Wei Wei Pan Asian Eatery

Food was pretty good. We came in because we had a Groupon. We will definitely come back. Nice, casual order at the counter & seat yourself kind of place.

Like many, I picked up a Groupon to check this place out. Since it was expiring in about a month, my girlfriend and I decided we’d better use it. Our experience was okay, but we don’t know if we’ll go back.
The place is extremely clean, and I like that they have the menu printed on 2 large signs, making it easy to read. You can also see directly back into the kitchen, which is nice. Soft drinks are serve yourself, and other beverages are brought to you.
My girlfriend wanted the Pad Thai, and I ended up ordering the Lemon Grass, after the woman behind the counter said she liked it. Neither one of us was impressed with the food. The Pad Thai was kind of sweet, and gummy, and not what my girlfriend expected. The woman behind the counter said the lemon grass was a sweet dish, and it wasn’t. It was salty more than anything, and I could barely smell the lemongrass used in it. Neither one of us finished out servings (which were large), and we didn’t bother asking for takeout containers.
Our Groupon covered the cost of dinner, but we didn’t know that until after she ran our check. Once we’d ordered, I mentioned I had the Groupon and handed it to the woman behind the counter. She took it and crossed it off their list, and then closed our check. Dinner was $ 18.50, Groupon was $ 20. I don’t mind if what I’m purchasing doesn’t use the entire Groupon, but usually when that happens, I get asked if I want to add anything. This woman didn’t say a thing.
In the end, dinner was okay, but not great. I don’t think we’ll be returning, but it was a chance to get out and explore places to eat I wouldn’t otherwise go to.

I love this place. Very clean, staff is nice. I always get the cousin drunken noodles dish. YUUUMMM! I also love the crab wontons. oh hell, it’s all good!

can’t say I enjoyed any part of it. the pad thai was undercooked and soaked in very watery sauce… and the appetizer sticks weren’t very fresh. cannot see myself going back ever.

Great local take out… love that they offer brown rice. Good variety of Asian food.

I never would have tried this place without a groupon. But I’m sold. Hubby and I kept thinking of the ‘wee wee’ review as well. But to avoid any con“fusion”, I was thinking of it more as «oui oui» I mean with all this fusion, why not throw some french yes’s into the mix, cause this mix is damn good, oui oui.
But if you like spicy, order it spicy! Whatever you do, do NOT con“fuse” it with Panda Express, that would be WEI, WEI off base. This is a family owned piece of delectable, fast-​ish food heaven, without WEI too many choices to con“fuse” you. Yet the choices they do have will please pretty much everyone, and are interesting choices.
So I was prompted to use this groupon since I was going to try some new Trader Joe’s wines, and that’s right across the street. I feel really bad for the guy who was suggesting wines, cause I must have totally reeked of wasabi, pickled ginger, and garlic/​fish from the papaya salad. But he was really nice anyway.
So I love that almost everything is $ 1 off for happy hour, $ 2.50 crab puffs, entrees for like $ 6.75. «Wei» got a ton of stuff, for $ 25 ($ 5 after groupon). And had leftovers for 2 lunches!
$ 2.95 papaya salad!!! I’m a picky som-​tum eater, and this is probably #1 on my papaya testing list. Fresh, light, tangy, right amount of fish sauce.
$ 3.50 Sushi rolls, nice size, fresh, big hunks of imitation crab, yum! I’ll admit, I ate a leftover piece for breakfast, after my yogurt… you know, wasabi isn’t bad for breakfast lol.
$ 3.50 Crab puffs, pretty good, same portion we usually pay $ 5-​$ 6 for. And it’s $ 2.50 on happy hour!
$ 7.75 Mandarin Kung Pao beef (add spicy) of Delicousness, kung pao’ee wowee! Some of the best kung pao «wei’ve» had, and «wei’re» not a fan of most Kung Pao in Portland.
$ 7.75 Pad Thai, this «wei’d» probably skip next time. Decent flavor, but the noodles were kind of mushy, «wei» agreed to try something else next time.
Yes, I’ll probably spell «we» and «way» wrong for a while, this place is just stuck in my memory.
I have WEI too much more to say about this place, cool, simple atmosphere, comfy seating, awesome plates, great service considering you order at the counter. I’d love to get to-​go from this place, I’ll take 5 papaya salads, sushi rolls and kung pao beef please! Gotta make the happiness last a couple days! Oui, Oui to Wei Wei!

This place is a lot like Noodle Company in that it sells various restaurant type dishes in a fast food type of manner.
I went here a few weeks ago because it’s close to home and was pretty disappointed. My friend and I got two dishes but got a third because we were hoping it would be better than the first two. Ha!
There are too many other options on 82^nd for me to come here again. I would recommend picking what you’d like off the Wei Wei menu and then finding that item at real a Thai, Chinese etc. place.

Big portions! Good taste. Wifi is nice. Average prices. Comfy space. The wasibi may be old.

Wei Wei is A-​OK. I’m not going to get all excited about it because that’s all it is. OK. It was a lot better than I expected, considering that it was in a strip mall, I had expected it to be pretty bad. It is mostly definitely better than Noodles over at Town Center. The Drunken Noodles were good, but when something is advertised as being hot, I expect it to be hot, not mildly spicy. My girlfriend had the Kung Pao tofu, which was pretty tasty, but it didn’t really stand out from any others I’ve had. The portions were big, which made me happy after a long hike, and for the two of us it was less than $ 15 so I can’t really complain.
Wei Wei is good, and I would go there before I went to most other strip mall Asian food establishments such as Panda Express, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it when there are so many good Pad Thai places in Portland.

It has essentially the same menu as P. F. Chang’s Pei Wei, but it isn’t as good. Nice people, fast service, but I didn’t even touch my leftovers. If you want good Asian, try Arawan, it’s in the same complex. Hopefully I was just there on a bad day, I wanted to like it.

On reviews of fellow Unilocalers the kids and I decided to try this place out. Not sure why we haven’t stopped in before. It’s only been there for years and is maybe 5 minutes from the house.
I kept remembering Chris L.‘s words about wee-​wee vs. way-​way and couldn’t help but laugh as we got to the counter. Heehee.
We checked out the menu for a bit and the kids all decided on a meal rather quickly, an amazement in my family. I was going with Chris’ recommendation and was going to have the Orange Chicken.
From years of having a house load of my kids and foster kids they know the drill. Single file, place your order and get out of the way. Kinda like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld, although they call me the «Nazi Mom».
Kids ordered, I ordered, we got our number and went to the table. We put our number in the little metal stand and sat down. ICK! The table was sticky. The kids checked out other tables and they were all sticky but they looked thoroughly cleaned. We stayed at our original table.
As my germ-​a-​phobe daughter was wiping the table down with hand sanitizer our food came out. Man, that was fast, and it looked delicious. Kid after kid exclaimed «Man this is the best _​_​_​_​_​_​_​I’ve ever had». Well, except one that had never has rice noodles and he was a bit freaked out by their texture and flavor.
All together we had teriyaki bowls, orange chicken, California rolls, wei-​wei rice noodle bowl (should have been a clue to him right there) and crab wonton. It was all pretty good and definitely worth a second visit. I’ll always think of Chris L. when ordering the orange chicken.
The best thing was that for five kids and myself it was under $ 40.00!

On my first visit I thought it was pronounced Wee-​Wee. You know the universal phrase for having to take a leak. Yes squared in French.
But au contraire, mon frère. Not so fast, Tinkley Winkely. I quickly realized the error in my pronunciation judgment when I boisterously ordered the «Wei-​Wei Orange Chicken» to the delight of those in line behind me. It didn’t help that guy behind the counter looked at me as if I just asked them to include little boy ding dongs with my order. Did you want white or brown rice with that? Circumcised or with a turtle neck?
I might as well of just asked for the R. Kelly special. And a Corona to wash it down.
So in case you’re curious and want to avoid embarrassment, it’s actually pronounced Way-​Way. And spelled just like the popular Mandopop singer and actress (thanks Wikipedia… what would I do without you).
As a long time fan and first time caller of their Orange Chicken, I was pleasantly surprised. To be honest, I’m kind of an orange chicken crack whore, frequently craving the Panda Express’ version late at night or after a drawn out bout with the green herb fairy. So when I say the shit (or would it be the piss) from Wei-​Wei is tits, you know I’m not just peeing on your leg and telling you its raining. It’s good. Real good.
So if you’re a fan of Orange Chicken like me urine for a treat.
And the JOHNSON Creek location (yeah, I said Johnson, Beavis) is right next to a Mexican food establishment that the TLB likes to frequent, so we can both satisfy our specific food cravings in one trip. Bonus.
I will say that to my great disappointment, Wei-Wei’s doesn’t have a Pu Pu platter on their menu… I guess that would be asking for just too much comic gold.

Great food at a price barely over fast food. Awesome staff who let’s my kid play with the toys on the register.

I LOVE this place! They have the best Teriaki rice bowl! I love that you can have steamed brown rice instead of white, and the veggies that come with it are YUM! Wei Wei has a great laid back atmosphere, but I have always taken my food to go. A must try!

Was drawn in here by the sign on 82^nd Ave. advertising Early Bird Specials which turned out to be $ 1 off most entrees. Nice menu, but a snotty young woman behind the counter seemed pretty put out I showed up for dinner. Two other young people showed up to work later that seemed nicer. Good, fast Pan-​Asian food.

My favorite item on the menu and what I order literally every time is the Teriyaki Bowl with Chicken and carrots and broccoli instead of the cabbage. Best thing ever!
My boyfriend really enjoys the curry with tofu bowl.
I definitely recommend this place, but only if you’re not looking for a fancy lunch/​dinner. This is more of a casual dining.

We stumbled upon this place just because it was across the parking lot from Home Depot and we were too hungry and lazy to go anyplace else for lunch.
I was expecting some Panda Express thing. What a great surprise. The interior is bright but rich. Like other similar places, you order in line and they deliver your food to your table.
I had the Cousin Thai with beef and it was truly amazing. Probably the best Pan Asian food I’ve had in Portland at this very modest price. The portion was perfect. The place was nearly empty, which I don’t understand. But it made it easier to take lots of time. It has free WiFi, all the more reason to order and linger.

After a little Home Depot jaunt, I popped into Wei Wei and found the atmosphere really elegant for what it is. It had that Starbucks-​ie «third place» feel to it (not work, not home, just somewhere you enjoy being).
I had a chicken teriyaki sushi roll which I think was something like $ 5 and more than I could finish myself. I love when sushi has something just cooked in it that makes the rice all warm and squishy. Plus there was a sweet sauce and I loves sweets AND sauces.
Since they make everything fresh, I figured I’d have a small sake to help pass the time while I snuggled into a lovely velvet chair. It was also under $ 5 and more than I could finish. Though I think that was because it smacked a little of warm chardonnay to me for some reason. Kitty seldom walks away from alcohol.
The staff seemed to take a lot of pride in their work, like they actually didn’t mind being there. How nice is that!
The noodle bowls were mammoth and the other diners looked happy. I’ll totally go back — really great location if you’re running errands on 82^nd.

This is one of the few things I’ll miss about southeast Portland.
It looks like a corporate chain. It’s very clean and minimalist and everyone wears polo shirts. Then, the first time I was there, I saw like four older guys watching the action, which got me to thinking.
So I asked the busser and no, it’s family owned.
FUCK yeah!
I haven’t tried the whole menu but what I’ve tried I’ve really liked.
You stand in line to order, but then they run the food and bus the tables. This seems to be the new procedure in casual eating.
Maybe they’ll open another one somewhere by Lloyd Center. Uptown would be too much to ask for.
