Straw Hat Pizza

Great Pizza. Ordered takeout. Was exactly on time promised. Excellent flavour, and garnished perfectly. Will definitely use this location again. Online coupons available. Ordered the Mexicalli with free pineapple. Coupon upgrade from medium to large a nice touch.

Cute finches that play in the little fountain in the outside seating area. Great pizza crust, crispy but not too thin. Delicious.

We went to Half Moon Bay to visit somebody and pass the hour of lunch time we looked for a place to eat and saw Straw Hut Pizza. We’ve been a fan of this pizza parlor until they closed their branch close to our place in the Peninsula. So we got excited when we saw one here in HMB… Place was the usual structure and design SHP is known for. Like a diner, their salad though, should upgrade coz it has small variety. We ordered their promo medium pizza + salad bar for $ 29.99 + drinks.
As usual their pizza never fails us.

Wow, this is one of the best. The service and the food and the people working here. I have used this place to dine in and as well as delivery. The beer is good and the salad bar is always clean and full. The people are always happy to serve and the lady behind the counter is always smiling. The people baking is always happy to attend the tables when busy. The lunch hour is always busy and the evenings is good time for family. The locals are always here. This is more like a diner in old movies. Place is perfect for the families and business.

My family and I saw this place on a Sunday night on our way home from Santa Cruz. We were exhausted and all craving pizza. Everywhere we went to was closed so we found straw hat at 930 pm. They close at 10 but even though we were cutting it short and felt super bad but we were starving and what could we do? I mean we had two little seven year old girls with us so we had to eat there. The lady that helped us was super sweet and our food came out within 20 min max. It was like a thin crust. Nice and crisp but best of all fresh out of the oven. Really great service and pizza! Thank you guys for your service!

We got Takeout!!! The pizza here was great! We got the California veggies. It was my first time trying broccoli as a topping so good! We also got garlic twists which were good and zucchini fries something like that lol which was also good! We wanted to get some potatoe wedges but they didnt have none anymore. :(… Oh yeah and we went on a Tuesday and it turned out that it’s Half Off on any pizza! Great deal! The decorations inside are pretty cool lots of different stuff. And they have TVs, sell beer, they also have a salad bar, we didn’t get to try it out because we got there about 15 minutes before closing time. Only if they had one of these in Los Angeles. Real chill spot. Good service. Great for group of friends.

Excellent pizza and a friendly staff. Pizza is always right on time and nice and hot too. Been going into this pizza place since later 90’s since buying out Mountain Mike’s and it’s been phenomenal. Discount Tuesdays is the place to go in for awesome deals.

The place is always clean, the staff is always friendly and the food is pretty darn good. I usually eat here during lunch so I get the $ 7.99 lunch special which comes with salad a soft drink and your choice of a personal two topping pizza or a sandwich. It fills me up every time’

I’m just not sure about this place. First, I didn’t realize this is a chain, but once I found that out it explained a lot to me about why it kind of sucks.
I’ve been here a couple times for their lunch specials and every time I have walked in I’m smacked in the face with an ammonia smell. Awesome, the place is clean. Now try using a less kill-​inducing cleaner. Next is the service. I’m always «helped» by a sour employee who looks like she’d rather run than help one more person. I certainly don’t envy her job, but, well, it is what she’s there to do so being a bit nicer would be cool.
The best part of this place is the salad bar. It is always stocked, clean and has variety. I go crazy there, because it comes with the lunch. The pizza is beyond «meh» and more like «blah», so I would never think of ordering a full pizza here for dinner or parties or anything. But if you have kids I would suppose this would be fun for them. For adults though you might as well order a frozen pizza and heat it up. That’s about what you get here.
There are certainly better pizza joints in town for lunch. Especially lately when we’ve seen a rise in pizza places opening up. Hopefully StrawHat will get their stuff together or will decide to fade away. Just choose.

Ordered a pizza for delivery. Later, we get a call that the guy is lost and was given the wrong address. He also barely speaks English and neither of us can understand what the other is saying. We give him the right address and figure the problem is solved. We get another call later, he’s still lost and we can still barely communicate. He finally found the house and was polite and our food is pretty much what we expected, so that saved this from being a one star review.

This place suuuuuucks. Seriously straw hat used to be the best delivery pizza place on the coast. I don’t know what has happened. The pizza either tastes like cardboard, has no sauce or tastes like it has been cooked from a leftover pizza from the day before. The owners are not as awesome as they used to be. STINGY. And stay away from the guy who delivers in the van. He will argue with you about everything and take over an hour to deliver. Smoke pot on your own time! Overall it is such a shame to see this place go to s***s. It’s just pizza! Get it right! My kids don’t even eat it anymore. Now that says a lot

The service was friendly, the pizza was made SO quickly, and it came out delicious. We just got plain cheese, but it was definitely delicious. Not too greasy or anything like that. And the place was very clean from what I saw. I’d definitely go back!

I give straw hat a 2.5÷5, but rounding down to a 2, which i usually round up… I live a 30 second drive from straw hat, so go here once & while.
Being italian & growing up with my parents owning 2 pizzerias, the pizza here is not bad… its fairly decent, just not amazing.
But MAN! The owners of this place are very very stingy, and do as much as possible to save pennies, even thought it will probably lose them more than pennies in the long run since it feels almost insulting and will shy people from returning.
We ordered a medium pizza for pickup… they dont like giving plates, or EVEN CHEESE & PEPPERS or anything! When we asked for cheese & peppers the lady just said «ITS IN THE BOX» … I was like ok… didnt bother to check.
I got home, opened the box… and ONE small cheese packet & ONE small pepper packet is tucked behind one of the flaps of the box… SERIOUSLY??? for a WHOLE pizza? (SEE PIC)
I know times may be tough and there are bills to pay… but having the face to ask for a few cents for a side of sauce, or knowing one cheese packet isnt enough but giving it to you anyways… will only kill you in the long run… Generosity may cost you a bit more, but bring you more clientele and people will have better things to say.
All & All… the pizza is decent, they have ok deals here sometimes, & i probably would order again, just not frequently…

Getting your pizza to go? Thee is an extra «to go» charge.
Need plates to go? Nope you can’t have them.
Need cheese and pepper packages? You get one of each for a large pizza.
And the pizza is not that great. The only great thing about this place is ½ price Tuesdays.
Avoid this place. Pickup some papa johns on the way into town or get round table across the way.

Their pizza tastes somewhat like frozen pizza left in the oven for a little too long. Sorry! But it’s true. The bottom of the pizza is why too tough. They charge way too much for this. Tuesdays are a great deal days, half off deals. Don’t think I’ll be coming back unfortunately. The staff were nice, but I’m coming here for the food not the people.

Stayed at a hotel in HMB last night and the husband and kids were very hungry. Going through the guide that the hotel provided the only place that said the delivered was Straw Hat. We were shocked and presently surprised that the menu was large. There were a lot of options.
The staff were friendly and told us that our order would arrive is 30 minutes. To our surprise, 15 minutes later there was a knock on our hotel door. The food was hot. The pizza was correct, extra pepperoni and very light cheese.
Safe to say, next time we are in HMB we will eat at Straw Hat!

I am working here from out of town so me and some coworkes decided to have a pizza delivered to our Hotel. The front desk suggested Straw Hat.
The girl who took the order sounded like she was more in a hurry to leave than take our order. I repeted Diet Coke as a drink order more than twice. And we ordered a large pep/​saus.
The pizza itself had the taste and consistency of its cardboard delivery box and they sent regular coke. I told the delivery guy we ordered diet coke and he showed us a ticket and in broken english says «no, no. it say coke» I then in formed him that the «D» probably meant Diet. And that we needed diet since one of the guys was diabetic and did not want regular coke… the dude turned his back and left. I gave him a $ 5.00 tip… I should have chased him down and took it back. We will never eat again there and we have told everyone in our company to not patronize this place as well.

Bleh. And it was $ 20/​medium size. There needs to be a better Pizza Joint in HMB. This was the only one we found.

Three bad experiences here…
1) we ordered a simple pepperoni pizza once for lunch. Upon my husbands surprise arrival to join us, he went to the counter and asked for a small cup of jalepenos as a side. Not only did they seem put out, but they then proceeded to charge him 50 cents for it. I don’t really know how toppings work, cause I don’t order a whole bunch of toppings but I think it was a tad rude to demand we go rummaging thru our purse for 50 cents.
2) as a teacher for the school district, I was rewarding a group of children for their community service effort with a surprise pizza party. I called this place and asked if they do any deals for the schools since I would be ordering several pizzas. Um, … NOPE.
3) me & a coworker met here for lunch and since afterwards we were headed our separate ways we asked for two to-​go boxes for our one pizza. We were charged 30 cents for the extra to-​go box. Seriously???
I know times are tough and money is tight, but customer service goes a long way. Now, not only have you permanently lost my business but now I Unilocal about it and tell all the children, teachers and families that Straw Hat is not the place to go.

Being a HMB resident, not a lot of places deliver in this town, so when you are at home and you don’t feel like cooking and you don’t want to go out, your options are limited, so Pizza it is!
Straw Hat has always been our go to delivery place when we are in need. Well it’s our only go to pizza place in HMB. But now that I think of it, we have never actually been inside the actual Straw Hat pizza place in HMB, we have always ordered delivery. So this Unilocal review would be for delivery only, lol.
Depending on our mood and hunger level, we always order pizza, bread sticks, and maybe some hot wings. Either way, everything makes great left overs especially when you reheat them in the toaster oven.
Our food has always come just the way we have ordered it, hot, and in the time they told us. We have never had any issues giving our order over the phone and the delivery guy has always been friendly even when my little dog always tackles (I mean greets) him at the door. We never hesitant when ordering pizza and look forward to the treat when we are breaking away from our diet!
