Coastside Eye Care Optometry

I always have a good experience at Coastside Eye Care. Dr. Lam is easy to talk to, and provides a thorough eye exam.

I’ve been going to Coastside Eye Care Optometry for about 20 years, and I’m very happy with the service I receive. The doctors and the staff are wonderful. The service is very prompt; I don’t recall ever having to sit in the waiting room for more than a few minutes. The staff make it very easy to navigate the insurance issues; in fact, I don’t have to deal with the insurance company at all. Emma and the doctors know exactly what is covered, and are helpful with recommendations about how to optimize my coverage. Dr. Lam has been my doctor for years. She is very pleasant and low-​key. I feel confident that she is taking excellent care of me and my eyes!

I have always had the best of care at Coastside Optometry. Dr. Lam actually discovered two things about my eyes that I never knew before, so I am more than satisfied with my care.

I’ve been going to Dr. Gould for years. She is very sweet and patient. She always make certain you are comfortable during the exam.

I find eye exams to be more unpleasant than dental exams, but the people at Coastside Eye Care make things as stress-​free as possible. I tend to freak out whenever the various instruments get close to my eyeballs, but the staff here were very patient with me.
There are a few doctors in this office, but I have only been seen by Dr. Lam thus far. She is terrific. There is a wide selection of prescription frames, so if you need them, you’re sure to find something to suit your style. You can also buy fancy sunglasses here, too.
Me, I’m at that age where I need reading glasses. There were so many styles to choose from, I must have spent over 20 minutes checking out the options. Again, lots of patience from the office staff. Thanks for not rushing me!

I’ve been going to Dr. Bette Gould since I was 6 years old and I’m currently 29. I trust her completely and I know she only speaks the truth. I’ve been to other places and they give me some bogus lies about my vision. Dr. Gould is very attentive and thorough. Her front desk is amazing. Emma her front desk is the best. Always returns my calls in a timely manner. I’d highly recommend this place a million percent. You want honesty go here.

I would not go back to Dr. Gould’s practice; my family did not have a great experience here. Dr. Gould was fine but her prices are crazy and we’ve never paid so much for appointments or our glasses WITH insurance. I actually called up after everything to make sure her staff had submitted our bill to insurance because it was so high. They did. they just charge a lot, which is why we will go over the hill next time. I did not like how many times we were asked to come in for trivial things or working with Michael, the optician. He seemed kind of sleazy and could not remember who I was no matter how many times we talked. I brought in frames from elsewhere but needed lenses and he kept telling me the two kinds I could choose from were very different in price and what they did. I asked if I could see the lenses (I used to work for an optician and he always would show people in person) but Michael said no one does that. I felt like I was tricked into something I may not have needed. The wait times here were long, even as the first patient of the day. One time I was just waiting for Dr. Gould to come in to work… so that was why my appointment started so late. And like I said, this practice kept asking us to come in again and again. I almost had to come in an extra time because my glasses were finished but Michael didn’t remember me even though we had talked a day or two before.
I wasn’t going to say anything about this place even though the reviews seemed VERY inflated. However, I decided to write a review when Coastside Eyecare scheduled an appointment for my husband without even asking us! Yes it’s almost been a year but you can’t just decide your customers are coming back to you. they may have been really unhappy with your services and it’s rude to schedule an appointment for them. We never planned on coming back here and now we are angry too! My husband is getting calls about how he has to cancel his appointment if he doesn’t want it. That’s ridiculous and we are not calling. he’s not going. We are going over the hill from now on. You should do the same. it’s a total rip off for Coastsiders.

Yes, you can find great eye doctors in Half Moon Bay! The doctor was very knowledgeable and thorough with exam and explanations. Selection of frames was larger than I’d expected in a small office, with some nice higher-​quality brands and well-​priced options too. Would definitely recommend!

Eye exam was fine. Dr. Gould is competent and nice. However:
Optician is a used car salesman type. He was trying to force me to buy more expensive lenses than I needed. He tried talking me into paying for additional coating (which was unnecessary), more expensive lens material (again, not necessary), and he was telling me that the doctor had prescribed them. Hs approach was dishonest and deceiving and disappointing. When I passed on the «extras», he changed the frame price on me; in fact he doubled it, saying that it was on sale, and my insurance (VSP) would not cover it since it was on sale. He told me my only option was to pay full price, out of pocket for the frame.
I have lived only a few blocks away for many years, so I was making it a point of purchasing my glasses from this location, as a local businesses. The optician went out of his way to make sure that I would never visit this office (ever) again. That means they lost my business and my family (four people) by being dishonest and greedy.

Have been going here for years. Staff and doctors have always been very helpful. I have never been left waiting in the waiting room. Always prompt. I recommend wholeheartedly.

I strongly recommend Coastside Eye Care! The doctors and staff there are superb. They have the most up to date equipment, take time to explain what they are doing and to get just the right fit for my contact lenses, and are always pleasant. I’ve been going there for over five years and couldn’t be happier.

I have always found the staff and doctors to be extremely efficient, friendly and helpful. I’ve been seeing Dr. Bette Gould for the past few years, she is very thorough and takes the time to answer any questions you may have.
Overall continues to be a very positive experience.

My cousin had scheduled an appointment for me here, since I just recntly moved back to Half Moon Bay from the Hayward area and although loved my old optometrist in Hayward was not willing to cross the bridge and pay toll.
Optometrist and staff were really helpful and extremely friendly. My only complaints was that they had very little designer glasses that I liked and were a bit overpriced compared to what my old optometrist in Hayward would charge. I also though that parking was a bit tough, since this place located right off of hwy 92 and next to a fish market, parking was very difficult especially if only parking is near the huge semi truck that is parked near this place for decoration? .
Other than that I liked the place and the staff and recommend you go here. Although, I still rather just purchase my frames at Hayward at a more cheaper price
