Gosh. I love this place. The back story is I’ve been thinking about brewing for years. I stopped in a few years back and spoke to Laurie but didn’t take the plunge. Life happened. So a friend gets a gallon kit and brews. Jon is giving me nearly day to day updates on his brew. Finally comes over with a few. I was hooked. Sent a few emails got quick responses. Stopped and got my 5 gallon kit! Laurie is so great you just wanna eat her up with a spoon. She helped me pick my stuff out. Gave me discounts. Let me trade stuff in that I didn’t need. A wonderful buying experience ! And I did it! Brewed a 5 gallon batch. It’s only been a week but my wife and i are pretty stoked about it. And I had a few questions today called and got jack on the phone. Great customer skills. He needs a raise boss! Thanks again jack for all your help and ideas. We will be stopping by here often. Also. I let to save where I can. Having checked online I couldn’t believe how much better pricing Blackhawk is. Kris Hamilton Salado

I’m not the shopping type of person, but I always look forward to going here! I got into homebrewing about December after my fiancé got me a starter kit. I had found this place through a web search when I needed to start picking up some more supplies and pieces of equipment for my small homebrew operation. When I looked at their website, there were a lot of ingredients to choose from. The shopping experience is great. They have a wide variety and basically anything you’ll need to get started. It was very neat to see that there were kits for wine, cider, cheese, etc. If they don’t have it, they are sure to point you in the right direction to get what you need. They have plenty of ready-made kits for sale right off the shelf too! Each time I’ve gone in to get a few things, the owners are always so very helpful and have great suggestions and insight about homebrewing. They can help you determine what sort of grains or yeasts are needed for your brews, and are a source of good feedback and troubleshooting on your own projects. I was very surprised to find a supplier that had this much stock and variety at such decent prices. Compared to online shopping and proximity in town, they really are a strong competitor. They also have a good deal of literature you can buy on brewing or cheesemaking, and even have a few recipe books up front that can be a good source of inspiration for your next project. I’m so glad I found this place, and it had been a pleasure doing business with these guys!

Came here a newbie with a good knowledge of the basics of brewing but have never actually tried it out. The lady, I’m assuming is the owner, was very helpful, and actually made me feel very comfortable, she showed us all the grains and even let us smell and taste one, very cool! I will definitely be returning soon. 5 stars+++++ check them out!

Awesome people, very knowledgable and humble. Can’t say enough good things in one review, even if you are brand new to home brew. Go there!

Stopped in here after hearing their radio ad. They have jerky making supplies, cheese making, wine and beer brewing. I was looking for jerky stuff and they had what I needed. Also my shopping companion went home with a free magazine about homebrewing which was nice. I don’t know much about home brewing but it looks like they have anything you could want.

This is a small store but their stock of grain and yeast compares to that of Austin Homebrew easily. They carry everything you need to get started making beer or wine, and any specialty items they do not carry they are happy to order for you. A very laid-back environment. My husband and I found this store after it had been open a few months and were sad that we moved away from it. It isn’t that you can’t get what you need elsewhere. You just don’t have the same experience shopping at a huge store. Here, you will get to know the staff and they will be great resources for you when you have questions, whether you are new to brewing or seasoned.

My girlfriend and I recently moved to the area but have been looking at home brewing for a while. We decided to go to the Harker Heights Wine and Beer festival a couple of months ago and came upon Black Hawk Brewing Supply, which was doing a brewing demonstration. We picked up some information about them that day. A few weeks later we decided to go check it out. When we got there, we were helped immediately. Even though we were complete newbies, they explained everything to us, answered all of our questions, and really made us feel welcome. We bought a startup kit, some bottles, and a beer kit. Since then my girlfriend and I have been in there a quite a few times. Every time, our questions are answered and we are helped with what we need. They even have their own recipes for beer that they will give you. They will even help you figure out what grains you need depending on the method of brewing you will be doing and the recipe. The owners run the shop and they are extremely knowledgeable. Their prices are reasonable and they even have wine making supplies. We haven’t delved into that realm yet though. Maybe eventually, but for now, just beer. They even have these cool little cheese making kits there if you want to do that. Last weekend we went in and decided we wanted to do a partial mash based on a recipe they had. We were helped all the way through from having the grains ground and put together for us, to the kind of malt extract, hops, and yeast we were supposed to use. It was all explained to us too so that we would understand it. We went that night and brewed our beer. It is now fermenting successfully. Looks like so far we did it right! This is actually the very first time that I have written a review on a company because I was so happy with it. If you are looking into getting into home brewing, check these guys out. It’s a small shop but they will have what you need. Very honest people too. I have actually been talked out of buying some things I didn’t need. They don’t pressure you into buying anything, which is one thing I dislike about going into some businesses.
