The short: cute café with live music I really enjoyed their eggs benedict and wouldn’t mind coming back for a second round! Instead of an English muffin, they use buttermilk biscuits, which are buttery and flaky. I have no idea what Fra’Mani ham is, but it sure made the whole benedict very tasty! This place is so cute and unusual in the fact that the space is right next to a museum and is shared with the museum shop. Entrances are found on Foothill or via the back entrance from the parking lots off of Russell Way. Also, live music on the weekends! The ambiance was very casual and comforting, which is how I envision most brunch places and I am happy I found this place. Sidenote: Order at the counter and the food is brought over.

If you like eggs Benedict, please try the«Eggs ‘A Street’». They replace the English muffin with a fried corn meal battered beefsteak tomato. If I’m being extremely picky, I will say that the corn meal batter didn’t adhere as harmoniously as I would wanted to on my tomato. I highly recommend he chilaquiles. The dish really comes together with the added accoutrements of Avocado, radish and queso fresco. As good as it is, I do feel it needs more spice. It’s a tad too sweet for my taste. Veggie sandwich options are really good. Eggplant sandwich and the portobello burger are on point. Skip the fried chicken sandwich. The taste is meh and the portion is small for the $ 8.95 price tag.

Great clean food! A hidden gem :) I would’ve never known about this place without Unilocal.Thank you Unilocalers! My two favorites are the eggs A street and chilaquiles. The eggs A street is a part of their brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday only. The chilaquiles you can get any day. It’s a must try in Hayward! Haywards options for great dining are slim to none but the Cannery café is definitely in the top 3. Just get there before 2! They are open Wednesday-Sunday 8:30am-2pm Also one thing that happens when they are busy you can be waiting a long while for your food. If you get it to go they are very fast and efficient. They also have great chai tea lattes ;)

This place is so underrated. Its definitely one of the brunch places in Hayward. Its located in downtown Hayward next to the museum. They have they’re own parking which makes it very convenient. Now to the food. I tried the eggs Benedict. Their benedicts are made with biscuits instead of an english muffin which is honestly a great combo. Their biscuits are yummazing… and I’m not even a biscuit type of gal. The special plate comes with home potatoes and a couple slices of fruit as well. The potatoes were seasoned well and fruit was fresh. I don’t understand why not that many people don’t come here. such a hidden gem.

Very cozy café, a grate place to eat and study. Food comes out quickly, and it is very delicious! The menu is kind of cluttered, so ordering food may take a minute if you’re a first timer. I think simplifying the menus will benefit this business, but overall I enjoyed the food and will return again for more. The staff was kind and speedy and we could not have asked for a better brunch experience. Bring family or a small group of friends! This is the perfect spot for breakfast.

I enjoy this establishment because it has history, affordable and tasty food, great service, free coffee refills and parking — but mostly, because it supports the local city. So come, get a great meal(brunch and lunch are best) and do a good deed at the same time. There’s live music on weekends and tables can be scarce if you’re looking for a larger group. Come a little early if you need a larger table. They also have different menu options on the weekends, so be sure to check the menu and the daily specials.

I was in the area looking for a brunch place and this spot popped up on Unilocal. There’s plenty of parking in the lot(it’s shared with the museum). You walk in and order and pay at the counter, they’ll give you a number and deliver you the food when it’s ready. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes, my friend ordered the hunt’s hash and we both got mimosas. I mean…$ 3?! It’s almost a no brainer. The pancakes were meh. There wasn’t much lemon and only the slightest bit of ricotta. They just tasted like plain pancakes. The berry compote on the side was delicious though. But I would pass on this dish. I didn’t try any of the hunt’s hash but said it was fine, nothing special. But he said the eggs were cooked well! Portions were decent and the prices are affordable, but I don’t think I’d have a craving to come back.

Cute space with a really relaxing vibe. They even have some specialty beers(ex. Evil Twin) on tap. Coffee was solid as well. Unfortunately, the food fell short. The Hunt’s Hash came out practically cold. The Veggie Tofu Scramble was something most people could make at home but the home fries were excellent. The scramble was lightly seasoned so I ended up dousing it with ketchup and hot sauce. Where the food lacks, the portions make up for. You get a lot of food for around $ 8 per plate. I would definitely come back because of the ambiance.

A few of my faves(must try): — rancheros chilaquiles — homemade chips with blue cheese — biscuits & gravy Tried my husbands turkey, avo, bacon sandwich on sourdough and that was yummy too! Self seating. Fall in line to order, then food is delivered to your table. They serve beer & wine here & mimosas for brunch!

Yes yes YES!!! This place is amazing! They hunters hash is so good, my girlfriend gets it every Sunday. I tend to go for any of the croissant sandwiches they use the best ingredients and everything always that very fresh. The staff is very nice and the food comes out quickly. They also sell really good jars of pickles and super flavorful horseradish. Love them, can’t wait to go back

I was so surprised to see that this place was located inside a historical museum. I guess before coming here I expected it to be more of a sit down restaurant type feel, but it ended up being more of a coffee shop that served breakfast. You basically go up to the register to order and the place is self seating and they bring your dishes out to you, so there is very little customer to server interaction. However, the staff was very friendly when ordering and bringing our food out! As far as the menu goes, it’s kind of a small selection, but everything sounded pretty good. Breakfast is served until 11am and the brunch menu is only available on the weekends. I ended up ordering the Chilaquiles which were alright. For under $ 10, they were good, but I wouldn’t say they were great. The salsa used was just so-so, but I loved the fresh avocado that was on top! Overall, cute place. I only wish I had stopped by for a smaller meal or pastry and a tea as opposed to an actual breakfast.

Walk into the this café with no line, thank god! This café is so cute, & it has inside museum. Super clean very beautiful décor and very friendly staff! I ordered tofu veggie omelet, with my eggs over easy and I also got the Carmel mocha! We sat down waited for our orders for about 15 mins, people who knows me knows I ate scramble and that’s what I got, when I ask for over easy! My omelette was very bland, no taste! I tried what my husband had and it was very good! I absolutely love my caramel mocha! Just the right amount of sweetness it in! Only thing I dislike is when we are done eating we have to put out dish and silverware away ourself! Which was a hassle because on the counter it’s label forks, spoons, coffee cups and plates! I seriously think I threw away my fork when I was trying to throw my food into the trash Overall this place is not to bad!

I don’t Unilocal much but ohmygosh! I came in on a Saturday and had the Eggs Benedict. And I have to say it was one of the best brunches that I’ve ever had. The combination of the hollandaise sauce, the buttermilk biscuit, the ham and eggs was perfect against the side order of the savory sausage. After a few bites I had to stop and take pictures for the review. Yep, in my opinion it was that good… A perfect balance of flavors all around. I had mine with soy double latte, and the watermelon juice to round it off! Everyone was super nice and friendly with a great atmosphere… even live music beginning 11AM on the weekends. If you are a fan of Eggs Benedict, you have to give this place a try!!!

Amazing customer service! They were so friendly and helpful! It was my first time here and I had no idea what to order. I asked one of the ladies working there and she have me her top 3 dishes. I choose the fried chicken sandwich. Probably one of the best I ever had! I love food, but this was just great and I’ll definitely be coming back.

I was really impressed by this hard to find place. I had read reviews on it for many weeks and found the perfect opportunity to visit when my family came to town. I was surprised, because no one told me it was in the actual Hayward historical society building, and it seems like a nice place to grab lunch if you’re working downtown. I had the special scramble which was bok choy, pesto, and mushroom. It was delicious and so much food I couldn’t eat it all. My mom had their brunch sandwich that was fried chicken and a delicious coleslaw. She said it was very good and she wants to come back next time she visits. We also split, as a table, a cranberry scone. It wasn’t the texture that most scones seem to be, but the flavor was so intense that it was worth the money! So glad we found this little hidden gem and we will be back soon!

At first, my boyfriend and I thought we were in the wrong parking lot! The café is actually inside a historical museum — which was not a bad thing. It was a new and unique setting compared to the Sunday brunch joints we are use to. I started off my meal with a pleasant iced coffee. While most places only serve hot coffee or sugary, pre-made iced coffee during breakfast, The Cannery Café offers a straight cold, decent brew. They offer the dairy and sugar on the side(with even almond milk as an option)! Michael had the breakfast sandwich on a croissant. The best part of the it was a fresh spread of avocado. I myself had the meyer lemon ricotta pancakes and Hunt’s hash. The berry compote served with the pancakes was warm, tangy, and divine. And while I enjoyed the hash as well, I must warn the diners of Filipino heritage — ITTASTESJUSTLIKEOURMENUDO! While delicious, especially with the skin-on potatoes, poached eggs, and dashes of Tabasco, you will be left pining for some rice! On that note, we are excited to try more offerings from The Cannery Café.

Nice new spot that’s exactly what Hayward needed. The food tastes great, the prices are fair, and the staff are friendly. I had a brisket sandwich that came piled high with hot tender meat, caramelized onions, and a balanced horseradish mustard. Check this place out before or after a trip through the Hayward Area Historical Societies’ museum. They serve some local beers too, on draft and in the bottle.

Upping my review to 5 stars after my second review cause I just love love love this place! Stamp of approval from the hubby too! Second time around I ordered the Two Farm Fresh Eggs dish again — I’m boring when it comes to breakfast and I just like my traditional plate. If you have to try anything — FENNELSAUSAGE — I can’t get over it!

The Cannery Café is a pretty darn cute little breakfast café-diner hybrid. The location within a museum really surprised me, and I was a little skeptical of its potential at first, but the ambiance, décor, and casual elegance keep nudging return visits. I’m a huge fan of the simple but lovely table décor( ), which always gives the space a sunny and serene garnish. One fact I learned the hard way is that weekday and weekend menus are different, and many of the top recommendations come from the weekend menu. The weekday menu isn’t bad, but I do prefer the variety that the weekend one offers. There is often live music on weekends( ), which I find really adorable. Because I’m partial to the weekend menu, I’ll stick to those options in this particular review. Eggs Benedict: ( ) This dish utilizes halved biscuits on the bottom, and the biscuits here are incredibly flaky and buttery. Because of how buttery they are, the biscuits can feel a little heavy towards the end. The eggs were poached perfectly, the ham was seared well if a little salty, and the hollandaise wasn’t overly salty. I didn’t find the country potatoes particularly memorable, but I did appreciate the side garnishes of fruit. Veggie scramble with country potatoes: ( ) I tend to like my scrambles cooked well, and the eggs definitely leaned towards that side. There was a nice medley of sliced vegetables, and it was definitely a dish which allowed the true flavor of the food to shine through. Again, the country potatoes weren’t memorable, but the textural addition to the scramble was nice. Lemon ricotta pancakes topped with berry compote: ( ) I was a serious fan of the berry compote in this dish, even if the pancakes didn’t wow me. That’s perhaps not a popular opinion, but I felt that the pancakes were too«wet,» perhaps due to the ricotta, yielding a heavy and damp texture I didn’t enjoy. The berry compote tasted really well-done and wasn’t overly sugary, so the tartness of the fresh berries came through beautifully. Whenever I’m in the area on a weekend and it’s brunchish time, my mind flits to The Cannery Café. It’s a comfortable venue with decently satisfying food, and each advantage elevates the other nicely.

Came here after hearing so much about it from people. Their menu had a few options, but the brunch menu had way more options. I ordered the squash, basil, pesto, scrambled egg sandwich($ 7.95 with no meat) and then I added bacon to it for $ 2. The menu says«butternut squash» but the paper menu says«seasonal squash»…I got zucchini instead of butternut; little disappointing because those are very different flavors. It was a little more pricey than I was hoping to spend. The sandwich was big and filling and came with a side of fresh fruit. The café is very clean and they sell homemade salad dressings and desserts as well. It’s nice that afterwards when you’re full you can go walk around the museum(Dillon at the front desk is awesome!) Only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of pricing. I will definitely be back to try the brunch menu.
