a free $ 10 glass of wine. The host stand has gone downhill as well, being extremely rude and ignoring customers as they walk up. I’m not sure where they hired these new people from, but they need to interview, train and supervise them better. The last time we had a good experience here we spent $ 75 for two for lunch. After this last bad experience I’d rather take my hard earned money where they at least act like they appreciate the business.

Even if the place looked really great with its big outdoor space, our experience was slightly disappointing. We ordered 2 glasses of cider which happened not to be bubbly at all and a board of charcuterie which arrived more than 20min after our drinks. Not convinced!

I loved nearly everything about Healdsburg SHED. So much so, in fact, that we had THREE meals here in 24 hours. We first stopped into Healdsburg SHED for a Valentine’s Day dinner. I was immediately taken with how beautiful the space is and how many different little«pods» they seem to have inside — i.e. different areas of business. It’s pretty amazing to get a truly one-stop-shopping experience here — like the general stores of days gone by, except super«cool» and modern. We of course wanted to shop around the whole place, but given that it was already 9pm and time for dinner, we decided to return the next day for all of that… Dinner was very good. I appreciated that they didn’t force us into a lame fixed price V-Day meal and, instead, offered their normal menu. We had the sunchoke pizza, green garlic soup, duck leg, and the wild red snapper. I LOVED the sunchoke pizza and, over the course of my three meals there, I saw about 100 other people order it — clearly a very tasty, popular dish. The green garlic soup, which is served chilled, was underwhelming at first bite — but once I started eating it with the bread salad(i.e. seasoned baby croutons), it was much more flavorful. The duck leg was enjoyable, and I especially loved the tahini and crunchy quinoa served with it. The wild red snapper was cooked perfectly and the broth was wonderful. By the time we finished with our entrees, we were too full for dessert — even for coffee! The next morning, we returned for breakfast and shopping — well, mostly coffee and drinks. The coffee bar is nice and convenient — nothing particularly noteworthy I suppose — but the fermentation bar is the BOMB. Their homemade kombuchas and shrubs are fantastic. I had a white tea kombucha with my dinner the night before, and then I tried all of their shrubs at breakfast time, with my favorite being the meyer lemon fennel option. Shopping here is great and they have so many products for sale that I’m totally lusting after. Makes me wish I had infinite money! We did a few wine tastings in town and then went back for lunch. We had a bit of the smoked trout mousse and more tahini dip with SHED crackers at the self-service table while we waited for our lunch table to open up. The trout mousse is AMAZING. Seriously so good. It isn’t overly blended and, instead, has plenty of large chunks of tender smoked trout. The tahini dip was as good as the night before. Once we were seated for lunch on their lovely outdoor patio, we enjoyed the chicken liver toast and the smoked king salmon salad. The reason why I didn’t give Healdsburg SHED five stars after all of this glowing commentary is really the service. Our service on Valentine’s Day was terrific, but the restaurant was very quiet, the coffee /fermentation bars were closed, and no one was shopping at that time. Once this place gets busy, things seem to fall apart. It becomes very unclear where to order and pay for items, wait times are long, food is slow to arrive, drinks don’t arrive without prodding, etc. There are just too many people running around and seemingly poor lines of communication between them — at one point, we asked to move to a different outdoor table during lunch, and then the waiter nearly moved a different table to that spot. Thankfully, those diners had heard us ask the question and told him to move us instead. Notwithstanding those issues, this is truly a lovely place to spend time and I will definitely continue coming here in future Healdsburg trips.

Shed is an absolute stunner if you are looking for just a space to mosey about and look around for home, kitchen, or garden inspiration. The staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgable about the product and that passion comes across clear if you have any questions. As weekenders to HBG, we frequent Shed often and love the way the entire space is curated and merchandised. The fruits, vegetables, and flowers are always seasonal, beautiful, and most importantly, fresh! The space is filled with tourists popping in, rightfully so, but two warnings — not a fan of the coffee and if you’re in a rush on the weekend to head back to the city or just in general, appreciate good service, don’t brunch here on a weekend. Sloooow food is the appropriate term here, really lacking on the seating service! Another great attribute is the grange space upstairs which hosts communal dinners, talks, and things of that nature. Check it out!

What a cool building! Shed feels like a very clean and well lit barn. They offer a coffee bar with baked treats, a café with their famous fermentation bar and market. If you are looking for housewares and garden tools that you would never allow to touch the dirt, this is the place for you. I have never seen this many colors of twine displayed this beautifully! When Steve and I knew we would be in Healdsburg for a Unilocal Elite Event, we did a little research to find some vegan-friendly dining options. What attracted us to Shed was the fermentation bar. I had never heard of this concept so was really excited to try it. The bar offers beer, wine, hard ciders and kombucha but I was there to try the Shrubs. These are old-fashioned drinks that farmers used to quench their thirst back in the day. They are house made using their own vinegars, fresh herbs and seasonal fruit. I took the bartender’s advice and tried the Meyer Lemon Shrub. I do not think I will ever be the same again. It was amazing. I can’t wait to go back and have it again! Steve had the almond milk latte which is made with Flying Goat coffee and was right up there as(almost) as good as Ritual Coffee Roasters. Shed is located right on a little river and the huge garage type doors open to bring the outdoors inside. The day we were there it was raining heavily so we are already planning our return trip for a warm, sunny day so we can have the entire experience. The café lunch menu includes one vegan salad and 3 or 4 vegetarian choices that can be made vegan. It is a wonderful place to gather with friends and just hang out!

3.5 stars. Yes, dining at SHED is a bit, a-hem, more than a bit expensive. It has seasonal items with a lot of vegetarian-friendly dishes, and an awesome brunch menu. The brunch items tend to be on the small side(while the lunch items are bigger), so you might be surprised at the prices. The food is always fresh and delicious, so at least you are getting some of what you are paying for. But SHED isn’t just a restaurant. It is a coffee bar, a shrub bar, a lifestyle store(well, with hipster kitchen stuff), and a garden store. On top of that, it has an awesome events venue upstairs, surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and the whole building is a great throwback to modern industrial design. Sometimes I feel like I could have stuffed my face with more food if I dined elsewhere. But the food here makes my tummy feel good(perhaps because of how fresh it is?), and the coffee is decent as well. I also like to browse through the store in such an open environment with tons of natural lighting.

Ok. Farm to table has been a «go to» term for as long as I can remember, but the SHED takes this mantra to another level of amazing. Everything they source for the restaurant is local. I mean really local. I’ll go out on a limb and say, never in my life have I been presented with such an exquisite bowl of lettuces, charcuterie board, and baked bread. Whoa. Might I suggest an espresso from the bar before you run around the retail shop and raid the meat and cheese selection like a kid in a candy store? Plenty of parking across the street and a must stop for anyone in Healdsburg. I’ll be back fo sho.

I was pretty unimpressed by this place. I LOVED the décor in the market and the hipstery/Portlandy feel to it so I was really hoping to enjoy it, but it just didn’t deliver. Here were the issues: First thing might have been my own fault, so I won’t necessarily blame them. But I ordered a macchiato, which is what I normally get from Starbucks and it shows up as a normal sized drink. Here it was literally a shot of espresso with a splash of milk(which upset me bc I asked for almond milk for +35¢ so I essentially paid that much for a couple droplets). Maybe I’m just not that coffee savvy and a traditional macchiato is always like that, so my bad, I’ll let that go. Second, we ordered pastries as an appetizer and then our meals. Our meals started coming out before the pastries so then we just asked the lady to cancel the pastries. She looked at us like she had just been kneading the dough for hours and we had told her to just toss it into the trash. But I’m pretty sure the pastries are pre-made as they are ready to order at the café. Next when our food arrived, our portion sizes were pretty unremarkable for the price of the meal. Plus $ 6 for a side of bacon?! What a joke. In addition to this, the taste of my frittata was less than superb. We asked for ketchup(gasp!) and the waiter first looked at us very shocked, and then offered hot sauce for which he brought us maybe a quarter-filled sauce dish for the table. I doused my food in hot sauce, which made it alright, but to be honest, I have made myself a more flavorful frittata at home(and I’m not some kind of fancy chef). Anyway all in all, if I had paid like 75% of what I did I might have given them 3 stars, but with the weird service and not great taste it was not at all worth the value and was a total letdown. One thing that I can probably assume is that all the food I ate was organic, but organic does not have to equate to bland.

Shed is a little touristy, but as a tourist visiting Healdsburg, I liked how Shed featured specialties from around the North Bay. The layout is avant-garde and aesthetic and you can easily get lost in the world of culinary paraphernalia. Be warned however, that some items are some at Whole Foods – you don’t want to go to the trouble of bringing back gifts, only to find it available at your neighborhood grocery store. The café within Shed is a relaxing place to enjoy coffee. They also serve brunch and fine dining in the back kitchen(in Lazy Bear communal table style), but the food seems over-priced so coffee + pastry window shopping is your best bet for something to enjoy while people-watching and enjoying the hip ambiance. We got a pourover and an iced coffee(~$ 4 each). They stress locally roasted coffee, and indeed it was good – not extremely strong like Peet’s, but nice robust flavors that makes Starbucks look sad. They also serve tasty fresh juice blends(yes, the über healthy type with veggies that seem to be for juice cleanses). In the afternoon they were offering samples displayed so nicely on a porcelain pedestal that we had to ask to double check they were samples.

In yesterday’s review I was lamenting the fact that Healdsburg had gotten all glitzy, posh and fake. Well, SHED somewhat falls under this category. While its not glitzy or posh, it’s one of those places that surfs right on the trend wave: local and sustainable farming, fermentation, pickling and everything else that falls under the homesteading category. The homesteading part of it, in my opinion, is a bit too commercial. It’s homesteading for the rich and all the tools they offer are way overpriced.(«Oh, I love the idea of baking my own bread so let me just buy this country mill for $ 475…and never use it!») However, let me not be too bitchy, because despite the over-the-topness of this place, I visited it three times during my weekend-stay. Why? — Because of the food! Oh my lord, their breakfast is heaven: the baked lemon ricotta pancakes are too die for and the baked eggs with mushrooms and some kind of pesto were so good I had to order them twice.(The coffee though tasted much better at the Downtown Creamery ;-) Aside from the café and the foo-foo gadgets, they have a fermentation bar, a charcuterie, and an upstairs event area where they invite speakers to talk on subjects like organic farming, tart making, pickling etc. Furthermore, the whole place is designed through and through. It actually reminded me much of the clean architecture I discovered while traveling through Scandinavia. So, all in all, when not trying to take this place too seriously(who really needs a perigourdin basket for $ 325) I think this is a great addition to Healdsburg.
