Stopped by after we walked on the swinging bridge across the street. The smell of fresh baked bread was to hard to ignore. Husband had a slice of pizza and I had chocolate bread pudding. Both were great. Purchased a loaf of sourdough and rosemary bread. Get here early for best selection.

We just happened to wander into this bakery, and it may be the best find we’ve had in a long time. We(3) each had a different pastry, and each was terrific. We plan to meet Evan at a farmers’ market for more goodies and drive back to Hanapepe from Poipu tomorrow(Friday) for his pizza. Another reviewer bemoaned the guy working there; that wasn’t Evan. I’m not strict on organic but listening to Evan can almost make me that way. We was very knowledgeable about baking and ingredients, and was easy to talk with. His products are as good as Bouchon’s but more«down home.» Can’t wait to try the pizza!

I had their sweet hawaiian rolls and croissants and they were both super fresh and tasty. I came here two days in a row because it’s the best bakery on the island.

Yes, the bread was AMAZING! The hippie guy taking our order New Year’s day? Not so much. Nice old guy but should NOT be at the front of the house. He asked me THREE times what I wanted and then had no idea they were out of it. And touching filthy money, his nose, and then my croissant? I was almost apoplectic! Like I said, the food was great but the food handling was anything but hygienic. Big double Ewwwwwwwwww!!!

Got the roasted vegetable tartine, and my sister got the avocado tartine. Both were delicious! Freshly made, nice presentation, and the bakery itself has a lovely open feel to it with lots of natural light.

Great bread and other baked items. We grab some of their items during the art night and we were really glad we did. I’d go back and try more items next time.

We wandered into Midnight Bear this afternoon, after the bumpy road from Polihale. I had the avocado tartine, and my fiancé ordered the ham and cheese. Both were prepared beautifully, with fresh ingredients, and they tasted as yum as they looked. Then we ordered something decadent, invented by the owners. It was basically the dough and filling of a chocolate croissant, folded over and over itself, a compact thing of chocolate-y goodness. I liked the spare décor, lots of wood, elegant ceiling fans, big windows. The food was on par with what I’d expect from a gourmet café in our neighborhood in Brooklyn.

The Macadamia Nut Pesto Chicken Pizza was out of this world. You cannot go wrong stopping by for a slice and exploring the quaint art galleries of Hanapepe(or as a quick stop on your way to nearby Waimea or Port Allen).

Amazingly delicious and fresh *organic* bread. Initially I was skeptical on how good a place could be in Kauai, far removed from urban America, but this place was superb. Soft, cloud-like cinnamon raisin loaf was the biggest hit with the kids and parents. Even the ham and cheese sandwich(didn’t expect much) had a wonderfully flavorful smoked ham and creamy gouda on the best ciabatta — perfect to take on the road or for a hike. Pizza slices was pretty good too although on the more expensive side, for a place that is already pricey. But most important thing is that everything was great, of course costs are going to add up on an island where most ingredients have to be imported.

Hidden gem. Had a wonderfully flaky chocolate croissant. The chocolate is a dark French variety. We got there in the late afternoon so they were already out of several items. Fridays are a busy day for them and they will have their pizzas available at the Friday night art walk. The owner was really nice and welcoming.

If you’re in Kauai, don’t skip this little artsy town, particularly on a Friday! This bakery serves up some awesome Zza(pizza) on Friday evenings during the art stroll. The shop itself is a little unassuming and simplistic, there were some empty shelves and only a few tables, BUT don’t let that fool you, the food speaks for itself! We snagged two chocolate croissants(SO good!) and two slices of pizza(though I only got a photo of one, my husband took a huge bite out of it before I could snap a pic). I’m a sucker for a local spot and even more so if they have a nice logo, which they absolutely do and I so wish they’d have some handmade mugs and screen printed tank tops with it on there. I absolutely would have purchased them if so. Oh! And they also have some sort of fancy cold brew coffee maker thing that sits on the counter and is about three feet tall. It’s very cool!(But if you follow me on Unilocal you know I’m a tea drinker so I did not partake) Anyways, GOHERE!!!

What a cool place. I wish we had time to eat a loaf of bread, but we were leaving the island the next day. So we stuck with a croissant and a macadamia nut cinnamon roll. The croissant was good, but the cinnamon roll was the winner. I will definitely get this again. We stumbled upon this place on the drive to Waimea Canyon. It’s in the oldest town on Kauai. A cool little town one block off the main HWY.

We stopped in during the Friday Art Night(which was very fun). I went in thinking I would try the foccocia but hey didn’t have it at the moment so I got the super six seed loaf. This gluten free Super Six Seed loaf might be the best gluten free bread I’ve EVER had. It’s amazing and a must try.

This is a small boutique bakery in Old Town Hanapepe. This is a great place to make a side stop or make it the destination for some of the most authentic and delicious breads and pastries I’ve had anywhere in the islands. Don’t think of the chain bakeries of Oahu… think of a quaint artisan bakery where the bakers are covered in flour and you see them at work baking. The selection is not vast but what they have is varied enough to have a great mix of baked items. Their Mac-nut cinnamon rolls are out of this world. Not too sweet and tender and delicious. The almond croissants are the best I’ve had outside of Paris! Not too flakey just the right amount of marzipan and almonds on top. Perfect mixture of texture and sweetness. There’s a variety of pastries on daily, as well as breads. Too bad they didn’t have a store in Honolulu as they would be a great addition to Honolulu’s bakery scene. The owners and service are great.

This is seriously great bread! If it were available at home we would buy it regularly. As it is, we will take what’s left home in my carry on. We may even buy an extra loaf to freeze and bring home. It reminds me of my late, beloved KC in-laws who used to bring an empty suitcase when visiting their daughter in Miami to bring back rye bread they found there that was exceptional. But I digress. Yesterday Alan bought a loaf of these folks’ 9-Grain Wheat bread at Sueoka’s. We had it w/peanut butter this morning at breakfast and it totally blew our socks off. Heavy, grainy, sliced just thin enough w/seeds on the crust. Fabulous stuff. We may have to go to Hanapepe to see if they have an outlet there.
