This marker on the side of the road deserves more for an American hero. Serving the United States during the Revolutionary War, the Northwest Indian War and the War of 1812. Somewhere in there, he saved the life of Daniel Boone, married twice and had ten children. Kenton County Kentucky is named for him as is the suspension bridge near Maysville, Kentucky. The marker reads: Near Hopewell Gap, five miles west, Simon Kenton was born, 1755. Leaving home in 1771, he became an associate of Daniel Boone and George Rogers Clark in Indian fighting. He won fame as a scout and as one of the founders of Kentucky. Kenton died in Ohio in 1836.
