I ordered chicken nachos. It was lacking flavor but I liked that they only gave fresh tortilla chips. My sister ordered a chicken burrito. It was good… I think if I ever go back I won’t order nachos. I’ll stick with a burrito or try something different.

Every single item on the menu is delicious. They cook the carne asada fresh as you order your food. Great salsa bar and they are very friendly. Will keep coming back.

I usually rate restaurants on different levels. important to me is of course taste but I also rate highly and appreciate a clean restaurant. I did not see anything clean about this place but we were already here and I figured, what the heck? I ordered tacos because I was cravng them, my daughter wanted posole. Like I said it was dirty, they had a rag at the counter with some disinfectant so I cleaned my own table. The chips arrived promptly but they were covered in oil… a total turn off cause I love chips and salsa. Salsas were okay, the green one wasn’t appetizing but I tried some. Tacos arrived, I rate them a 3, taste okay but once again, oily. The Poole looked okay, my daughter said it was average. So I gave 2 stars. I won’t be back, I don’t like greasy food or dirty tables.

I live nearby and since no other place serves tripas, I wanted to try this place out. The first time I asked for them well done they came out undercooked. I figured it was a mistake maybe they didn’t hear me so I’ll give it another try. The second time they were even worse and had the most uncomfortable stomach pains. The cook might be cross contaminating the food, because I’ve never had that problem eating tripas like that ever. I would not recommend this place to anyone and I will never be coming back again.

I’ve learned not to trust the ratings on Unilocal,as they can be misleading. I came here late at night once, I’m guessing a bit near closing time. I ordered 2 tacos, one pork and one asada, with everything. The cook was covered in dirty stains and looked like he hadn’t washed his hands in a long time. I noticed a small child running around in the back. This seemed like a major health violation. About an hour or so after eating the tacos I noticed my stomach starting to hurt. Harsh pains would come and go like someone was pushing from the inside of my stomach. The next day i woke up, still in pain. Later that day I came down with a fever. It’s been a few days and I still have stomach pains. I HIGHLY suggest considering all this before visiting this place, other reviews I’ve read express similar things to what I’ve experienced and I understand why. The people rating this place 4⁄5 stars probably came here during prime hours when the food was in constant circulation. But god forbid someone come in near closing hours, they’ll be met with a subpar experience in food quality. I hope others read this, I don’t want other people having to get sick like I did.

Cash only. The carne asada tacos were ok. It was a little dry and tasted different than what I’m used to. The tortilla was also thicker than the usual. They made their own chips and it came free with our order along with refried beans. On a cart, they did have the different salsa and sides that I like in a Mexican restaurant and you can just get as much as you want. The owner was manning the front register and she was happily talking to the patrons. Mostly locals ate there and a few parking spots available.

It’s hard finding a good authentic taqueria in OC, so When i need a taco fix i head out to nearby Hawaiian Gardens. There are four spots to choose from within 1 square mile and coyotes is one of them. The strip mall and storefront isn’t very inviting, but, don’t let that stop you from trying. The tacos here are better than most IMHO. Coyotes sells the usual items but this review is based on the tacos. Coyotes makes traditional street style tacos made with soft corn tortillas, grilled meats, onion and cilantro, and salsa. The tacos are soft, warm, crunchy, spicy, and a little greasy, but in a good way. The tortillas had that authentic maiz flavor unlike the bland white corn tortillas most restaurants use. They don’t get as much business as their largest competitor, whom I like the least, which doesn’t surprise me. I think it’s because of their location. The only down side is the price. Tacos are around $ 2 and certain meats(tripas and buche) are closer to $ 3 which is expensive compared to some of their competitors. My wife and I spent close to $ 30 for tacos and an agua de melon. Compared to My 2nd fav. Spot(sahuayos) who sells $ 1 tacos, Coyotes is overpriced. 1 advantage they have over sahuayos is that they serve tripas. If ur in the mood for some«street style tacos» and near hawaiian gardens I recommend u judge for yourself.

visited this place based on Unilocal reviews as Tacos Chava down the street was already closed. Warning — Health Dept. violation nightmare. As I ordered my carnitas burrito, I noticed a couple stainless steel containers sitting on the counter in the kitchen even though the establishment was empty. mind you, there was no heat lamp or refrigeration chilling or keeping it warm. As I watched the cook prepare my burrito, I saw him reach into one to pull out a big piece of pork that he started chopping up. pretty much grossed me out, but since I had already paid and they don’t speak English, I thought… whatever, I’ll try it anyway. The burrito came out quite large which made me a happier camper, but I was still filled with buyers remorse regardless. the meat was so dry, and tough that you’d think they prepared it days ago, heated, reheated many times over. truly a disappointment. my girlfriend ordered a steak quesadilla even though she had her heart set on taquitos. to her dismay, they only offer preprepared taquitos that are only filled with chicken or potato. her quesadilla not only was lacking meat and cheese, but was literally served cold. at least her meat was refrigerated. I could tell because many of the chunks of meat were still chilled and much of the cheese was unmelted. I tried a bite, and it turned out to be even worse than my burrito! how can you fuck up a quesadilla?! the salsa bar had 4 different salsas. a red one that is probably supposed to be hot, a chipotle sauce, green and an avocado salsa(which is actually pretty decent!) lemons instead of limes, pickled jalapenos and carrots(did not attempt to try) the cashier seemed very nice. I don’t believe she understands or speaks much English — good thing I know how to order food in Spanish. synopsis: I will never return. food so bad I wouldn’t feed it my dogs. oh yeah, my burrito also had what appeared to be a cat hair in it — did not see any pets in there tho. if you eat here, may the force be with you. ** post review update: after a couple hours, I experienced vomit city. I may contact health dept. Monday.

I remember first going here when my dad took me as a kid. It’s a family owned, hole in the wall spot. I still go here for the best Mexican food 10 years later because the food is just that good. It’s great to see that they’re still in business and the same family is still around. Years ago I remember seeing the owners son doing his homework in the corner but now he’s running the cash register. I hope this place stays for several more years because the food is great and authentic, and the workers are awesome.

Hopefully, they read their reviews on Unilocal so this doesn’t happen again! I ordered their carne asada plate and wanted to taste their«infamous salsas» that everyone rants about on here, so I get one of each. it was eehhh… After I finish eating their OK food, I get home and not more than 2 hours later, my stomach starts hurting… I would write more about my FIRST food poisoning experience, but it wasn’t pleasant. Long story short, I was in A LOT of pain for eight hours! Felt like someone was in my stomach, s l o w l y cutting my insides open! I don’t ever want to feel that, again! I’m very disappointed with this place and do hope they handle their food a little, no, A LOT better in the future!

My taste buds have forever been ruined/spoiled/unnatural because of this place. A family-owned, hole-in-the-wall place in the«fabulous» city of Hawaiian Garden, this place is the quintessential Mexican restaurant. After going here for over 4 years, I have nothing but respect and love for the family and their food. Carne Asada = Bonito. Al Pastor = Muy, muy bonita.

My parents & aunt from SD visited me, & my Filipino family were in a good mood for some Mexican cuisine. Since I decided to give a rarely Unilocaled restaurant a try, this was where we headed to. I’ll have to admit; yea it’s in Hawaiian Gardens, but as much as I hate using this adjective, the plaza, at least, looked pretty pretentious. Yep, I saw disorganized plastic utensils(some w/a few specks =/), a carelessly maintained(but not grossly) salsa bar, B grade, & no accessible napkins?! I was apprehensive bringing my family here *___*, but hey: we’re here solely on the food! And this was what we ordered: Asada Burrito($ 6…& the menu listed $ 4.75 – oh well, I didn’t pay for this =P), [Pollo] Taquitos Dorados($ 4.75), side of Spanish Rice($ 1), & my Asada Taco & Lengua Taco($ 1.50 each). I’ll start w/my food: I did like how I got both tacos not drenched in oil. Sadly, the Asada alone tasted pretty vapid, & thus I heavily depended on the salsas. Fortunately, the Lengua was quite buttery in the tongue(no pun intended). Still, in terms of flavor, the Lengua didn’t hit the spot, i.e., it can’t beat the one in Taco Boy. Moreover, the darkly red salsa was surprisingly not jalapeño-leveled spicy – heh, I assumed it would be, compared to its lightly colored, meek«cousin” – but at least it gave effort eventually leaving a little tingle on my lips. And my mom left me one taquito, & not only the chicken tasted way too safe, but I disliked how it’s crisp in the middle but close-to-burnt crunchy on the edges, along w/overcooked chicken tips – to me that’s a turn-off w/taquitos. My dad’s burrito was shockingly smaller than how much it’s worth; but my dad didn’t really care if it tasted outstanding or not =/. And I wished I sampled the Spanish Rice before my aunt totally adulterated the side w/a packet of salt – not kidding. Without the extremely nice service, especially when the lady genuinely apologized for mistakenly writing the order of 3 burritos instead of 1 that she gladly refunded us cash – thank God my dad paid our lunch w/the greens – I could’ve bashed this eatery 2 stars. Ooh, & one more reason I give this place 3: so far, I’ve indulged the best $ 2 Venti-sized, scratch-made Horchata EVER: perfect milk-water ratio, right amount of ice & coldness, & exquisitely fine hint of cinnamon. Ahh, que rica =).

They have the best most authentic food in the area. Everything is good here. You can not go wrong getting anything on the menu. Check the small marker board menu for other great stuff they make that day. The Barbacoa de pollo is soooo good, they just don’t have it all the time. They make their tortillas by hand, and their tacos are the best around because of it. Just like Jason R. said, their burritos are huge and delicious. It will take you a few visits to try everything and you truly will not be disappointed every time you go.

The Good: Hole-in-the-wall, so authentic and good food. The quality of the meat is very good unlike the meat at Albertaco’s and such others. The prices are cheap. The Bad: It is a little bit dirty, but it is in the middle of Hawaiian Gardens. The environment is the only thing I had a problem with. Try: Carne Asada Burrito, Quesadilla Don’t try: Everything’s good here.
