A friend of mine, Matt first mentioned this place in conversation to me. I was just down the street with two brothers from CSUH at an alumni event at buffalo bills and decided it was time to check this place out for the first time due to proximity and in celebration of my good blood test results. A1c Aok! Lets keep the buzz goin! This place is full of laughter and good times even on a Monday night. The bartender, sharon, greets people by first name and gives all her attention to us. Pulls up a chair and plays games. If one would have the ability to choose ones own mom she would be it. Soulful music from a decent jukebox plays in the backgroynd an beers are not expensive. An electronic dart board is there for entertainment. A guy walks in, I’m greeted with a hello and a handshake. Much later he leaves and I get a hug before he goes. This is intimate place for regulars. Condom dispenser above urinal for your convenience.

Curly’s Place is definitely the place to go. The bartenders are friendly and funny. The atmosphere is casual. This is a great place to come and socialize with friends. It truly is a diamond in a dark spot. ;)

I am SO happy I found this little hidden gem bar just minutes from my house. Curly’s Place is a nice small bar right at the cut off between Hayward and Castro Valley! I was riding home one night and my head was going 100 miles per hour. I decided to slow it down a bit by going to a bar and having a drink! Hence, I’m not the type to go to a bar by myself(I know, lame, right??) but I decided what they heck YOLO(You only live once)! So I pulled up into the bar and found parking on the side of the building(They have a big lot in the back that you can park in but it closes at 11P.M.) If you don’t pull your car outside before 11P.M. you better believe that your car will be left there till the next day! I heard tons of stories that night on how many people had their cars stuck in the gate and couldn’t get them out. Sad but true story! I walked in through the back and seated myself at the bar. ATMOSPHERE: Everyone was laughing and having a great time. People are friendly and introduced themselves and made me feel right at home. I noticed that many people there were regulars and come on a regular basis. It’s like everyone knows everyone. BARTENDER: Was such a sweetheart. I had the pleasure of having Anise as my bartender. I was ordering Margaritas at the beginning but let me just tell you that soon changed after the first hour. Haha I had people buying me shots and others ordering me Mai Tai! Whoo! Anise was amazing when it comes to making drinks! I could tell she really enjoyed her job, which is always a pleasure to see. Cheap drinks and generous amounts of alcohol. What more can you ask for. THEYFANCYHUH: Yes, they are! They have the flat screen TV’S located in the corner and a jukebox that places all the jamming music! After 11P.M. it was cracking in there! OHBOY! Small dance floor but they had about 3 tables near the entrance of the door just in case the bar was full. I met tons of great people there and didn’t end up leaving till 3A.M. which was way passed the time the bar closes. We ended up hanging outside the bar and bringing our drinking high down before driving home. I think I found my new favorite bar spot! I would definitely be back here again!

Curlys Place set’s the standard for dive bars. I passed Curlys almost daily wanting to go in but was intimidated. I finally got the guts to try it and realized that the place wasn’t half bad. The drink prices at Curlys are the cheapest in town, sometimes they offer a $ 2.50 Tecate. The bartenders at night Sharon and Anise are great they give you a good shot free pour no measuring. You get your monies worth here.

A small bar located in the corner of Woodbridge, easily missed if it wasn’t for Unilocal.I came in thinking it would be a young crowd but most were in their late 40s and up but rowdy like 20 year olds, hahaha. Maybe I can take home a GILF, jk people! Fairly small. Bar fits only about 30 people and not enough room to move around. This place seems like a place for locales to chill and socialize. Beers are fairly priced. Got a bud light for 3.50. I’m from Vegas so this is «hella» cheap. Using«hella» since it’s the thing in NorCal. And oh it’s $ 15 minimum if you use a card. I’m just here killing time in Hayward while waiting for a friend to get home.

Nice little dive bar. Sharon, who was bartending when I was there, was very nice and more than happy to make some unusual pours. Everyone else there seemed like a regular, and was very friendly. My new favorite dive.

Curly’s is a small bar on the border of Hayward and Castro Valley. My boyfriend and I were driving around and decided to head the other way on B Street instead of going downtown as usual for a drink. It has a nice, homey feel and is surprisingly clean. There is a picnic table out back(but can’t bring your drinks out there) and an unexpectedly large parking lot that is shared with the businesses next door. Nestled in a neighborhood, there were nice and friendly patrons, and as the very sweet bartender pointed out«these are your neighbors». Points for the digital jukebox, 2 liquor stores in proximity for snacks or post-bar necessities, and pizza next door. I will be back for further reviewing :]

In a search for a dive bar not too far from home, Unilocal led me to Curly’s Place on a rainy Saturday night. VIP parking kept me dry, until entering and discovering they served beer in small and large pitcher — nice! Gotta love a place with pitchers! Seems like a popular«Norm!» kind of bar with locals who frequent the jukebox and poker tv. Friendly folk, adequate selection, likely to return again.

I heart dives. This one happens to be perfectly located next to my favorite burger joint. Seriously a match made in heaven! I was pulled in by it’s old school sign and barn door for a pre dinner drink. We were greeted by the friendly bartender and who poured some nice size shots and started in with the locale’s banter. We asked about the safety of the area and parking lot because my mountain bike was in the bed of our truck. The bartender offered to watch my bike inside of the bar! We came back after dinner to my bike safe and sound and another round of drinks. This is now our ritual every time we’re in the area. Nice flat screen TVs, friendly regulars, and an incredible bloody mary on a Saturday afternoon are not things you can always expect from a dive but you can definitely find it here.

Great little made over dive bar. Lots of «salt of the earth» type characters mixed with the appropriate amount of seediness. I especially enjoyed the manic disco dancer that was running the floor the night I was there. Odd, but harmless. Give it a shot, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Haven’t been here in a few months, since my discovery of the Dirty Bird, but Curly’s Place deserves a review. I like it here: the beer is cheap, the patrons are fun to watch if nothing else, and they employees are nice. I hear the new own is making a lot more progress lately, trying to fix the place up from the super-dive it used to be. Sadly, even though I’m stumbling distance from the door, I haven’t been back in a while. Bottom line: Good place, cheap drinks. Go here, at least once.

Spotted this little gem from way down the street as we headed to Hayward to shop for tile. Pulled in and was immediately greeted by the sweetest Korean bartender named«Goo»(pronounced G’ You) now goes by Jinifer. Her long islands were strong, she told the most vulgar jokes with a sweet innocent Asian smile on her face, offered us complimentary popcorn AND… guess answers with us as we watched Family Fued on TV. She also shared secret herbal remedies, secrets of Asian culture and tradition with us — she was darling! I’m not in Hayward often but will always make a pit stop at Curly’s every time I am!

It’s a good enough neighborhood bar. Nice little smoking area out back. The regulars are friendly without being overbearing. It’s a good place to unwind with a beer. Not a scary place at all, despite its outward appearance. –And that’s written by a single woman who tends to go in there alone. Be warned, if you want any sort of cocktail that’s out of the ordinary, be prepared to tell the bartender how to make it. The bartenders are great, though, and happy to oblige.

It’s only fair that I post a new review. I was harsh(but fair) with my earlier review. Curly’s is not the same place it was. The new owner is a sweetheart. She’s put in new flooring, new bar chairs, flat screen TV’s and other amenities. It seems she actually wishes to establish a regular clientele. The bartenders are now all very cool. The entire atmosphere is just fun again. Heck, the new owner has actually bought the bar a round a few times. Never saw that under the old régime. I believe we have our neighborhood bar returned to us. THEREIS A GOD!

This little bar is tucked right next to Val’s Burger’s. Cash only, a total dive. Bar full of regulars. I go here when I want to get some grub, get my drink, be isolated, but not be alone. The regulars are friendly, but I am not at the point of truly interacting. The first time I went someone was having a birthday party, the second time I went I made these notes on an index card: «moves of a stripper if you were tipping with methadone tablets» — about one of the girls dancing to music from the jukebox. «reminds me of something — the 80’s» — about the place in general «friendly –rhythm-less white people» –about the occupants. Can you say catty beotch? Of course, I’d like to say this was after the dwarf looking regular asked me about my daughter. I know I am a black woman over the age of 12 in a town near Oakland, but I don’t have kids, I looked at him and said, «you don’t know me» he wisely stopped talking to me. However, he did turn to the guy next to him, to talk about me and my kids, I think homie clued him in that I wasn’t who he thought. That guys girlfriend doesn’t like me. Her man keeps checking me out and trying to chat. On my first visit she hella bumped me the first time, I scooted away and gave her a scathing look. I don’t like to be touched by people I don’t know when a bar has plenty of room to move around. However, this place is close to my house, a dive and the bartender, hands down the best bartender ever. I swear. She has the skills of someone who worked in one of those NY snooty places. My first visit, I had Val’s she brings over salt, pepper then asks me if I need ketchup. Didn’t even have to ask for it. On my next visit I have ribs, she brings me a bowl of warm water with lemon to soak my fingers in after I am done. Which is actually really effective. Oh and of course extra napkins. I have been in hundreds of bars in my life and the most kick-arse bar maid is here. She’s nice, social and could probably kick your arse outback. I go back, because it’s entertaining. It is a total study in the mating habits of the dork I always thought I was, but was outwardly able to hide. The service is fab and my 151 shots are stiff and don’t break the bank. *********update*********** went tonight, the nice bartender wasn’t there had a run in with serious attitude. I walk in take a seat at the end of the bar and waited. She’s taking inventory of some kind. I figure maybe she didn’t see me, so I am not going to bother her, because she’s busy, then she turns and looks at me and keeps taking inventory. One of the regular’s places an empty beer bottle on the bar and she immediately moves to grab his beer and get him another one. He says, I think she was her first and waiting, pointing at me, she stops, looks at him, then looks at me and then walks over to take my order. I am completely stunned. I get my drink, under filled and without further comment. I go to the middle of the bar where she is and ask her for salt and pepper. She grabs the pepper and the salt and places them at my seat on the other end of the bar. She doesn’t even bother to hand them to me. At my seat she is attempting to open the pepper over my food. You want to piss a black person off, reach over their food. I go over there and tell her that’s okay I’ll do it and ask her not to reach over my plate. She gives me this super nasty look and says I wasn’t going to touch it and I say good. She gives me another look and walks away, she takes up talking to the girl who doesn’t like me because of her man, truth is they look alike. The night probably would have continued that way if I hadn’t made fast friends with the lady who settled down close to. She was loud, raunchy and hilarious. I liked her immediately. She turned me on to some apprentice welding program. I have always wanted to learn welding. Just some weird bug I have up my arse. She went to the other end of the bar to get a pen and paper from the evil bar maid. After that the woman’s attitude improved considerably. She started to chat with gossip and me with me. She cuts me off at 2151’s. She says that she went to some class and that equals like 4 drinks each, blah blah blah. I look at her and ask do I look intoxicated to you? She’s says no, but it might hit me later and then it comes back on the bar. Mind you I respect people who stop drunkenness. However, lets look at the facts, I walked in with a full meal, that I ate at the bar. It took my 1.5 hours to kill the first two drinks, with a backer. I am not slamming the mofo’s back. I don’t even have a buzz going. That just annoyed me. I eventually order a jäger, then another hour passes and I am allowed my final 151 shot. I went home after that. The mean bartender is named Deb. A bartender I don’t like? Amazing. Found out the rest of the bar wasn’t too fond of her either. That made me feel better. She works Sun-Tuesday and Stephanie — the awesome one works Wednesday-Saturday, she has the bright red hair .
