I have never felt the need to write a review for anything, but after my experience with Matchbox I feel as if it is my moral obligation to warn others of this business. I rented from Matchbox for three years, and this was, by far, the biggest mistake that I made during my time in Harrisonburg. This place preys on college students, plain and simple. My property manager, Cheyenne Bisbee, proved herself to be incompetent and unprofessional on numerous occasions. From miscellaneous charges, to delayed repairs, to grossly excessive charges ($ 600 for trash removal), this company will stop at nothing to charge their tenants. I know many people who have been victimized by them, myself included. I have worked in property management, so I have seen both sides of the tenant-​landlord relationship, I have never seen such ludicrous fines. There is a reason they are not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. What kind of company would return a security deposit back to its tenants, and weeks later ask for that money back, plus an extra fee, and blame all of it on «an error due to an administrative mistake.» There are many more stories of people being wronged by them, and I strongly urge you to reconsider if you are thinking of renting from them.
If for some reason you do decide to rent from Matchbox, take pictures of everything upon move-​in. They will not hesitate to slam you with fines, and trust me, they are VERY good at finding things to charge you for.
