Very good food for an amazing price. I love the staff they are always very friendly. We’ve been coming here for awhile and love it.

I gave this restaurant two chances to impress me, and it failed. Service is prompt and friendly. The ground meat in the taco had in unusual flavor and didn’t really go with the rest of the taco. The chicken enchiladas, on the other hand, were quite good. The enchiladas were served on top of the rice, a presentation which I’ve never found before nor did I find it particularly pleasing. I eat my rice with my beans, so I had to scrape them out from underneath to eat. The salsa is served warm and is not nearly spicy enough. However, if you ask for something hotter, they bring you a substance closely akin to liquid fire. Mixing it with the salsa makes an acceptable sauce. The obligatory Mexican music plays over the ceiling speakers throughout the restaurant, but right smack in the middle of the seating area is a TV that is permanently on a Hispanic station and(both times I was there) blaring loudly. Please pick one or the other — having both is beyond irritating. Décor is tacky with brownish-yellow walls, multicolored lights, slightly-battered tables and chairs, chipped Mexican ornaments that can be picked up at a yard sale in a poor neighborhood, the usual set of piñatas, and a gaudy glass chandelier that didn’t match anything at all. It was on the dark side and a little depressing. Prices are reasonable and the food filling, if not of high quality. This once-bustling section of Haltom City has seen better days so this restaurant is what one would expect. If you have the time and a few extra dollars, I recommend going further afield. Otherwise, there is a Taco Bell right across the street.

The salsa is horrible. This the first place that I refused to eat the salsa. Gross!!! The fajitas were dry and bland. The steak fajita was chewy. Chicken fajita way over cooked. The rice tasted old and dry. My first time and last time there. Please Don’t go there.

The place isn’t much to look at and fairly easy to miss when driving by, but the food is superb and very affordable. The restaurant itself is located in the Haltom Plaza shopping center and is well off the street, but there’s a sign next to the road directly in front of it. Once inside, you’ll notice right away that the previous tenant was a Chinese restaurant, as much of Chinese décor remains. It’s clear that the owner decided to invest more in his menu than redecorating, which is just fine by me. The food is as good or better than other restaurants where the prices are much higher. The service is great. There’s a separate dining area for large groups, great for meetups or large family or church gatherings. This is a great local family restaurant. Give it a try. You won’t regret it.

Been here twice. Both times had traditional dishes(beef enchiladas and chile relleno). Both were excellent. The warm salsa is delicious! I’m going back tonight to try a Mexican seafood dish. Updated 10−21−14: They’ve gone downhill a little :-(

Don Cruz is a local place with amazing Mexican Seafood. You can get the typical dishes, or try the mahi mahi, blackened catfish, or tilapia. It’s super fresh with great spices. Don’t be caught off guard by the Chinese super buffet garb… It’s Mexican food. I highly recommend!

For those who ate at El Taco the food may seem familiar. That’s because it is the same people who ran El Taco. They now have lots of space instead of that cramped kitchen and tiny dining area. The food is uniformly good and prices are reasonable. If you want to eat in a local restaurant run by local folks who care this is the place. Nothing fancy, just good Mexican food and nice people.

This place is a hidden little gem. Good food, very fresh. Only been once but I know my tex-mex!
