Worst meal we’ve had in a very long time. The food was not prepared as ordered, the salmon entrée came with approximately 2 oz. of fish, and it was extremely over priced. Very disappointing. We will never go back!!!

Great food — great service — comfortable seating after driving from place to place. Beer bread was delicious!

Keeping in mind it’s a tavern this place is great. 99 varieties of beer and many wines gets it off to a great start. I would not recommend the greens and beans as there very tart, however the seafood chowder and the baked Brie appetizers were very good. Shrimp jambalaya is a big portion and was very good. We were here on a Friday night and they had an amazing piano player. Definitely a good value. Great service and friendly place. Check it out

While passing thru Hammondsport we found the taverns appearance to be very inviting, greeted and seated with a smile on a chilly afternoon. the menu has great appeal and Made decision making difficult(always a plus). We settled on the meatball sliders for my wife and the Brooklyn burger for me. The flavors were great, the quality of the ground beef was awesome. And the combination of the cheese and Pastrami made for an incredible burger. The draft beer selection was impressive also. The server could have been a bit friendlier as the rest of the staff made him look a bit drab. But a great lunch in a beautiful town on a beautiful fall afternoon.

If I could give no stars I would. Over priced. Poor service. Mediocre food. Never coming back. If expletives were allowed on Unilocal, they’d be in this review.

Very Very disappointed. Have not been at this establishment for over a year. Used to be very good food. Not anymore. We were met at the door by the owner. Very friendly and helpful. Greeted at our table by a nice young fairly new waitress. Very pleasant young girl. It all went down hill from there… Fly’s surrounded our entire dining stay. Buzzed our table and food entire time. But that’s not the worst… the food arrival topped that. Fish in parchment paper was a huge disappointment. Cheap swai fish that was super thin, no flavor and prepared by someone who should not be in the kitchen. Only $ 18 for that. A bargain in this place. My dining mates had other non exciting choices. The whopper was a $ 32 Osso Buco. A lamb based dish that the male dinner said was good, but for sure pricey considering the atmosphere and conditions. My other dining companion had the beef tips. It was $ 21 and surely not worth the money. Came out at a cool temperature and had it sent back to reheat. I think the chef has surely changed in the last year, and is not up to the choir of a restaurant asking $ 18 to $ 32 for a entrée. Village Tavern has a great location and atmosphere, and had few table filled at prime time dinning hour on a Thursday night in wine visiting season. I think lots of locals and out of town visitors have gotten the word that this establishment is not worth your presence at dinner or let alone your Visa or Master Card imprint.

We just dined at the Tavern this evening. We arrived just before the kitchen closed at 9pm yet the owner and entire staff were amazing! The wine and entrees were incredible and our kids had a great time too! I can see why this place has received so many awards. We will definitely return!

Been all over the world and this is a gem of a small restaurant. I had the chowder cup as my appetizer and was absolutely blown away. The color was a creamy red, the flavor was delicious and the chunks of bacon and seafood inside was just enough. Love the crackers that accompanied it as well. Had the clams linguine as my entrée and everything was fresh and made with a light white wine, onion and garlic sauce. Great beer selection. I chose a local IPA. It sits right on the corner opposite the town square and their was a smattering of people walking and driving through which added to the ambiance. Very nice interior with bench, table and bar seating. They also offered outside tables which I would try next time since the town square has its own charm. All in all the staff was very friendly and not overwhelming. Could go on about a lot of the good aspects but I’ll leave something for you to discover when you visit.

Had a terrible experience here. We had a party of 12 so we called to make a reservation early in the day. They claimed they could accommodate us. We arrived and they had our table ready. We had one waiter who gave us each a number to keep track of our separate checks. It took a good 30 minutes to finally get all of our drinks and get our order in. After an hour our appetizers finally came out. It was already 830 at this point and we were ready to get moving. it took about 30 more minutes for a good to come out. While everyone’s food tastes great, someone had to send their burger back because it was completely wrong and there were side orders forgotten. When it came time to doing checks, we asked if we could help and he claimed he had it all numbered and ready to go — 45 long minutes later he showed up with not one single check correct, and said it would be another 45 minutes to void everything back out and redo them. We added everything up ourselves and gave him cash, but we’re extremely disappointed in our service. We didn’t have difficult bills, or anything special. I would not recommend this place to large groups. They CANNOT accommodate you. Also, at the beginning of our service, waiting for our drinks a girl noticed there was a black bug in the salt shaker, so I gave it to our waiter who picked it up, and then sat it on the table beside us and left it there. Great work, Sir. We didn’t notice that at all.

This is a real neighborhood spot. There is an inn with several rooms upstairs(check in at the bar), some outdoor seating, and some tables inside behind a long bar. Everything is a bit dark and reminiscent of your local tavern. Their wine list is extensive. They have bottles and bottles of wine that even the local wineries themselves don’t have anymore! We had the meat and cheese plate. The cheese was great and there was so much of it that we had to ask for more crackers. Only 3 rolled pieces of salami, but the balsamic is of very high quality! The bartender was also a gem. Next time we’re in town, we’ll look into the rooms here

We stopped in at 9 pm on a Saturday night and though there were about 5 parties eating and it says here that they close at 10, they said that the kitchen was closed and turned us away. This placed was recommended to us several times while checking out the area wineries and everyone said the food was great. Unfortunately, we were not able to try it. Please honor your posted hours!

Dropped in for a late lunch today. Quite a busy lunch crowd. The portions were very generous. I really enjoyed the smoked turkey. The french onion soup was excellent, as well. Great end to an awesome day of wine tasting along the west side of Keuka Lake.

Stopped for lunch. We never got to try the food though because after the host sat us down we waited for 10 minutes without even being asked what we would like to drink. We just got up and walked out. BTW… it was NOT busy in there… maybe 3 booths were filled.

A little pricey but the food is very good. We ate lunch with a party if 7 and both service and food was excellent. We would go back.

We stopped here on our way back from spending the day around Keuka Lake. The crab cake and jambalaya entrees were flavorful, and portions were large so we felt worth the price. Our main disappointment was the wine and beer portions — the wine pouring was barely over 3oz and the beer was hardly 8oz. We complained to our server and were told the pouring amount was accurate but they has switched to bigger glasses so it made it look small — huh?. Given they are competing with the wineries and breweries maybe they feel they can provide smaller alcohol portions but for the price we paid for each glass, it was a rip off esp since we didn’t go wine tasting that day and wanted to try some local offerings.

Overpriced and pushy staff working here. Apparently you can’t be there 2 min without having to order something. Food is ok, but no way is that price. They should clean the face of this place, and probably train their staff on manners(not only sales techniques).

Food was good but WAY overpriced! Lots of other great, and reasonably priced places nearby. Find them!

Beer bread was excellent, we begged for more(and got it). Fish fry was crunchy and fresh, blackened catfish was spicy and flavorful. If you go for nothing else go for the Sangria, it’s to die for!

Small town america on the town square! Well, the building looks like an old tavern with apartments above. The small town fell goes well with the area and wonderful drive around Finger Lakes. But to the menu part, it is the size of a phone book! Its 99+ bottles of beer and about a dozen drafts, oh yeah about ten pages of wines, with two more of drinks! DONOT bring anyone who is indecisive, unless you have a designated driver. They do serve beer and wine in flights for taste testing. It is highly recommended, at least by me. I came for steak or seafood as they seemed to have good reviews on these. I had NY strip with smashed taters and asperagus. Really really good. My rare steak was red and still had searing on outside, nice light seasoning — it did not need help in the taste department. Steak had a little grissel, but it was a strip. They were out of scallops and that was a good chunk of evening’s menu. Well with the sea off the menu, the next option was coullete steak, a rib eye with cajun seasoning and a smoky blue cheese sauce. Well it was supposed to have smoky blue cheese sauce! Ask for extra sauce if you order coullete steak you will need it. They dish is good, but five stars is only a heartbeat away, oops a little sauce away. They may have the best french onion soup on the planet! Lots of cheese and a little less salt than most. The staff was very cordial, live music courtesy of two older gentlemen(mostly light blues). This is a good stop if you are in area. The restuarant is very dark, so you will have no idea what the prices are. I mean you may need extra light to read the phone book sized menu. I visited on a Saturday night, lots of people but lot more space than it looks.

Beers, beers, beers galore, on tap, in bottle and choose your own flights! and if beer isn’t what you fancy, wines, wines, wines galore and flights to boot! Not only is the beverage selection of this old-school tavern amazing, but the food rocked my socks like it was 5-stars! I had the ribs that fell off the bone and melted in my mouth while my taste-buds sang in praise of the tender meat and perfectly flavored sauce that wasn’t too sweet with just a hint of spice! The beer-battered french fries were cooked to that crispy on the outside perfection while soft on the inside. My boyfriend had their version of the rueben and lets just say it was a quiet meal… everyone was so busy savoring each morsel that we didn’t feel the need to chatter. His came with a delightful cucumber salad that I was compelled to steal and finish myself. OHHHHH… how I would frequent this place if only I lived in Rochester, completely worth the drive to see the lake and the tiny new england fishing town. P. S.S. YAY!!! This was my 100th Review! :D

A great hideaway. A few years ago, we started the tradition of going here for Easter Sunday based on the premise that Easter is actually quite a religious holiday but it’s turned into a big chocolate fest for children, our siblings are busy with their own families and it’s a Sunday and we’re always working the next day, so why not have a QUIET reflective date day? Church in the morning, a quiet and simple drive down Keuka, a romantic lunch in a quaint lakeside town. The Village Tavern was the destination we first chose for this annual event and it’s risen to the occasion every year. Yes, we’ve been here outside of Easter, but it’s always this beautiful conclusion of Lent, portending Spring(though rarely feels like it up here), that the restaurant has pleased me most. Inside feels like a rustic New England tavern; traditional and yet imposing. The bar on the right feels limitless and the bottled and draft beer selections are remarkably extensive. The baked brie appetizer here is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It is sickeningly good, and I beg you to try it. Like a creamy brie-filled croissant covered in a raspberry sauce with powdered sugar. So sinful. For entrees, I’ve typically had ham or prime rib on Easter. Both have been excellent. It’s the brie appetizer, though, that brings me back here again and again. If you’re on a drive around Keuka or doing some wine-tasting on an adjacent lake, take a detour and visit the Village Tavern.

After our original lunch plans fell through, we found ourselves eating here. And I’m glad we did. This place is great. Service was the only slight downside, friendly, but a little slow(c’mon people, I’ve got wine to taste!). Naturally they have a great wine selection. If you have been tasting wines in the area and are wondering what a well aged bottle of your favorite tastes like… this is your place. Large selection of local wines aged to perfection. Food was exactly what you want on a wine tasting trip. Filling and just a little bit foodie. We went with the escargots app and a sandwich each. I don’t remember exactly what sandwiches we got but they were both delicious. Make THIS place your lunch plans when doing the wine trail around Keuka… works perfectly if you are staying/starting in Penn Yan.
