This used to be our favorite pizza place, it was as close as we could get to NY style. We haven’t ordered since the new management took over and it was horrible! The crust was too thick and tasted stale, the sauce was too sweet and the cheese tasted processed. The cannolis smelled«musty,» for lack of a better description, despite knowing they had just been made fresh. REALLY disappointed, I’ve never thrown away a Sal’s pizza before. Anyone know a good place for NY style pizza around here?

Went back to Sals because if new management but it’s the same old bad pizza. When we opened the pizza box the pizza was so over cooked and burnt that the person who placed the pizza in the box knew that this was no good but yet they took my money and I had to throw it away . Somethings don’t change, like terrible pizza at Sals!

Great pizza, best prices in area, friendly staff. They usually have deals on the XL pizzas, crust, sauce and cheese are all phenomenal.

My job constantly keeps me on call so when I’m driving I have to be quick with my food picks. I was sent from Boston to Haverhill today and wasn’t psyched. I know nothing about the town. So when o dropped off my patient I stopped into the first place I saw: Sal’s. Immediately noticeable was how clean the place was. Saw five or six pizzas displayed. All fresh and clearly just cooked. A man and a woman were behind the counter. I asked their favorites and the loaded baked potato(are you sh*tt*ng me) and cheeseburger pizza were recommended. Obviously my coworker and I snagged ONE slice each. I saw one slice because one slice is a quarter of a pizza. Both slices were outstanding. Fresh ingredients. Authentic mozzarella. Perfect amount of sauce and the crust was awesome! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I was psyched how perfect the crust was. I wish I was closer to this place. It was phenomenal and I’ll definitely be volunteering to go to Haverhill next time the job asks. Well done to the owners. Best of luck with the business.

Finally back in the Merrimack Valley and after living 8 years in California you forget what a good slice of pizza can taste like. Well Sal’s makes a killer slice that is absolutely huge, with just enough sauce, cheese and dough to satisfy any pizza lover.

I must confess that I came here based on how amazing a Unilocaler’s photo of the pizza case looked. When I walked in, I was met with what appeared to be several wonderful looking pizzas/slices. Other than the one guy working, I was the only other person in the place. Upon a closer look, it was obvious that the pizzas were not at their peek and the selection seemed a little limited. I clarified what a couple of the toppings were for a couple of pizzas and then ordered a ‘slice’(really it’s ¼ of a pizza). The guy working was not friendly. He didn’t seem happy– not that I expect a song and a dance or anything… just some basic level of interest in holding down the fort. I think other than naming the two toppings I asked about, the only other words he said were ‘here or to go’ and ‘all set’. After paying for my slice, an amount he muttered so I’m not going to count that as words, I had to ask for my receipt. Having to ask for a receipt, rather than it being offered, is one of my pet peeves. I took my receipt and went to find a seat. I’ll remind you that I had my choice of ANY seat in the place. As I went to each booth, I saw that each one was the covered in food residue, crumbs and/or liquid. I went to the counter by the window and it was the same. How could the place be dead and so dirty?! It was like the guy working felt it was beneath him to clean up the dining room after the lunch rush… assuming there was one that caused the destruction I was dealing with. I grabbed some napkins and wiped down the spot closest to the wall at the counter facing the window. I essentially tucked myself into a corner to have a place to eat that wasn’t filthy. A few minutes after I started eating, a couple of people walked in and the guy working informed them that he had another pizza about to come out of the oven if they wanted to wait for it. Why didn’t he tell me about that one?! He also offered up what sounded like details on a special or a promotion or something. So anyway– enough about him. The pizza really looks wonderful. Unfortunately, it didn’t taste very interesting. The crust was bland– although a great texture of crunchy on the outside and very pillowy on the inside. The cheese was nice and thin and the amount of toppings per slice seemed fair. The sauce, like the crust, was nothing special. It was priced fair. I paid less than $ 5 for a ¼ of a large pizza. Oh, I almost forgot. There was a hair cooked into the crust of my slice. I eat pizza in a bit of a weird way. If I just ate it like everyone else I may not have noticed. I enjoy taking the bone part of the crust, tearing it off of the slice, opening it up and sticking some of the toppings and cheese in it. It is like having a pizza taco. When I opened up the bone of the crust, that’s where I found the hair– cooked into the middle. It was black and straight, maybe an inch in length. I really didn’t want to deal with the guy working there again, so I just threw the rest of my food away and left.

Sals is usually pretty good. I enjoy their pizzas from time to time. However today I tried to switch it up and ordered a chicken parm calzone. That was a huge mistake. Awful! I cut it open and it was just chunks of baked chicken breasts with a small amount of sauce in the middle and some cheese. FYI they do not have breaded chicken therefore chicken parm is not really chicken parm at Sals. They did offer me a few different options to rectify the disgusting meal that was in front of me. I will still order their pizzas though, just stay away from what they call chicken parm.

Sals is a solid choice if you are looking to get a slice of pizza. There’s always a few options available that are ready to go. The pricing is fair and the pizza is like a quarter of a pizza which is considered one slice. The only downside to this location is that it is at what I call hooker corner. Stay away at night. The hookers use the ambulance place across the street as a pick up and drop off point for their business. I know this because I broke down in this parking lot one night and saw all of this go down over and over again for a few hours while waiting for the tow. Good people watching location if you like that kind of people watching I guess.

Great pizza and wings can’t complain. Gave them a four star because they forgot the blue cheese and I had none at home.

I am erring on the side of a higher rating. I really do like Sal’s pizza. Maybe the toppings I have been less than impressed with shouldn’t sway me since the base pizza is always good. Yeah, stick with the basics, once you go too far afield, the pizza just starts tasting weird. I love me a mushroom pizza but the mushrooms at Sal’s impart some sort of off taste. Skip the mushrooms here. Great value for the money. Pizza is huge. Crust is good and bready/chewy at the ends but thin in the middle. The 4 stars is for this location only. Sal’s is a franchise and all locations turn out pizza’s a little differently. One downer, they close at 8 every night but Saturday. If you go after 7, the slice options are slim to none.

Holy Crap, I love Sal’s. If you’re looking for flavorful, affordable and delicious pizza, then Sal’s is the place to go. I loved going here when I lived on the East Coast. There are several locations too and they all produce good quality stuff. I would order the cheese or hawaiian pizza most of the time. The pizza slices are friggin’ huge! They also have some of the moistest chocolate cupcakes I’ve ever had. They melt in your mouth. The service is usually fast and no-nonsense. I know they have franchises, but nothing close to me in CA.(Sal’s — Look into a franchise in the Pacific Beach area out here… you’d be a hit!) I would probably drive an hour out of my way to get this pizza if that helps. It’s that good! I miss you Sal’s. I miss you.

Great pizza, large portions, but very hit or miss folks behind the counter. Without a good manager around the staff will start shutting down shop hours before closing, dramatically cutting down on options available to customers.

I’ve been a fan of Sal’s for years. Yummy, New York style pizza. Huge slices for a great price! and great cupcakes :) Oh, and the large cheese only $ 9.99! The downside is this place closes very early for a pizza place @ 8:30pm.

I used to be a huge fan of Sal’s. In the last 10yrs they have gone down hill I’m regards to quality. The last large my family had from them was extremely soggy and overall unpressive.
