The Black Belt Academy

We were blessed with one son and of course we were very selective upon choosing
an aftercare program that suited our son’s needs. It is with great concern when your
Child has been bullied and then fearful to attend school which is why we enrolled him
In The Black Belt Academy. After a few years attending BBA, our son is no longer a victim of bullying, has improvement upon self-​esteem along with self-​confidence, ability to focus with having ADHD issues and has a positive attitude.
We have previously enrolled him in several aftercare programs but unfortunately they did not meet our son’s needs. After experiencing other aftercare programs, we are able to make a fair comparison upon why we have chosen The Black Belt Academy .
What sets The Black Belt Academy apart from the others is that they foster a nurturing environment where everyone’s individual needs are personally addressed.
Master Nyce, Mrs. Lisa Nyce, Master Dan, Master Mike & Mr. Peter have treated us as part of their FAMILY than just a business. They treat all of their students as «ONE BIG FAMILY.» Our son adores Mrs. Nyce and thinks of her as his second Mom and importantly is very HAPPY !!! Overall, we all want the best for our children and The Black Belt Academy has certainly surpassed our expectations.

The black belt acedemy has been serving northern VA for 30 years, according to their websit, I don’t know how long the haymarket school has been open but I’ve been going here for about 3 years now. The school has changed quite a bit since I started.
At first it was apparent that Master Nyce was more focused on buisness and keeping the school fun and appealing to the younger kids and not terribly concerned with a lot of discipline. Not to say the place was rampa room but strict is not a word I would’ve used back then. Master Nyce’s son Dan has taken over a lot of the instruction and has brought the school more to a disiplined enviornment.
If you’ve never taken a day of martial arts in your life this is a good school to start in because they use a lot of positive reenforcement to teach. You won’t find any wooden bamboo sticks aroud here with stern asian masters whipping people for mistakes, nope none of that. Its a very positive learning enviroment and very easy to progress through the different belt levels. It always strikes me as amusing that the owner of the school’s name is Nyce (just like «nice») because that is his personality.
You have the option to take Tae Kwon Do and a «cardio-​combat» type class (more for adults) and if you’re in the tae kwon do once you reach a certain belt level there’s a weapons class to join. Also with the tkd, and again after a certain belt level there is a competition team and a sparing team. Both definatly worth looking into as it adds to the training and practice.
