I booked two rooms for my family coming to visit us in Hattiesburg. The first room checked in on 28 Jun 2014. Before making the reservations I stopped by the hotel in person to check the rooms. They allowed me to check a room similar to the rooms I wanted to book for my family’s stay. The room I check was great, clean, smelled nice, and everything worked. Upon checking my mother-in-law in for the night the clerk issued me room 112. Once we entered the room to get her settled in we noticed the room was in various stages of disrepair. There were no drawers in the dresser, one light fixture that was inoperable, another with a missing bulb, no coffee maker, burned comforters on the beds, a toilet that constantly ran, and it was a smoking room although I had requested a non smoking room due to my mother-in-laws COPD condition. She slept for the night because we were unable make contact with the clerk again, even utilizing the after hours desk window. The next morning I promptly checked with the clerk at 9am, he was courteous and helpful. He told me we never should’ve put her in that room because it was listed as under repairs. He then moved her to room 101. This time I physically checked the room before leaving the hotel. This room was a single bed, despite requesting a double, and was filthy. The floors were littered with small dead pill bugs, the trash was not emptied and the bathroom was very dirty. I notified the clerk and he again offered to switch us to another room. Mind you that I was moving my mother-in-law’s luggage from each room to the next. He then issued us room 129. Upon checking that room it was livable in a matter that would allow me to let my mother-in-law stay without guilt, however it was still a single bedroom and I reserved a double bed. The next morning when I went to pick her up I asked her how her stay was and she told me that the refrigerator was not working and there were crumbs and dead bugs in the bed. She isn’t one to complain over small tedious things, she’s the type of woman that despite her illness will clean small messes even if a simple room service call was made. So I made sure the refrigerator was indeed not working and it was not. At this point I had had enough of moving her from room to room and losing sleep not knowing whether or not she was safe, comfortable, or in a proper hotel room. So I met with the clerk this morning to cancel the remainder of her reservation and the reservation beginning today for the remainder of my family that will be arriving at 4:40. I don’t know if there is a system in place to control the quality of the hotels by corporate entities, but I think that someone ought to check this particular hotel out. This was the review that I had posted to their corporate webpage and have not received a response as of yet but its only been a matter of minutes. I will update when I hear back. I cannot recommend loudly enough that you avoid this place unless you have no option. ***UPDATE*** This past weekend a gentleman from corporate called and we spoke regarding my review. He comp’ed all the costs and assured me someone would be inquiring further at the actual location.
