There are a lot of Japanese restaurants around this area and this one is my favorite!

YES. We finally found an authentic, awesome sushi place in the burbs! Menu is minimalistic(in a good way)…no lists of 30 rolls named after towns or landmarks… just straight up, solid sushi. The service is rushed but that’s not a problem as you can pace yourselves as you wish. Prices are very reasonable. And the fish is amazing… I had pieces of sake, hamachi, tamago, and toro and all were of fantastic quality and freshness. Next time we visit — and there WILL be a next time — we’ll be sitting at the sushi bar for omakase…

This place is a gem! Freshest fish, very tasty. I am a bit of a snob when it comes to fish, coming from the city and having Sasabune, Sushi Gari and Tomoe as favorites. Very happy to find this place. The owners are Japanese, they made sure we were comfortable and liked the food, lovely couple. Will be coming back, this is so far the best sushi place in Westchester

One of the best sushi places in NY. Great traditional sushi spot where the sushi melts in your mouth!

Far and away the best sushi in the Westchester area. Super-cozy environment with green tea walls and classical music on the stereo; friendly service; and, most importantly, great fish, perfect rice and a wide selection of vegetarian and non-sushi entrees. Highly recommend!

Entertaining Japanese Sushi chef from Osaka! It’s getting harder and harder to find Japanese-owned sushi restaurants. Easily accessible from the Harrison train station. I would definitely recommend getting the lunch specials, especially the Chirashi sushi. They are open for lunch from Noon until 2:30, Tuesday — Saturday.

Excellent and authentic(owner operated, Sam the chef is from Osaka), frequented by lots of Japanese expats, best endorsement. The Sushi and Sashimi Deluxe are perfect, make sure also to try the Mixed Japanese Pickles.

Thought the food was fresh and service was decent. This place was recommended multiple times to me from different people so it definitely seems to be a popular restaurant in Westchester. It was my second time there and I would go back for a third time. I will say that the prices are VERY reasonable compared to other sushi restaurants and fresh. If you’re not a wasabi lover make sure to let them know, they tend to add a lot of wasabi to all the sushi rolls.

I always look for authentic food and this you get here. There guests are mostly Japanese who probably would not go for Americanized Japanese cuisine. Very polite staff and food was very good. Excellent sushi and a great beef teriyaki.

Hajime’s food is great. The sushi is the best in the area. The only downside is that the service is not the best. But overall hajime is awesome.

Taste was good. But service was terrible. A chef was always speaking to himself that is so annoying. When I got a plate back after finish, he rejected and threw it to jut next to me. A waiter looked to the master of this restaurant rather than customers, he stopped to have my order when the master told him to do something. I had various impolite behaviors here but they never apologized and said«thank you come again!». Never see them again!

This place is a gem and cannot be compared to those weird pan fusion pan Asian restaurants littering Mamo avenue. The sushi here is just amazing(try the temaki with toro and scallion). We have ate our way through the menu and love the chicken Katsu, fish specials, and the nabeyaki udon. Sake list is great and very reasonably priced. I really like this place – the fish is pristine and the food tastes very authentic. This is the real deal.

Sushi was fresh, with some exotic options in the menu. All in all it was ok. One sushi chef laughed at me when I asked for unagi sauce(eel sauce). Literally asked him 5 times and when he gave it to me he was real stingy. When I asked for a little more he laughed again. Made me feel uncomfortable. Just plain rude. Probably won’t go back again.

Cozy and quaint neighborhood sushi joint that can compete with the best of Manhattan. Sam, the chef and owner, is always hospitable and brings some serious culinary skills to the table — don’t miss his Toro Tartare. Also, he typically has some interesting cuts of fish, for example fluke tail, which I would describe as the rib eye of fluke.

The freshest sushi to die for. Everything about this GEM is fantastic. This is my go to sushi spot anytime I’m anywhere near Harrison, NY.

Seems this is a local favorite as the host seemed to know many of the guest names. For us, the food was average for Westchester and as compared to the other japanese food 5 min away in Mamaroneck where we live. California roll ratio of rice to crab/etc was too high. Teriyaki chicken was dry maybe as it was skinless and pan fried, not grilled as other places where you get a better flavor, and also not sauced enuf. Nabeyaki udon was not ok. Regular sashimi was not bad but for $ 22 arguably u get more at other surrounding japanese places.

I loved the food but one thing the spinach they had was not warm it was cold. But the sushi was one of the best I had ever had especially the salmon. The chicken teriyaki was the best I had ever had. In the drinks they add very little ice but they give you free water and free refills but no ice in the water. I would give it a five but the spinach was cold and they give you very little ice.

The freshest fish around! The seaweed is also very fresh and crunchy like it’s supposed to be. My husband and I have been coming here for years, and are never disappointed. We always sit at the sushi bar and Sam, the head sushi chef and owner, always takes care of us. Tonight we ordered omakase. Everything was fabulous! I don’t understand any of the reviewers who say that the staff is rude. I have never been treated rudely and in fact just the opposite. If you like real, authentic Japanese then this is the place for you.

I’ve always found it interesting when I come to Hajime restaurant that they seat me in the back of the restaurant in the section of least preferable tables. Tonight, when I asked to sit in a booth away from the kitchen door I was initially told«no» because they were«reserved» although all six booth tables were empty. It wasn’t until we decided to leave that they agreed to seat me there. Another customer looked at me and said she always experienced the same thing and that she feels they seat people next to the kitchen door saving the«better» tables for the ethnically desirable Asian customers. Interesting. She may have a point. It’s an hour and a half later and I’m still sitting here alone. No one has shown up for a reservation so that was certainly a lie. I’m only giving one star for the food.
